Good to see you reviewing the Perception. I was fortunate enough to hear about them while in the concept/design stage and took possession of my Piao (Blue) as one of the first batch recipients. Looking forward to what they release as their next model. 👍
This is stunning. Still out of my price range but stunning nonetheless. I literally said “wow” out loud half a dozen times during the video. Japanese car manufacturers were dismissed back in the day also… just saying. Thanks for the great review and showing us the watch.
This watch is beautifully designed and executed and, what is not that common, has its very own design language. I like it a lot. It is a work of art and I am sure a lot of time goes into producing each single watch. For me personally, the price tag is a bit high, I would have guessed it to be a bit above the 2000 USD mark. But I don't think it is overpriced.
I can't tell whether I like the way the first link of the bracelet sits or not, despite the fantastic photography, but the seamless fit of the rubber looks fantastic. The caseback is amazing.
Pete, I gotta ask… when manufacturers send you their timepieces, do you give them the option of buying your videography work without the voiceover for their website or other presentations? It really is top shelf…
Thanks for the vote of confidence..😊 I usually just let them use the content as they want..Im pretty fair that way as its a hobby and the more people see content like this, maybe the more people will get interested in horology I see many youngsters these day not wearing a watch and I hope its not a dying breed in the following generations 👍
@PeterKotsa I didnt wear watches often when I was younger. I think it's not until you hit your 20's that you start caring about more "Adult" things and start dressing like an adult. For me, nothing more masculine and adult than a man wearing a nice watch. Like a lady, not a teenage girl, when she wears more adult necklaces and rings
I've handled this watch a few times, and the dial is every bit as beautiful and impressive as suggested. While a better movement is a nice to have, the dealbreaker for me is the bracelet. It's just too ridged and inflexible to fit all wrist sizes and types. In my case, with a smaller wrist than Mr Kotsa, the caseback didn't actually manage to touch my wrist - it floated slightly above it held in place by the stiff bracelet. If they addressed this, it would be a home run!
Very impressive. They give a 5 year, warenty. The site shows that they have retired a few collections as well ( being sold out) Its interesting to compare Chinese Motor Cycle quallity improvements over the last 5 years. Very impressive 😊 Japanese quality at 75% of the price. Thanks for sharing 👍
It’s a beautiful watch. There are no numeric graduations on the watch because it’s a dress watch so the hacking is no big deal you turned the minute hand to one of the markers secondhand gets up to the 12 and you push it in no big deal. I have a few San Martin watches that I am proud to wear the qualities outstanding and I’m paying Chinese prices not like buying a high-end watch paying Swiss prices for hidden Chinese parts
@@sensible202 you wouldn’t believe how many morons couldn’t figure that out how many people can’t even drive a stick shift car I’ve never even been in a stick shift car let alone a watch. It doesn’t hack.

Yep, it is stepping upon Tudor and some other brands, but i think this is going to cater to a completely different audience. Thanks for sharing Andrew, cheers 👍
I like that you review from all over the world. Germany, Japan, Scandinavia, Korea, china, down under, England etc This is good. I like everything except the movement. You’re paying a lot for that dial. Pretty but I can’t spend that much money on a movement I don’t feel confident with
Another amazing video Sir. The way You introduce difrent watches with passion and knowledge passes to us! And that is impressive, at least to me! Thank you!
I absolutely love everything about the design of the watch always have , ever since they first launched. But never got round to buying one, the reason was and still is if the Peacock movement ever needs servicing/repairing, it would need to be sent back to China for this as most watch makers especially in UK won't touch Chinese movements . Which is unfortunate also for me no stop seconds is also a negative for me. Overall great watch design and quality .
This watch really comes to life in this video, great job shooting it. I've seen the pictures and it didn't really do much for me. But it looks amazing here. Every little detail they seemed to have nailed. But then they put in that movement. Sigh. Just source an ETA 2892 or SW300 and call it a day here. I'm assuming they wanted to show off a Chinese movement, but I don't believe it's ready for primetime.
The funny thing is, most swiss watches are made of many Chinese parts, even the well respected and expensive brands. This is allowed by the misleading Swiss Made moniker, the suggests swiss watches are more swiss than they actually are. This watch isnt significant because it is a high quality watch made in China, it is that they are not only admitting it but actually taking pride in it.
They have a previous line of porcelain dials that are IMO even nicer but that collection is sold out and retired. I hope they expand their collections.
It's a nice looking watch, but for that kind of money, I expect an upgraded movement which at the very least, hacks the seconds. I'd much rather have a great movement than a nice box.
I've thought for a while that skilled hand finishing on dials, hands and mech parts is going to be where Chinese labour costs really allows a massive advantage over the Swiss and Japanese high end makers. Convincing the buyers that highly overpriced Chinese watches are as good as much more massively priced Swiss will be the difficult part.
