      If you let them know you have a learning disability or some kind of disability some companies will give you easier tasks. I know someone who is blind who gets paid to fold boxes at the pizza place they work at. There is someone with autisim at this same pizza place who doesn't answer the phone he just delivers pizza because that's what he wanted to do and applied to do. Some places are really good about modifying the work for people with disability or learning disability. A disability could be anxiety as well. Not sure if some companies need proof then just word of mouth.

    I’m 33 and have 3 children and currently unemployed. I’m tired of applying and then getting panic attacks once I have to start the job. I’m extremely socially awkward and have a hard time working because I have social phobia. Sometimes im shaking so much it’s visible. That makes it hard especially with living in New Orleans where the work environments are so toxic and aggressive. I feel bullied any job I had since I was 18. I pray everyday that a miracle happens for me and my finances so my children can not have to ever want for anything. I have so much potential. I know I do but once I put it to action my mind and body takes over my work performance.

    I'm almost 22, never had a job or tried to get a job because I felt obligated to help take care of grandmother because her and my grandpa took care of me, and instead of helping her, I found myself becoming a burden, I was always a shy and chubby kid, but now I'm pushing the 330+ pound mark, which has only put more physical and emotional stress on me to the point that I am a total agoraphobic shut-in.
    We are planning to move next month, in the middle of February (a little before my birthday that month) and we're moving to a place that has at least more opportunities than what we have here which isn't much honestly.
    Thank you for the video and helping me think of what I should do, you're a kind person for even making a video for this targeted group of people who don't even know where to start. Thank you, so, so much.
    knowing that other people with severe anxiety disorder honestly kind of helps even though I don't wish this upon anyone.
    I want to work, make friends, lose weight and be able to buy myself a gaming PC and make RUclips videos while still going to work and the gym.
    To my fellow friends, we can do it, even if it’s not over night, we can overcome these difficult challenges and grow as people together.

    I’ve found the best way to cope with anxiety is not to avoid but to gradually work on it as you’ve said at the beginning, I started with a tray line job or warehouse one and slowly agreeing to being trained in other positions/ skills helped me so much because I was little by little introduced to new people/skills/ challenges that I could overcome at my own pace or request extra help or training if needed

      Warehouse job didn’t help me it made things worst and the main problem being the type of ppl I had to deal with and I had to deal with many annoying workers for many hours it put me into depression and anxiety. I would sometimes cry after work the anxiety can always come back its why I prefer a work environment where there is very little or no one around me cause sometimes dealing with many workers for many hours causes problems.

      When your anxiety gets so bad you're afraid to even leave the house, this is called agoraphobia. I do discuss some possible jobs for agoraphobes in this video and hope you find those helpful. Ultimately, I'd recommend trying to take small steps outside of your comfort zone whenever possible. Can you get leave your house at all - even to just walk around the yard for a minute each day? Try and find the smallest steps you can take without totally panicking and take them, even if they're a bit uncomfortable at first.

      No problem! Sometimes it helps to remember that a panic attack can happen anywhere. If we start avoiding work, it's only a matter of time before our panic attacks start occurring somewhere else instead; like at home. By forcing ourselves into situations that may be a bit uncomfortable, we're better able to fight our panic attacks head-on and expand our comfort zone. Keep pushing, you've got this!

    Definitely second the trucking thing. I'm an OTR truck driver now for over two years and I love that nobody bothers me, no office drama or overbearing boss. I listen to music or books and get to see the country. And driving a big rig is just the greatest feeling. However, as a team driver we are constantly rolling, only home every few weeks, so I'm getting tired and I miss being home and having a "boring" normal life.
    I love learning and I feel my brain isn't being challenged anymore while trucking, so I'm thinking of leaving and getting into a different career. I'm thinking of switching careers and getting into either programming or data science (I have a PhD in a different field), however no matter what comes next I'm already threading interviews, coworkers and having a boss. The fact that I also stutter doesn't exactly help either. I do like the freedom that trucking provides while having a constant paycheck, benefits etc.

    • @patriciamadigan5366
      @patriciamadigan5366 Год назад

      Also: I did real estate prior to trucking and would not recommend it. Handling clients, lenders, title people and other agents is very stress anxiety. When issues arise (which happens all the time) it's super stressful, you have to be available all the time. When I wasn't showing homes, I was on the phone all day long and never really had time off. Even worked on Christmas because that's when buyers suddenly decide to put in an offer etc. Nope.

