    This video is right on time. I’m looking to enter the paralegal field without experience or formal education. I was researching billing for paralegals today and i wasn’t finding much. Thank you.

      We're in the same boat. However, I'm a sixty-year-old man with an associate's degree. Would Misty recommend any particular totally online Paralegal certificate programs which are inexpensive yet reputable, and can be completed within six months or less?

    Thank you, Misty for all of your videos, including this very important one regarding billing for our time. My expertise is with state (Texas) and federal habeas corpus and other specialized litigation support services (I own Legal Support Specialists). However, I have been recruited as an expert paralegal for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas in a major death penalty case for an incident that caused the Bureau of Prisons to lock down all federal prison units. I typically bill on a project basis, but will now use the task -based management system for this case. The Court coordinator has instructed me not to bill less than 1.0 (hour) for any given task, which is a good thing. In closing, let me say that I appreciate your videos and will watch each and every one that I can click on. This is an extremely complex, high-profile case and I can hardly wait to get started!

    Have you ever heard of a paralegal tracking time for the attorney too?

    • @ArrowConsultants_MistyMurray
      @ArrowConsultants_MistyMurray  3 года назад

      Yes I have. It sucks and is almost impossible to do, but I have heard of Paralegals keeping time for attorneys. I have done it on occasion, but rarely. Thanks for watching and commenting with the positive feedback. I appreciate you!

    I remember when an attorney asked me to fill in all the L & A Codes to his descriptions/narratives. Could you imagine? These codes require analytical thinking from an attorney, not a legal administrative assistant.

    thank you for sharing, I feel more confident about the material im reading from the text books and assignments im doing in my certificate program.
    Do you have courses about time matters and other Pim software ?

    • @ArrowConsultants_MistyMurray
      @ArrowConsultants_MistyMurray  9 месяцев назад

      Thank you for reaching out and I'm glad to hear the video boosted your confidence! Currently, I don't offer courses on specific timekeeping and billing software like Time Matters or other PIM software. You're right that to teach in-depth about such software often requires specific certifications or affiliations with the software company. However, I'd recommend checking out platforms like Udemy, Skillshare, and even RUclips itself. Many software companies now have dedicated channels or offer tutorials that are quite comprehensive. Best of luck with your studies and always feel free to reach out with any questions! Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate you!

    Is it ok to include the client's name when I bill my hours? For example: Attended meeting with J. Doe and supervising attorney.

    I have a question if you working in a plaintiff firm under contingency, but they your billing rate hours is 170hr what is supposed to be your salary. Can they paid you at their discretion even though they bill for you at a high rate?

  • @lory2223

    What is the average rate for 5+ years legal assistant paralegal and state please thank you

  • @eloisepage8769

    As an Legal -Ebilling Coordinator there's nothing worse then reviewing prebills with two or three word entries. Most attorneys just don't get it. Your entries are how you get paid. Construct them like you want to be paid for them

    So when a Paralegal says she/he makes 65k a year. Is this a base pay + billing fee? Or 65k is the whole salary?

    • @ArrowConsultants_MistyMurray
      @ArrowConsultants_MistyMurray  Год назад +2

      That is a salary - the entire salary. I don't know of any Paralegal who gets paid their billable hour rate, or even a portion of it, in addition to their salary. You get paid $65k a year, but if you're billable hour rate is $200 per hour and you're required to bill 1,700 hours per year, then you're firm has collected $340k per year, which is $275k more than they pay you for your salary. Yikes, right?!?! Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate you!

      @Arrow Consultants | Misty Murray and the paralegal gets no % of it?

    • @ArrowConsultants_MistyMurray
      @ArrowConsultants_MistyMurray  Год назад +2

      @@michellestreeter4368 that's right. The Paralegal doesn't receive any of it. However, there may be a bonus structure in place when the quota is met. But it still will not come close to what the firm is making off your billable hour rate.
