The knotter needs grease. Just don't use a power grease gun on it.. Some people just put one shot of grease on knotter parts. I just use limited amounts of grease around the knot mechanism. Wipe excess away. To much? > Just spray down with starting fluid. The knotter has no bushings so it's metal to metal, so no grease will wipe it out. One new knotter costs over $1,500 and you need two. A manual grease gun will let you know if the fitting is taking grease, a power gun can be deceiving. Typically you rake the rows straight first and then go around the field cleaning up the ends. Much cleaner and bale the ends first if you can get them picked up before the long rows. I know you like left hand turns. In the ag world that's not typical. The baler will be running faster around the turn since it is on the outside and the baler is more prone to striking something as the baler swings much wider. We do 2,000 to 2,300 bales each time out so good luck.
Clutch Problems are often due to Operator or adjustment. Travelling in a gear or 2 too high and riding the Clutch are possibly the cause. There should be a couple inches of free motion in the clutch pedal before resistance is felt. There is normally an adjustment for this. Criss Cross bales when stacking. So glad you had a great Hay yield.
A great video and congrads on the amount you got off the fields first cut. I can remember as a young lad back in the early 1950's handling the small bales and it was very hard dirty work. You went home with your arms all red from the bales. Back then everything was don't by hand and stacked in the barns. Balers back then missed many knots and no one hand the brains or know how to fix the problems.
When stacking hay in the barn, always stack it on the bales edge (strings on the sides, not top and bottom). The bales are more likely to squash when stacked flat. Your bailer should be set up to drop the bales on their edge. Having grown up on a dairy farm and custom hauling a lot of hay when I was younger, I’ve hauled well over 1M bales. My body aches just typing that. Congratulations on your bountiful first cutting.

I am glad that I live in an area where we can cut hay in the morning and bale it the same afternoon. It saves a lot on getting the hay rained on and baking for days in the sun.
I usually ted my hay right after I mow. It will dry faster and doesn’t lose its color. I believe if you learn to bale turning to the right you’ll do a neater job and it’ll be easier on your pto universal joints. Good luck with your eggs. Wouldn’t have a clue how many critters I’ve run through our mower, ( Turkey,deer snakes turtles, even found a Weasle once )

Same Here We cut, tedded, raked, and Round baled 200 acres in 5 days,,, Six Hundred 70 4x5 bales,,,, We even had the Krone Field Rep running one of the Balers he cam to set up.....
yes it would be great to have a skid steer for the barn unloading. We might have our builder relocate the barn door so we can drive straight in and back out.
I use to do about 6000 squares first cutting now only make around 600 squares everything else is rounds now. Much easier. I only put half a manual pump of grease on knotters use high temp grease.
Beautifully video Suzanne. I hope you don't plan on making hay this week. We sure have a lot of rain compared to last year. Hopefully it stays this way most of the time. It will be neat if the turkey eggs hatch. Maybe you can put them under the turkey that you still have.

Hay looks good. Nice yield as well! I have an older NH 570- I do not run it at 540 rpm. It's much happier running around 450. I like to sit on the deck at enjoy the view of the mountains after a long day.
Interesting! I had read that if it doesn't hit 90 strokes per minute that it might not have enough PUSH to get things into correct alignment. But then, I have comments from others similar to yours that they do better at slower speeds :) And the deck view sounds amaing!

Yes, I do have the electric fencing, using it for my geese. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Might be the issue with my mainline fence charger though. One downside was a baby goose tried going through it and got stuck and burned the bottoms of her feet because it kept shocking her :( The chickens still go in and out though... If hay is yours main cash crop shouldn't you focus on producing the best hay no matter how many hours? Perhaps you should hire somebody to to cut and bale your hay crops
Currently it is. The problem with hiring someone is they are not going to be as picky as I am, and their time less flexible. I would love to get a smaller accumulator though, it would really speed things up!
It's easy if you grew up around equipemnt and fixing stuff. But the internet is FULL of guys who HAVE experience fixing stuff and still cannot figure out their baler ;)

LOL, ours was MUCH older than Erik had thought. He was fully fooled by the new stickers and paint, but likely it was from the 1980's or 90's . . . But I DO love how it hogs down more hay and takes bigger windrows! Really no complaints just need knotter system replaced :)
I did a blend, our pH was a bit low so they added pelletized lime. Whatever they recomeded for my fields. Today I'll throw down some urea and really blast it off for summer!

Yes, as are plantains :) Most weeds in moderation are ok, but too many can spike the sugar content ;)

We stack ours flat. They only squish if you bale them loose strings should be very tight

? No it takes us a few days. We don't cut and bale same day, not with cool season grass up here. It are doing good if we can bale it after 3 days :)

It looks like a skidsteer would work on your grapple in the barn better then the TYM.
You can rent them for a day or two.

Yes, we have a mix of Tekapo and Persist varieties of Orchard Grass. I really like Persist, it does amazing on our clay during summer drought!

What kind of grass is your hay?
Orchard grass, but a few volunteer grasses seed in on their own like brome and timothy and a few wild ones :)

Not greasing is not very smart.Hay baling is very easy you make more to it than it is.Working on a baler is very easy knowing hard about it.