I was supposed to start a job back in the school system as a tutor but at the last minute couldn’t make myself go. It was going to be good money with pretty good benefits but I just couldn’t face those insecurities and fears. I feel horrible for letting yet another opportunity pass me by but I also feel like I was going to be miserable everyday. The original job I applied for was in another city with elementary aged children however the company was so dishonest with their job posting and available positions and offered me a job in my job in my old school system with middle schoolers. I just couldn’t. It takes a different level of courage to tackle middle schoolers for me. But I have to live with the resources that I lost but really could have use. At some point this downward spiral has to stop and I have to be able to get a grip on doing life again outside of my home.😢

      Haha, well that's the tricky thing about anxiety. What's scary for one person might be a breeze for someone else. I spent a few years in the aviation industry and met many pilots with social anxiety, specific phobias, etc. But of course - if you're afraid of flying, small spaces, or heights - probably a terrible choice!

      @@lizanna6390 Not sure if you already do this, but something that helps me is making myself yawn continuously as the plane descends. The descent shouldn't usually be too painful as long as your body is adjusting the air pressure changes. If you're finding it to be SUPER painful, especially in a certain area of your body (like sinuses, ears, etc.) it could be that you're sick/congested and it's exacerbating the issue.

Started as unit clerk. They phased out my position so I had to train to read heart monitors. The work is easy. Dealing with highly aggressive mean cocky power hungry arrogant bossy unkind gossipy coworkers and hostile management who writes us up for missing work no matter how legitimate it is. It's killing my physical n mental health. This job has aged me so much. It's like high school. Very clicky.

    Im sorry. I dont mean to troll here... but these are terrible suggestions. Many come with triggering situations... pilot...emergencies, unruly passengers, stress. EMT...are you kidding? Blood, death, emergencies. Running a business? Bad employees, difficult clients, confrontations. And anxiety is NOTHING like obesity. Dude... find another topic to advise on. These suggestions are unrealistic.

    • @tylerjellis
      @tylerjellis  Год назад +2

      So you think almost 1/3 of the population (31.1% of US adults experience an anxiety disorder at some point in their lives) should find jobs that NEVER challenge them to step outside their comfort zone? What suggestions did you expect to see when you clicked on this video? Because it would be incredibly demeaning for me to suggest that everyone with anxiety stay indoors and avoid all forms of stress.
      That's called avoidance, and it's the #1 thing you can do to worsen your anxiety and learn new triggers over time. It is GOOD to do things that challenge our anxiety; this is the main premise behind gradual exposure therapy.
      Plus, you're incorrectly assuming that everyone experiences anxiety in the same way. Why should someone with social anxiety disorder not be able to fly a plane? Why should someone who suffers from panic disorder not be able to run a business? It's not like I suggested someone with a fear of public speaking become a stand-up comedian 😂
      In fact, I've personally done the (or similar) jobs you mentioned. I've flown for an airline, worked as a firefighter, and started several businesses. Were some days stressful? Yes. But I loved each of those jobs and was damn good at them.
      Respectfully, the mindset you're coming at me with is exactly how people remain anxious their whole lives and never see symptoms improve.

      That certainly can be a symptom of anxiety for many people. Whether you wind up getting the job or not, you should be proud of yourself for stepping outside of your comfort zone. The more interviews you go on, the better you'll get at them, and the less anxious you'll feel during them. Also, I bet you did better than you think you did. For social anxiety being a vet tech can definitely work. You mainly interact with your team and only one client at a time, every once in a while with a difficult client. but it’s not for serious anxiety disorders like a panic disorder. I’m a vet tech and it’s incredibly high stress, fast paced, brutal, and burnout is very common as well as mental health issues (unfortunately a high suicide rate). And contrary to popular belief, pay is not very good for the skills you actually have (running anesthesia, labs, radiographs, dentals etc in a single day). I have to leave the field because I do not earn enough for the city I live in 😔 it’s not playing with puppies and kittens all day lol. The days you do get that are like a diamond in the rough before the storm rolls back in.

    I had moderate social anxiety for all of middle school and high school (I'm 23 now).
    The stress of school and dyslexia got so bad that I ended up dropping out my 10th grade year. Due to circumstances that were out of my control, I basically had to wait 1 year until I could take my GED. Ended up waiting 2 years because of procrastination. Over those two years I didn't leave my house because of shame, guilt, social anxiety, etc. So, my social anxiety eventually progressed into agoraphobia. I just got my first job in 2022, I've been working for a year and a half so I'm at least getting out of the house some. But man, I really feel like staying inside and not talking to anyone really fucked up my social skills. I'm nervous going into new places, struggle with eye contact, afraid of new situations. I'm now looking to get a job in IT, but the idea of getting phone calls all day really stresses me out. But I know I have to take steps forward, even if they're baby steps.

      Do you guys ever feel like maybe jobs like IT are actually not a good idea for people with anxiety? It's very unhealthy to be isolated and makes depression and anxiety worse. Learning how to deal with an overcome social anxiety and anxiety is the only way.

