Here's your #1 tip: If the Attorney asks "Out of all of these applicants, why should I hire YOU?" The ONLY answer to that question is, "Because I will make you more money!" Then go on to explain how all of your experience, knowledge, and education will give the Attorney the ability to take on more cases and ultimately make more money.

I’ve bombed 3 legal secretary interviews in mid-size/ big law firms in a row. My imposter syndrome is through the roof. The feedback has been the same. I’m unable to provide concrete examples of my previous work experience- (10 years) so I’m rehearsing. Thank you for the content!

@@jdashlovela Yes, I had a recent interview that I apparently impressed the interviewer. She asked "What one word would you use to describe your ideal approach to this job/life" (I'm paraphrasing). We recently had a retreat at my current job where we were assigned to come up with that, so I had an explanation ready. Apparently this is rare but also a good thing, as other applicants would hem and haw about it. Fun coincidence.

I am just finishing paralegal school, and I had an interview that I BOMBED last week. I have prior firm experience as a Legal Records Clerk and have done well in school, but for some reason (maybe the four faces staring back at me on Zoom or the neighbors making noise or the wind blowing south by southwest) I jammed up; crash and burn Kamikaze style. If only the word UM was a form of universal legalese. SMH!!! So, now I am about to schedule another interview ergo I watched this vid for help. Misty is awesome. She is like a little ray of sunshine and had great tips! Her energy and the content she covered actually restored my self-confidence, and I look forward to watching more of her videos.

Thank you! Not all of these were new to me but these are the notes I took -
Say name when meeting, and see if there is a natural chance to do it up to 2 times. (I worry about coming off as disingenuous if I'm ready to pounce on any chance to do it, especially if there are multiple people interviewing me as a group)
Look up the interviewer first. (I already do this before the interview process starts, BUT I have a third interview tomorrow and I haven't done the deep dive with the higher-up that I'll be meeting.)
Ask: What do you love about working here?
Don't look at your phone even in the waiting room. I don't think that would be a red flag to me but it doesn't hurt to be careful as an interviewee.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the thank you card. When I asked about what to bring to the interview, the person I spoke to said that a thank you card is customary to send (physically or via email), and that some people bring theirs TO the interview to leave behind them. I think that's odd, because to me, the thank you letter functions beyond politenes, being as a way to touch base and confirm that both parties are interested even after a few days has past.

Almost all hiring processes include interviews as a crucial step since they allow hiring managers to discover more about the candidates they are considering. Additionally, it gives applicants a chance to highlight their finest assets and explain why they might be the most qualified for the available post.

I don't understand you examples: you said not to regurgitate the employers' websites, and then you went on to give two examples of the woman saying she wanted to represent dead people, and didn't know what interrogatories were... how is that regurgitating anything except for her own incorrect info, and not knowing how to communicate?
You then said not to badmouth past employers, and went on to give an example of how a couple attorneys didn't get hired, because you knew who they were...... how is that tied to badmouthing? Unless they badmouthed YOU, and you just left that part of the story out.... otherwise - it's unrelated, and very confusing!!

I just finished my undergrad and I am taking a year before law school to work. I have been applying to firms that have legal assistant and receptionist type openings. I do not have any credentials or anything yet but I think I have a pretty basic legal vocabulary (mostly from mock trial). I was just asked to come in for a test at a local personal injury firm. I have no clue what to expect or how to prepare for this test. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Do you find that interviewers ask question that are based on the paralegal field, or is it more common question like “tell me about yourself”
I was told, body language can make you come off as confident and relaxed, which is good, but on the inside it would seem hard if you don’t have answered rehearsed. Like if they catch me off guard, I might say something stupid or stutter because I’m nervous.
If you have a video that you made about interview questions commonly asked for this position, could you please link it?

    • @ArrowConsultants_MistyMurray
      @ArrowConsultants_MistyMurray  4 года назад +2

No two interviews are alike. Some attorneys care more about your experience and some care more about your ability to adapt to the office and other staff members. Overall, they want to make sure you're a good fit - professionally and personally. You can almost count on questions being asked that throw you off. Sometimes, that's the point. A client on the phone with you could do the same thing and they want to make sure you can get your way through it. Good luck! Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate you.

Hi in another video you mentioned you started your career with limited previous knowledge with regards to law but you had great skills such as being computer literate etc that you used to your advantage. However when interviewing somebody else you mentioned how the lady in question was regurgitating the website (not being authentic). What if she had no previous knowledge (education) but had the skillsets and drive required to be great at the job?
Genuine question by the way. Pure curiosity by no means am I trying to be rude.
