1. I love this archetype. The references to the Divine Comedy, the insane ease of summoning and combos, just generally good effects and the wonderfull artwork. Of course, we can't forget about the goldmine of DMC memes that Dante and Vergil are. 2. I need a link to the version of Devils Never Cry at 13:00. It sounds DOPE
23:24 I don’t even know if it was intentional, but Virgil being shoved into the corner there with Dante and Beatrice ignoring him is actually a really funny Divine Comedy meta-joke, since in the actual work Virgil (despite having been Dante-pilgrim’s guide throughout the entire first two volumes) inexplicably vanishes from the narrative a few pages before Beatrice shows up, with not a single word spared to explain what happened after they reached the top of Mount Purgatory.
@@thisgoddamusernamestoodamnlongThat is indeed _presumably_ the case given the themes of the story, but the story never really explains it outright; Dante just sort of wanders off and he never shows up again.
I gotta say I skipped over Burning Abyss when it first came out, but after a few games with a friend of mine who loves this type theme in games I gotta say I have a new appreciation for the Archetype.
To be fair in regards to the pronunciation of "Malebranche" literally no one in the community pronounces half the BA cards "correctly" based on their Divine Comedy references. By this logic, Beatrice should be "bay-a-tree-chay". That is to say, don't sweat it in regards to pronouncing "Malebranche" the way you did in the video :)
A gimmicky (no pun intented) card you can put there, since b.a. have ritual, fusion, synchro and xyz, is Sophia, goddess or rebirth. Yes, she will be summoned once every blue moon, but it's worthwhile to see the shock of the opponent when you summon her. Even if she's milled on the first game, the opponent will also keep his mind to not be all 4 of the aforementioned card categories during your turn, on top of all else he have to do.
Secrets of Eternity was released in January 2015. This set introduced the Infernoids, a series of monsters that can Special Summon themselves to the field by banishing other Infernoids from either the hand or graveyard. Notable cards in set include Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, Qliphort Monolith, Uni-Zombie, Nephe Shaddoll Fusion, and a card that would bolster Satellarknight to combat the Burning Abyss Shaddoll meta, Stellarknight Constellar Diamond. In this series, both Nyhmnim and myself will be opening 24 booster packs or 1 box of a core Yu-Gi-Oh! booster set. We will build a deck and play a best 2 out of 3, and the winner will receive a small prize to upgrade their deck. HOWEVER! Each episode, we will open another box of the next set that was released moving in chronological order, constantly upgrading our decks before dueling each other at the end of each episode. This is the Yu-Gi-Oh! Progression Series.
Personally, I thought it'd be hilarious to use such self-milling cards as Fiend Comedian, Berserker Soul, or Morphing Jar in pretty much any deck filled with cards with effects that trigger or activate in the graveyard, including Burning Abyss, just to see how many effects I could chain together from seeing so many cards getting sent to the graveyard. If I recall, those graveyard effects, plus the effects of the self-milling cards themselves, have helped me pull off a few wins. I also remember using quite a few hand traps, such as Ash Blossom, Ghost Belle, Droll & Lock Bird, and Sauravis, in order to delay and disrupt the opponent's efforts at getting their own setups active, especially when they're going 1st during the duel. Because Burning Abyss had many dark-attribute, and some light-attribute, monsters, and because I was also splashing in a few additional light-attribute monsters, including a Fairy Tail Snow (while it wasn't forbidden), alongside my Burning Abyss deck, I thought that adding in monster cards like a Black Luster Soldier: Envoy of the Beginning and an Orbital Hydralander would've been a good idea.
Okay why did you not mention searching any Maxx C, Ash Blossom, Ghost Ogre, Ghost Belle, Effect Veiler, Contact C, or Dimension Shifter with Sangan? I use this in combination with Phantom Knights.
I really wish Konami would make this deck relevant again. They still have the best aesthetic of any archetype. Good & Evil will forever be one of my favorite card arts.
I know this video now a year old but the cards are all fairly accurate to the Book the lake of the burning abyss for example, the story says that Skarm and What ever his face is basically have a Gluttonous fight and due to their greed are distracted a fall into a pit of larva in the Book
I think we should get a field spell.A couple of pendulum monsters would be cool since they came in that era Maybe a counter trap Maybe a continuous spell or trap or a quick destruction card I'm kind of sad.We didn't get anything else with the link monster release
As a italian, i must admit that i laughed a bit seeing how some comments where confused on how to pronounce “malebranche” 😂😅. Here’s a little help, in our alphabet we don’t have the “K”, so instead we use “ch”+ E or I (this rule doesn’t apply with A, O and U), so try to think you’re saying “Malebranke” to help your pronunciation. I hope it helped 🙂
The artwork inconsistency with this archetype bugs me. All of the little fiends have a very serious almost painting style artwork similar to that of Magic the Gathering and then there's the anime guys. Same goes with spell book it's all anime characters and then there's one hand-painted demon guy that looks like he's from a different card game
To be fair, it makes sense once you remember that the Divine Comedy, which this is based on, was basically Dante's fanfiction. Dante, Vergil and Beatrice feel very out of place in an otherwise pretty epic depiction of Hell, Purgatory and Paradise. So having the artwork reflect that is almost too fitting.

