Hi Austin. Beginner rower here (started 1 month ago, 2k-7:57). Been watching many of your videos about the technique, they're all really helpful! However, im still really struggling to get the hang of it. Especially on the return. But i'm wondering, all power is delivered on the stroke right? Why is it important that you go arms-core-legs on the return? Any chance you could make a specific video about that? Would love to see a comparison of the 2k times with a "sloppy return" vs a techically "right-order-return"! Cheers pal, keep on rocking! 💪
Love your videos! This one was very timely with the 2000m benchmark row today. I did the reverse pick drill during warm-up and it really improved my awareness of my order. I also made more of an effort to sit on my junk and with those subtle adjustments, I managed to shave 7 seconds off my previous PR and hit a new one of 7:03! Gunning for a sub-7 next! Keep the great advice and pointers coming!
Purchased Aviron several weeks ago and consider myself a true beginner. Love this content. Helps me get the most out of my purchase. These things are subtle but your explanations are very clear. Love the new instructor content on Aviron as well. I am disabled and have back, knee as well as foot issues. Wasn’t sure I would be able to row at all. I am pleased to report that I find it not only a relatively pain free exercise for me but also it allows me to stretch and strengthen in a way that I couldn’t before. I can 💯 percent say that watching your content helps me to have a clear idea about what proper form is and is not and this in turn has helped me to row pain free. Can’t thank you enough.
It really is crazy how keeping your hands higher at the catch feels so much more exhausting while rowing. Prolly something to get used to that will make a lot of difference over some time. -Chris
Thank you Austin for addressing these mistakes in a way that is easy to understand. Would you ever come out to New England to do a rowing clinic at my OTF??
Austin, I'm glad you did this video as I'm making some minor mistakes!! Austin I hope you can take a look at the Rowertrain and explain their monitor. Covering distance with their monitor is very slow going.
Love the advice! I’ve also noticed, for myself, that rowing with my feet out of the stretchers, during warmup and cool down, really discourages opening up early. Also, rowing eyes closed, for 5 strokes every few minutes, keeps the handle from dropping at the catch. Have you ever tried a Biorower?
@@trainingtall not doin bad for a 60yr owl duffer with a damaged heart lol, 4k 5k 6k mon/wed/fri - training for 10k once a week and then half marathon at some point next yr.
Veeeery useful. I'm aware my "arse back" is sloppy..... 😂
Thanks for this. Only a couple of weeks into rowing (me and my teenagers) and these three tips are brilliant for us.
he’s hot
I get worse force curves when I follow the advice for first mistake on c2.
This is probably the best and most knowledgeable rowing channel.
This was explained so perfectly. I'm pretty sure I'm making the last two errors. I'd bet on it. I'll have to check it out in a bit. Thank you!
a taller, fitter version of matt dillon’s pat healy.
I like rowing, but watched this for the mustache
Do you intentionally sound like comedian Daniel Tosh?
This guy always looks stoned..
A better looking Justin Bieber.
Always so helpful. Thank you !
OMG, all the three mistakes are what I am doing!
My problem is that the foot straps loosen after 10 minutes. Any ideas?
Please do a 5k in under 25 minutes video to prep Soldiers for the new ACFT.

Just realized the hand dip last week. This confirms my suspicion and results. I was losing about 5-10s on my split just from that.
Awesome thanks 🙏🏻
I am holding my hands higher now, but I find the handle hitting around mid chest, is this okay? Or am I doing it wrong
Great videos as always. My rowing form is almost nearly perfect thanks to you. We miss you on Twitch! Hopefully you come back next year.