    Like, I want to get a job... I really do.. But I'm so afraid to even interact with people and do interviews and stuff like that. It's like if I don't get a job then how am I going to live. I can't always depend on someone for help... I wish there was a job that could be like Work at home, but NO CUSTOMER SERVICE, and zoom... I mean I might be fine with phone talk, I'd just get nervous and probably get fidgety. It's hard... It's really hard.

      Technically there are some jobs like this. Learning freelance skills like writing, graphic design, SEO, social media management, etc. can all be done by selling your skillset rather than applying for a job or reporting to a boss. You can choose to communicate with clients however you'd like. Sites like Fiver and Etsy are some places you might start.
      However, it's probably best you learn to challenge yourself and face those fears. Think about it.. what's scarier: a 10-minute job interview... or the possibility that you won't live up to your full potential and live the life you deserve? Especially with a job interview, it's only ONE day you need to get through. Even I usually use a stress-relief supplement to get me through a stressful day like that since it's such an occasional thing. It's also worth mentioning that any of these things get WAY EASIER after you do them a few times. I forced myself to take a sales job when I was younger and it helped me immensely with forcing through workplace social anxiety.

      Every job imaginable will come with some stress. I don't think stress-avoidance should be the goal when overcoming anxiety. A job that occasionally offers unique challenges can be a good thing for someone who needs to step outside their comfort zone. Why not do that while seeing the world? :)

    It sucks when you have learning disabilities, socials and many other disabilities that prevent you from achieving , but hey that is reality, not everyone makes it truly. Even if you say "never give up" that doesn't go for those who keep moving forward and trying harder than everyone else who has a stable brain to learn and live a normal life. Wish they had more opportunities for all kinds of mental and physical disabilities.

    If you have anxiety of any kind, I would not recommend engineering because it requires a lot of project management, which can be very angst-ridden and will only exacerbate your anxiety symptoms. You have to multi-task a ton, deal with unpredictable people, lead without being directly in charge, influence/persuade customers, coworkers, mgmt, etc. It's just a huge pain in the ass for somebody that has anxiety, I know from personal experience.
    If you like applied science/math/tech, but want to avoid too much project mgmt, then consider roles like: skilled technician, tradesperson, accountant, drafting, GIS, software programmer, IT, statistician, logistics, actuary, lab worker, nurse, radiology tech, etc. You can still make really good money, but without all of the anxiety involved in engineering project management.

    With all of these, you need to have growth mindset. AKA - even with social anxiety, if you aren't willing/able to learn new skills, it'll be so hard to find employment. My anxiety lies to me a lot and my panic attacks are awful now. I have no growth mindset.

    • @tylerjellis
      @tylerjellis  3 года назад +2

      I get where you're coming from, it can definitely feel like a catch-22. The irony is, anxiety and panic attacks themselves can also be overcome by a growth mindset. I know it can be difficult to step outside of your comfort zone, but every time you do so that growth will chip away at your anxiety.

Im 15, with bad undiagnosed social anxiety, even though I’ve been begging my mom to make me an appointment for years. I wanted to get a job when I was 14 but was terrified and was looking for a workaround like a library job, but none were hiring young. I really want the experience and want to help my family out.

      I promise you, the anxiety doesn't fade, but you can become numb to dealing with people, which is better than an anxiety attack for me lol.
      I recommend working at a place with different visiting clientele like a hotel, so you don't feel pressure of returning customers (or returning bad customers). I work housekeeping at a resort and the most conversation I get into is "can I have extra -blank?" "Where's the nearest store/restaurant?" & "where is the 'insert resort facility' located?"
      And all else fails, I feign "I'm new, sorry, let me direct you to someone who knows more/call front desk." They're not returning customers, they don't know you don't have the answer 👀 just a little suggestion.

    I have many mental health issues , adjustment disorder syndrome, somatic disorder syndrome and generalized anxiety disorder and recently Major depressive disorder. I'm on Workers compensation and also receiving disability. So jobs that require responsibility and are time sensitive and are detailed oriented are struggles for me. I have multiple triggers. I know a schedule isn't appropriate for me as there are times I need to rest . And when I get overwhelmed I start feeling pain. I do like video editing and photography but learning is a struggle and I started a youtube channel but struggling with finding my niche.

    • @tylerjellis
      @tylerjellis  2 года назад

      Sorry to hear you're struggling with those things. Video editing and photography sound like great options. Definitely learning curves to overcome, but that seems to be the case with everything. Finding a niche on RUclips can be a tough decision, but I'd just start with whatever kinds of videos you enjoy creating and see what sticks... Consistency has been key in my (limited) experience; if you post weekly you will start to grow an audience. You can always change your channel's niche in the future and pivot a bit if you wish.