FARFA, Malbranche of the Burning Abyss, one of the most important cards from the memed set _Secrets of Eternity_ which was released in January 2015.

So when did Farfa quit the abyss to be a Yugituber?

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this. It's Dante's theme from Marvel VS. Capcom 3.

I mean these are the english versions of italian words from hundreds of years ago.
When you realize the proper way to summon beatrice on theme is to overlay malacoda and virgil XD

The Outer Entities could also work based on your point.
I would love to see more support for this archetype. I'm having a lot of fun playing Bystials in this deck for rank 6 negate boards.
I almost thought you weren't going to do the DMC reference until the extra deck part came and Devils Never Cry started blaring.
Appreciate the frequent use of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Taled of Symphonia music. ^^
Cute. Archetype is obsessed with three. Explained in 33 minutes. If only you stalled for 15 more seconds.
FINALLY! Been wanting you to cover B.A since I first started watching the channel

“A helluva episode “ I see what you did there
You missed out on the chance of saying “for Farfa’s abyss-mal joke”
ty nova for using at least one dmc song for this video
Fun fact: Cagna, malebranche of the burning abyss is a female dog, Cagna in italian means bitch.
Actually we already have Viewtiful Joe, but no one realized it because it was a crossover with Resident Evil
it's wacky woohoo pizza man
God damn it, I mislabelled Pilgrim Dante as Virgil in his slide. Don't mind my frequent errors.
Remember kids, this deck is NOT a deadweight!
Cannot help but wonder if Farfa was here purely for the gag.
Anyway, might need more ED monsters. Maybe "GOD, Genesis of the Burning Abyss."
33? That a half a beast😊
Awesome DMC soundtrack
Even if the deck isn't as usable nowadays they can't be too mad. Devils never cry after all
Who knows. If pushed enough, Devil May Cry!
This archetype deserves more support
Anyone else want to read the Divine Comedy because of this archetype?
Edit: a year ago, I added The Divine Comedy to my shelf.
I did I had a lot of fun reading it
your right no one turns vergil into a corner but you turn him into dlc
I really wish Konami would make this deck relevant again. They still have the best aesthetic of any archetype. Good & Evil will forever be one of my favorite card arts.
Same with Darklords and Vendreads. Wonderfull aesthetic , but the gameplay leaves things to be desired
with how well BA has come back from the dead over its history i feel like it wouldnt be hard do again if they wanted
Beatrice's nose is unfortunate.
Nova is amazing
Hah. Milling 2.6 cards sounds hilarious
Don't forget that tour guide is a hombre ba monster
T.G explained
I don’t get how its hard to pronounce. Malebranche = mal - branch, mal sounding like “mallet” or il accept “Malloy” and branch like tree branch
I read it that way, but with a French accent.
have you a blackwing video?
Pretty sure that’s a sub goal because of it being a 5D’s archetype used by a main character

Can you do Dark counterpart monsters next? As in like Dark Armed Dragon, The Dark Creator and such?

"Eew, cooties!"
- every Malebranche ever
Pssst: You not only mispronounced Malbranche, you also mispronounced Dante Alighieri. XD
Still an awesome video nonetheless! 🥰👍
My fav deck of all time they need to guve them some nice support for the future but seems like they forgot the divine comedy
Edge imp archetype foreshadowing? 🙏
Future support.Cause it was a missed opportunity why didn't we get a field spell we should another 8 cards of support