Great measurement method (inner-diameter) for the integrated bracelet. Never seen that used before, and your graphic @4:43 demonstrated it clearly. If Independent watch brands can be subdivided into Microbrands or Niche; Atelier Wen is more of a Niche Chinese manufactured brand. Most prominently the hand-guilloché dial which requires a master-craftsman. Hence the higher price-tag. For my money though, most of this (bar the hand-crafted dial), is available from brands obtaining Quality from China for far less money. Check Möels latest 369 model. Or Kevin Pedral’s creations. Those probably fit more into Microbrand than Niche. But then I’m also content with a machine-lathed guilloche dial like those from Loresum’s upcoming model.
Never knew Atelier Wen, a French company, made their watches entirely in China and to my surprise the level of quality is stunning. Unfortunately, though it is a beautiful watch, it does not suit my taste and the price is out of my price range as Atelier Wen watches tend to be. But it is truly a stunning piece! Thanks for sharing another great watch Peter! Great review as always!
Great video man, keep up the amazing work! Most people will never admit that China is producing some bangers, but I’ve first hand handled some of them and it’s insane what they’re producing for the $!

I wasnt blown away at the start, but the more details you showed the more impressed I was. At the end of the video I find myself genuinely amazed at this watch! It's extremely beautiful! The thin case looks so elegant, and that clasp makes me wish more clasps were even half as nice as this.

Hi peter , great vid as always . The chinese are producing some amazing watches now , and this shows they are prepared to do higher end pieces. I have a san martin and seestern in my collection and they are amazing for little money. The finishing is nearly on par with my tudors , and they also keep good time , with no issues. In some ways they are better proportioned than the watches they are copying . The tudor pro was too thick for a 39mm watch , but the san martin version is a lot thinner , making it better to wear . Obviously the main gripe is that they are just copying designs , which is a shame or a bonus depending on your viewpoint. The thing I like about them most is , you can wear them and not worry about them getting bashed and losing them in the sea !!! They also look great on and it questions your sanity to pay 5k for a swiss watch. I believe in time many people who like automatics may just go for one , in the style they like because they are getting so good now. No worries about an expensive service either ten years down the line , you could just get a new model. I know we have affinity with certain brands , but it might be the case of getting one really nice watch , and several chinese ones to satisfy our cravings . The enjoyment level isn't that far removed from the famous brands , speaking from experience.
@@PeterKotsa yeah sorry pete I've got a lot going on in my personal life , with elderly parents etc, so watches have taken a bit of a back burner for me. I love watches , I always have , but ive hit a point in my life , where family comes first. Ive also reached a point that I wonder if expensive swiss watches are actually that good anymore, especially for what they cost. Even seikos possibly my favourite brand by the Japanese are getting silly now compared to what they were. Its all a bit weird at the moment ,as I'm enjoying a seestern Chinese copy watch , as much as a 5k tudor ? It kinda question your sanity a little. Still love my sla043 , and it still feels special because it is. But as I've said before it wouldn't surprise me one bit , if the chinese become the dominant force in watches. And this is proof that, if the Chinese actually tapped into their past and their culture, they could make some really special designs. And not just in watches either, but in every design they’ve made. Can you imagine what a Chinese car would look like if the manufacturers did things more like this?
For one I think that for some time now there is nothing surprising in chinese watchmaking. I can get AWESOM watch for as little as 100$ when I have to pay 400$ to 500$ for brands like SEIKO now im my country. Insane!! Chinese make great watches, they are now to Swiss and Japanese, what Japanese were to Swiss some time ago.
It’s a beautiful watch but you’re missing a point on just why it’s so “inexpensive “ and why those French owners are manufacturing it in China in the first place … In Soviet gulag camps some of the insanely beautiful things were made with practically bare hands for some extra food or not to get killed so one’s creativity gets as close to perfection as humanly possible. I don’t buy anything that’s manufactured in the modern gulag no matter how it markets itself. Beautiful piece though
Above my pay grade but a nice watch indeed. I always wonder if obscure watches like this will become collectors grail in like 50 years and worth a mint. Maybe after we blow up the world and there are no more watch factories left and humans are trying to rebuild civilization type scenario.
China’s a manufacturing superpower. There’s a stigma for cheap throwaway goods but there are plenty of master craftsmen to be found. It just depends on what you’re looking for and who you know that can help you find them.
In a few very short years from now people will be talking about the Chinese Watch crisis in the same way that we refer to the quartz crisis of the mid 70s through to the 80s.
People need to stop giving so much credit for the packagig of anything. design is one thing. materials is one thing. Cost to make? $10, $20, $50. modern machining + modern materials + cad design + modern movements = modern watches Should not cost so much. watches are becoming more and more just luxury for the sake of luxury.
Only one thing wrong, with the better quality, Chinese watches, like San Martin etc...,often their bracelets are way way too short, and you cannot buy loose links... I have a San Martin Ranger. Great watch! Had to ask a friend for an extra link... San Martin does not sell them... How hard can it be???
