I Love Lemmy. I met him once when I was sixteen years old at the Top Rank in Brighton where they were playing. As there was a bar there, the management wouldn't let us in. We were all only 16 at the time. It was 1979 and the first album had just come out, Motorhead/Motorhead. The advert for the tickets in 'Sounds' didnt mention the bar, so they refused us at the door. Man, we were Pissed off and shouting at them to either give us our money back or let us all IN !!! Out comes Lemmy and starts argueing with the manager..."Let these Kids in -or give em their fucking money back, or We're Not Fucking PLAYING!" I remember all the time he was argueing, he had a pack of Durex in one hand. Later he organised one of the roadies to let us in anyway through one of the side doors, so we got to see them for free anyway. They were really fucking loud and really excellent. It is a memory that I'll always treasure. Thanks to you LEMMY !!!
+spitfire4sergi A former colleague of mine had a throat infection, and he sounded exactly like Lemmy. Too bad it was before smartphones, or we would have flooded RUclips with it.
We still have great rock n rollers.. maybe not rampant drug fiends. But we have Jack White who is fucking amazing. Might not be as hard as Lemmy but just as talented
No Ego ,,No hiding out From public or Fans ,,EVER , True Gent ,,Thanks For the Drink and Most of All the Joy you Brought To me As a Kid And As an Adult ,,We The Fans Will NEVER forget you Lemmy
I shared a bottle of blue label vodka with Lemmy in Dublin 1984, saw him in the back of the tour bus with Robbo, walked on the bus and Lemmy told the driver to let me on, had a chat and shared the vodka and orange...great memory..still a massive fan!
Lem was a cut above the rest. Met him at the age of 18 at the rainbow. He bought me a shot that night and the bartender didn't even try to argue with him about someone under age receiving alcohol. I'll never ever ever forget what an amazing dude he was
Forget the band and the music for a second... Lemmy should ALSO be revered, respected, and fucking praised for his insight, wit, wisdom, and intelligence... He's far more knowledgeable and wise than many would believe.
Lemmy's bio and his documentary are some of the best things I've ever read and watched. We're lucky that he's still alive. Maybe there's something inside those warts...
+onepinkrose x You said it, man. He's a working man's poet. His book is amazing, and I continue to be stupefied by his LOGIC and intelligence in his writing, very very underrated.
+onepinkrose x There were many a snotty interviewer over the years who tried to either outwit him or get a snide remark in or something like that. Very, very few, if any, did ever suceeded. Lemmy allways called their bluff, either by biting straight back with a crack one-liner, or by simply outsmarting them in his answers. A true character, Lemmy was. There'll never be another one like him.
+onepinkrose x He would read books to kill time traveling on tour. All you hear most bands do on tour is watch porn and play video games. Lemmy would read lots of history books....he knew a lot about WWII.
We met Phil at a record shop before a show. He was quite taken by our roadie Mongo, he loved the name and how it was so fitting. Tony "Mongo" was 6'4" and 275. At the show that night he got thrown out during Iron Fist, then 2 songs later he came popping back in. He said "Philthy was puking in the alley when they threw me out. He looked up and said 'MONGO!"" And they both walked back in. Apparently the drum tech covered the first 5 songs...lol
I met lemmy in 1986 in Manchester he was a lovely bloke I offered him a roll up he said what the fuck is that? Here have a proper ciggie, a real down to earth man who always made time to talk no matter who it's was. Rip.
Shoot, y'all are laughing, but I'm taking notes. I've experienced enough on this Earth to know that what Lemmy is saying has a lot of weight and truth to it.
Lemmy was a great guy. He used to come in for the late showing at the Electric Cinema in Portobello Road in shades with a bottle of booze and a couple of ladies. Sat there all during the film chewing gum. Also used to see and have a chat with him in the pub (forgot the name) on the Portobello Road and I talked to him about a loads of stuff as my Dad was friendly with the guy who did the PA for Jimi Hendrix and Lemmy did some touring with Jimi. He was an all round nice guy and I got pissed off when he disappeared off to the States as he was badly missed in London.
Hi thanks for the story. When was that? I lived in Ladbroke Grove around late 90s, early 2000s. Did Lemmy go there after it was rennovated, late 1990s? I remember that time. Or was this way before then, before it shut down? Also the pub over the road. On the corner. If you meant that one. Elegant building. Its a gin bar called London Spirit currently.
My brother played guitar in an Iron Maiden tribute band at a place called, Jackhammer. They opened up for Motörhead. I had no clue this was thee Lemmy on stage. I had played eddie, the mascot for my brothers band and had been walking around the crowd. I thought, that guy really looks like Lemmy. They're a really good Motörhead tribute band. I kick myself to this day not trying to get his autograph and banging heads upfront.
+Pursian Werewolf He was trying to pay a compliment...in some ppls cultures or lifestyles, being called "gangster" means "badass"! Lemmy wrote the book on sex, drugs and rock'n'roll. Underneath it all he was a very intelligent man.
