In this clip, Tony Yayo disputed Dr. Umar Johnson's claim that Eminem shouldn't be considered one of the greatest rappers because he isn't Black. Contrary to this view, Yayo praised Eminem, admitting he is among his top five personal favorite emcees, a view sparked by becoming an Eminem fan after his "Renegade" performance with Jay-Z. When i was 12, i got the MMLP...i was fascinated...i wanted more...so i checked the features...xzibit, snoop , dre etc...then went and got all their albums for xmas...by the time i was 16 and working...i would spend all my wages on hiphop albums..

What happened with em was strategic. Majority of his hardcore fanbase were young white people who lived in white areas, who wished they had more of a diverse/black hood environment. He was perfect for them because he was white but was rapping in a hardcore manner like he was black, wearing durags, and surrounded himself with black people. He was perfect for the late 90s, early 2000s. Majority of his fans aren’t even rap fans or hip hop fans, they are Eminem fans.
