It’s bizarre really, Seeing Gus this paranoid. It humanizes him, and it shows just how big of a threat Lalo is to scare Gus like this.
He's the perfect villain for Gus
Lalo was the only one who can match Gus in both preparation and lethality.
Lalo is the best.
it shows how much of a p*ssy Gus is; "smart coward surrounded by brave warriors" - Akala
Lalo is one thing but the bigger threat is that he is facing one side slaughter from the cartel, should the word gets out

This scene compliments Gus in Breaking Bad. Walt's planted a bomb on Gus's car at the hospital, and Jesse tells Gus he thinks someone poisoned Brock. Gus see's this a red flag and when going back to his car, stops, takes a look from the parking complex, and decides not to get in his car, walking off. He's always been very meticulous and over-cautious.
No one watches the car anymore. And they should.
You have to be in his profession. That's why so many men die young
I always thought that that scene was a tiny bit too much of a stretch, I get that Gus is a calm and careful man and it makes sense he would be paranoid. But it still felt just a bit too convenient he would sense something was wrong right before getting to his car and just turn tail and leave. Doesn’t mean I don’t like it, but it’s just a tiny bit off to me.
@@michaelzhang9806 heavily implies some kind of intelligence service mindset. Hes probably former DINA
@@michaelzhang9806 It was obvious to him that he was lured to the hospital by Walt poisoning the kid, the whole time Gus is walking to his car, he's thinking, "who would poison this seemingly random kid, and why?" and then he sees his car isolated in a quiet part of the parking lot, and thinks, "oh, that's why, it lured me here and left my car vulnerable"
Gus is like a total James Bond villain with his underground laboratory & secret passageways. The man is legit.
I didn't understand that part. Why does he have a secret passageway which leads to rooms that have windows? You don't put windows on rooms that are supposed to be secret.
@@PatrickPierceBateman that was a decoy house with a decoy couple living in it. it's supposed to look normal, with windows...

The way he pauses and looks at the gun, really makes you realise the weight and cost of being a criminal kingpin. You see this look of wanting to take it off and never have to wear it again. But he realises he can never take it off, just like he can never escape this criminal life now as he sighs and puts it back around his ankle.
No, it's the fact that he's paranoid about Lalo. Normally Gus doesn't wear a gun, or a vest.
@@SolusDarkcoat Yes and in this scene he is trying to convince himself that maybe he doesn't need to wear it this time but then you see his face change just a bit when he realizes no, he must wear the gun still, don't get lazy.
the gun is scratching up his shoe, that's why he wanted to take it off.
@@Hamstray The holsters it too high (and positions above his shoe), so I don't think that's it. That said, I think you're close: it seems to be too loose, so I imagine the friction of it (especially with his trouser leg jiggling it) is irritating his leg.
My assumption was that because of the strap having a hole at the bottom, with the barrel of the gun barely poking out, Gus was concerned there was a chance someone could see it and raise a suspicion.
As paranoid as that sounds, it's Gus. It makes total sense for him to stress over a tiny insignificant detail such as that. Although that's only a possibility.
For those wondering, this is Gu's safe house (is next to his main one), where he set his surveillance and defense team against Lalo. The random people that "don't notice him" are a decoy couple, hired by him to keep appearances and to not rise suspicion (they probably were ordered to act as if a security team isn't there). Because of the proximity of those houses, that tunnel must've been easy to dig unlike the lab which required planning for both the drainage/water system and ventilation system.
I don't think anyone was wondering
Did you also notice that Gus wears a bullet proof vest? This is probably so he can avoid severe injuries or death if being shot at. He also conceals a gun by his ankle to be able to defend himself in case of an aggression. Tiny details like these really give life to the characters.
Honestly I think the tunnel and the decoy couple was a bit of a stretch, but cool scene nevertheless
@@vitorhegermann I don’t think it’s as big of a stretch when factoring how much power and influence Madrigal has a a multi national corporation.
It’s been referenced how Madrigal has a lot of business interests globally. Say Madrigal has a hand in neighborhood/private community development they could easily build a tunnel and connect various houses while constructing the entire neighborhood.
Having those specific houses purchased by Gus and his team as their base is not that unlikely (as opposed to say Russians having an underground base in Indiana like in Stranger Things lol).