They could maintain that height and have hacking if they used the Miyota 9018 movement. Who knows, they might be able to offer it at a lower price if they used that movement. Regardless, it is a beautiful piece. Does this mean you're getting rid of that Dornbluth soon? :))
There are a lot of cute watches out there, lot cuter than even this one but that doesn't mean that you have to buy them regardless of how much effort has gone to it! In the world of giant watchmakers these kind of watches don't get much chance. we would be lucky if we get our hands on our favorite Rolexs, Breitlings, IWCs, Cartiers Panerais and yes even G-shocks.
It’s hard to get past the cheap labor in China thing. It’s a gorgeous watch, but I’d be more ready to pay $5k or even $10k if the story were that two French men were making a watch all in house in France. Something just always feels off when buying high priced items from China. I’m not saying it’s rational, but we’ve been conditioned over so many years.
Why do you need your watch to hack? You're only gaining a couple seconds of accuracy once per adjustment by hacking, very few people need their watch to be that ultra accurate and if they did, then they would just wear a quartz
A beautiful watch, but at this price point a movement without hacking is crazy. I know that the movement it not that important for many watch buyers but this is not just about the quality of the craftmanship of the movement but the lack of a function you get from the even cheapest automatic watches today.
@@nerychristian I guess it isn't that important without clear minute track. But still fashion watches that aren't time telling tool first, are pointless for me.
Non hacking is a deal breaker for me. I'm too anal about setting the time. I would have also liked to see the crown recessed a tiny bit into the case. The watch otherwise looks very nice.
For $3,300us you have Tudor, Longines, Oris, Cartier, Omega, Sinn, Junghans, Nomos, Grand Seiko... the list goes on and on. Its an okay watch (the bracelet is a straight up ripoff of the 222), but its in the most competitive wristwatch price range. Hard pass.
4/5 of the big names source so much from China yet snobs look down on anything not Swiss etc. most of your Swiss snob watches are 1/2 Chinese. Nothing wrong with Chinese watch building. Their design needs originality buy hey their manufacturing is great. There's only a few makers that are vertically integrated.
Just sharing my heart after experiencing the watch for myself on the wrist. For me there was an element of romance in this piece especially with its hand turned guilloche dial and attention to detail..so if it came across as a sales pitch, that was not my intention. At the end of the day for me, the watch did deliver on so many levels..bar one 😊
Best clasp for this kind of bracelet ever. It looks unobtrusive, even pleasant and it's quick adjust function is intuitive.

@@PeterKotsa I'm afraid I'm going to make WatchBuys (USA) a happy company. You leave me no choice! :))
It is beautiful but wouldn’t you say Ming is overall better ?
Nice.
Definately not my style but beautiful nonetheless. Thanks for the introduction
My pleasure 😇
There are a lot of cute watches out there, lot cuter than even this one but that doesn't mean that you have to buy them regardless of how much effort has gone to it!
In the world of giant watchmakers these kind of watches don't get much chance. we would be lucky if we get our hands on our favorite Rolexs, Breitlings, IWCs, Cartiers Panerais and yes even G-shocks.
Sugess watches are fabulous
The Chinese are upping their game.
No second stop for over 3000 bucks is ridiculous. Wouldn't even buy that for 500 Dollars
And nice as it looks… still couldn’t bring myself to spend 5 Grand on a Chinese watch
Great. But that huge branding spoiled the dial.. 🤔
Yes, conditioning has played a huge part in how we think for sure 👍
That ‘lion’ logo on the back looks more like a Chinese dragon to me. 😳
It does, but I have it on good authority it is indeed a lion 😊
A modern, non-hacking watch for 2,652 GBP - I cannot get my head around that.
Why do you need your watch to hack? You're only gaining a couple seconds of accuracy once per adjustment by hacking, very few people need their watch to be that ultra accurate and if they did, then they would just wear a quartz
Chinese watches now are like Japanese cars in the 70s. They will be mainstream by the end of the decade.
I guess a Peacock is kinda like a pretty Seagull...
A beautiful watch, but at this price point a movement without hacking is crazy. I know that the movement it not that important for many watch buyers but this is not just about the quality of the craftmanship of the movement but the lack of a function you get from the even cheapest automatic watches today.
Very strange choice regarding hacking. I wouldn't mind or even notice 1-2 mm higher, but non hacking is a dealbreaker.
It's not that big a deal. Most people will wear this watch occasionally and not worried about it being a few seconds off
@@nerychristian I guess it isn't that important without clear minute track. But still fashion watches that aren't time telling tool first, are pointless for me.
Wow
Non hacking is a deal breaker for me.
I'm too anal about setting the time.
I would have also liked to see the crown recessed a tiny bit into the case.
The watch otherwise looks very nice.
The Chinese have definitely made an impact.
I wish the watch had with feature hack feature!!!
That's why I stopped buying it! :((
For $3,300us you have Tudor, Longines, Oris, Cartier, Omega, Sinn, Junghans, Nomos, Grand Seiko... the list goes on and on.
Nicely said..
This video is by far your most advert like. We know you need to make money running the channel, but this felt like a pure ad.
The second rubber strap is very poor..it becomes open every now and then
My Seiko alpinist has more complications and a better movement
