Oh my. This took forever to figure out, until I found this video. The IPv6 was disabled on our MFC-J870DW printer. I don't know when or how that happened, but we suddenly were unable to print from our phones. Now it works, thanks to the comprehensive video instructions (skip to 4:00 to see how to change your IPv6 settings).
This video was extremely helpful and the pinned comment helped me jump right to enabling the IPv6 which was exactly what I needed! It took about hour to get my new printer connected to wifi and all of my devices printing. In the grand scheme of things, wasn't too bad!
I downloaded the Brother printer app onto my iphone and added the printer's IP address manually. Airprint works like a charm now on my iphone and ipad.
Thank you, I have a DCP-T520W printer and I have been wanting to print for the last 3 days but I thought I had to do a lot of work but all I had to do was shut down both my iPad and printer and then turn off the WiFi router and then turn them all back on
Thanks so much! What did the trick for me was enabling IPv6 on our Brother HL-L5200DW printer which we absolutely love, by the way.

Life saver bro! It was IPV6, like 90% of the comments here! Thanks again!
Glad to hear it!

Thanks, IPV6 was turned off. It works now!
My problem was turning the IPV6 back on. Somehow it had gotten turned off.
HOORAY! THANK YOU for posting the suggestion to enable IPv6 on our Brother printer!
You're welcome!
Dual band was my problem. Rebooted then connected to the 2g on both devices. I have an iPhone 8 Plus.
Thank you! Giving WiFi 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz band a different SSID name worked for me!
Great!
I' am not sure yet but I bet the problem was the IPv6 not being enabled on the printer.

IPv6 was the ticket. I was worried because my model is older
Omg thank you so much, I thought I was going to have to buy a new printer!