I love how while this is happening, a chemistry teacher and his stoner student have yet to take down everything lmao

The music makes this scene so absolutely badass
This whole sequence does so much work to humanise Gus. Seeing his paranoia, his exasperation at having to constantly look over his shoulder, really sells that the guy was human at the end of the day.

**THE SONG IS "Sneaking" BY The Crooked Spoke**

Two things that caught my attention
1. The obvious thing, he changed from a bright yellow 'chicken man' clothes to a black 'drug lord' clothes
2. He took off his pistol strap and itches his ankles indicating that he's uncomfortable and tired of living in constant fear and undercover. But he needs it and he loves it
As someone who concealed carried a firearm for 10 years. I can relate to that ankle holster dilemma. It's so heavy and uncomfortable but what if I need it? What to do?
So crazy all that money and having to live like that all the time…Great show
He got the same vest that the twins bought
Gotta give Gustavo credit for preparation, A tunnel from one house to another, and a on call response team that is dedication for being a few moves ahead of any threats.
they weren’t a few moves ahead of lalo finding kim’s apartment
still love how the decoy couple have a bunch of puzzles and games to keep them occupied. surprisingly humanizing and pleasant moment for the goons that usually get little or none, i.e shitty topknot guy, tyrus.
I love when Gus “transforms”; in this and a few times in Breaking Bad, we see him sort of “shed” his Fast Food Manager by removing his simple business tie and bland cream colored shirt, only to put on darker tones, and sharper fit clothing. Literally going from Businessman to gangster.
I just realized, Gus may have started into all of this out of a business opportunity, out of fun to have with his boyfriend back then... but ever since the incident at Don Eladios place, he only kept on going for the revenge against all of them... you never see him do it for a family, nor for the money to live it up... all just power and ultimately revenge.
Just revenge. Power was means to achieve it.

My favourite character, I love Gus, I felt bad about his end, but Im glad to see him again in BCS.
I always what drew Gus to this lifestyle. He’s an incredibly disciplined and tactful man. He’d make his way real high up in any corporate structure.
I could see him learning multiple languages and at least a graduate degree.
Maybe he wouldn’t make it to the top tier of a multinational. But with this level of discipline, he’d for sure hit the national levels.
This is the kind of corporate manager that could catch small details that others could not, and after several years of doing that, you’re making the top good decisions and putting good eyes on the middle level.
So much bullshit capitalism talk in this comment.
@@crylune lol not saying it’s not. That’s how corporations work.
It's the little things that make people great actors. Giancarlo looked at that gun like a man who feels its weight all day and thinks about it constantly.
Gus does all these just to come out of Hector Salamanca's room and straighten his tie, half baked!
You know this could be why he did Salamonga himself knowing that Lalo hit went wrong. Though I think that was more the personal wanting revenge part of it. But he clearly didn’t learn from Scarface. You let someone else shoot the man. A death is a death.

Let's be honest, this music was a banger
I just laughed thinking about pac man with gus. And when he gets hit by the ghost the scream from face off plays and he explodes 😆
0:20 the clip-on tie symbolizes Gus' professional persona perfectly. Something he can snap on effortlessly. It looks like a tie, but is merely concealing his true nature, laying just above the bulletproof vest.
Imagine he took this level of caution with Walt. Woulda never been blown up
He underestimated walt
Does this mean that if Jessie attempted to poison Gus when they were together like Walt wanted then it wouldn't of worked causing Jessie/Walt to immediately be killed?
I believe so, one of his guards would have spotted the attempt on the cameras. Really adds to how futile Jesse and Walt's attempts were.
Wearing your body armor a little low there Gus............
Lalo killed 16 Czetchen rebels. Guy was an interior decorator

He even color coordinates his bullet proof vest and tactical pistol holster. Pure class.
Really? Gus always use bulletproof vest on suit, this person is very careful
the clip on tie, is a nice touch on keeping up false appearances
I think a major theme across BB and BCS is this idea of people trying to do good things via bad deeds. They know they're in a life of crime, but they think that if they can just ride it out a little bit further, they can even the scales out. It's a very vulnerable position to be in, to know that you've dug yourself a hole so deep that the only way out is to keep digging. We haven't seen that kind of vulnerability in Gus very much, until this scene. Right here is a moment where Gus doesn't look like a crime lord to me, he looks like a man in over his head. He "broke bad" once too. He still has parts of himself left to break.
its very interesting that gus with all the busy activity of his other empire, still find time to review chicken restaurant staff.
its as if pollo business is as important as his empire.
i really want a prequel of how hollos hermanos is build. im sure we also get to see the birth of gus as well which is what im dying to see
I love it when Gus said “it’s methin’ time” and proceeded to meth and absolutely methed all over Saul
And huel finally fueled
This was probably the lowest we've ever seen Gus, forced to wear a bulletproof vest and unable to relax even in the safety of his own home. Just goes to show how dangerous Lalo was, that he could put Gus in this position.
Bro carried a concealed hammer revolver like Walt did
This is only a minor detail, but I always remember it. Gus was always reserved and stoic, save for when he had his violent moments. He was always well put together, yet he wore a clip-on tie. I sold suits in a past gig, some clients were high profile, others needed a suit for a funeral and had never worn one prior. 90% bought ties - some would ask me to tie it for them because they had no idea how. Bottom line is, there is nothing wrong with a clip-on tie, I always appreciate the effort. But someone like Gus is wearing one while knowing everything about him, makes it almost blatant. It’s almost a flex at how easy the façade was for him. Because whether you like it or not, you can tell if someone is wearing one.
I'm 57 years old. I just learned to tie a tie, like 2 years ago. I wore the most stylish designer clip ons, for decades. Most told me, they had no idea, when I finally pulled one off, in front of them. Lol
@@thomasbrown3356 less of a flex, more of a security concern- can't be strangled with a clipon tie.
The Crooked Spoke Sneaking is the song
That deep breath he gives at 1.16. I watched breaking bad, and with the exception of the flash back scene by the pool where he's pinned down by the cartel, i can't remember a moment where that character ever gives that much of a sign of emotional vulnerability.
Despite how cautious & paranoid Gus was - Lalo still had him. That gun was a last resort on the off chance he could get to it, makes me wonder if he had something similar for Walt? Maybe a hidden weapon in the lab or something?
He wasn't as paranoid of walt as he was of lalo so probably not
@@epicfan1598
He was as paranoid of Walt by the end. Gus didn't get in the car then abducted Jesse, remember?
Gus knew Walt was somewhere.
I only just noticed, the guy Gus walks by in the tunnel is supposed to be a double or decoy of sorts since he's dressed the same as Gus.
Gus doesn't close the "doors" when he leaves his house, and the other guy is walking to Gus' house too. He probably does "normal" stuff like cooking, laundry so that if anyone affiliated with Lalo checks they'll think that guy is Gus, at least if they're far enough away or don't know what Gus looks like other than a vague description.
This just shows how much was Gus getting tired of having to live in constant fear and stress from leading a cartel bussiness. If he had a second chance to start fresh, he probably would. I think he really enjoyed just being a chicken man and leading his food chain and would prefer that over cartel stuff. But once he's in it he has no choice but to keep moving and be the very best he can be to achieve his goals - especially vengeance against Eladio and Hector. Which consist of staying on high alert, having gun by his side at all times and be prepared to face Lalo at any time any day. That shit is just metal.
Living in a constant state of paranoia is no way to live. Gus may have all the money in the world, but he still doesn't have freedom
Whoever did the basement door wall 🧱 did a amazing job because u can't even see the crack in the wall until he moves the secret door open
Cant wait for the spinoff series where they show Gus Fring's rise to fastfood success, I imagine there will be episodes where the KFC guys down the block would vandalize his tiny little shop and he would plot his revenge climaxing in episode 12 lol.
The only video where like disabling is absolutely appropriate. Nobody can dislike Mr. Fring.
Kim Wexler…I mean Rhea Seehorn did a fantastic job directing this episode and this scene proves it otherwise 😊
The score here is amazing. Something about it just feel so unsettling and ominous, like something is coming but you don't know what. Turns a scene of a man doing pretty boring stuff on paper into a head scratcher. Love it.
I could watch a movie about Gus Frings daily routine
Lalo not only makes Tuco look slightly sane but makes Gus develop a paranoia he never had before, Lalo was one of those characters I didn't like only because he was ruthless, regardless of someone's game status if they knew of his existence, and furthermore what his plans were, he'd put them down or even intimidate them into thinking twice before calling the cops, poor Howard didn't even see the shot coming.
