It doesn't get any better than this. My favorite Steely Dan tune. Absolutely amazing musicians playing together. RIP Ricky Lawson, Cornelius Bumpus and Walter Becker.
That’s excellent, I’ve been Larry s gtr tech for over 35 yrs , & I can tell you that Larry never plays the same way twice. But every one loves the original take , it’s historic. Nothing personal about it, he’s just off on to the next thing , he’s a master now!
"Works in Los Angeles" (those enterprising glamour profession types). Where else of course? This clip is about the best live presentation of this track that I've viewed so far. Thanks A.C. Live music. You did well.
Such funky version.... what a ride everything is stripped bare and I love it. This one has got to be my favourite Steely Dan song (together with Babylon sisters) Great 💓
I can"t tell from what he said if Donald dug Wayne Krantz"s solo. Kind of seems like he's knocking it. Either way, I think Wayne fucking tore this song up. I love hearing him play with SD.
That was the only Steely Dan tour for Wayne. I remember the show quite well in New York in 1996. Didn’t feel Krantz fit in - strayed a little too much from the band and his playing was a little too “hard” for Steely Dan. Drew Zinng was with them on the first tour, quite good. But Jon Herington who has been with band for 20 years is the best fit. He captures the essence of the original solos and his own improvs are excellent.
@@rocnrolldr Drew Zingg had just the right sound and skills imho. Krantz, while displaying great improv didn't have the right sound .... Herrington, while a good player, doesn't have the dynamic for me ...
@@rocnrolldr It didn't help that Krantz's guitar was turned up way too loud in the mix. And, like most Steely Dan material, it really doesn't benefit from that piccolo snare sound that Fagen has been so fond of from _Kamakiriad_ onward. Fagen was struggling with the high notes on this one. Credit to the group for not pulling a "Josie" on this one.
I swear this is the smoothest song ever written. On the album version a lot has to do with the impeccable production, of course, but the melodic invention, arrangement, superb playing & Donald Fagen's unmistakable voice are the main factors. I used to play that album over & over again & could never believe how good it is.
Over the MOON to experience their Portland 1996 concert~ spine-tinglingly fabulous for this fan! Rest peacefully dear Walter, Cornelius Bumpus and the others I'm sure I missed, that made this concert life-changing for many of us!
Fagen & Becker compositions are so hard to play or duplicate in a live situation, I tip my toupee to these musicians for such a marvelous performance. Beethoven's piano concerto's are easier to duplicate in a live situation because you don't have that added complexity of vocals to deal with.
Typical. Bass player not important enough for camera time. One of the best bands, a killer rendition of one of their best tracks, with the great bassist Tom Barney playing a fine, accurate part that replicates the totally killer original Anthony Jackson bass line. So, where is he in this video? Hey Tom... nice playin,' man.
After everyone else (including Chic) had had their say , the Dan come in with the definitive 'disco' track. Seriously, would you expect anything less ?!
it does. check out dr. buzzard's original savannah band -- I think their sound was a lot of the inspiration behind this track. they were masters of big band disco fusion.
brave guitarist playing the out solo. steve khan hit that one so far out of the park its still flying.
Ahh ... Steve Khan ... always liked his playing, thanks for the reminder on the original recording
Steve Khan's outro was sheer genius. He knew where to place every note & every silence to achieve perfection.
Yesss!
Amen to that varsity athlete

FINALLY, after years this is the first time I’m hearing my favorite SD song in live version 😵😵😵
Yes indeed, this is one of my favorites also - happy to share it!
Same!!!!
This is my SD fav too and first time hearing it live. Thanks for posting!!
Sameee this is my favourite song of all times :)
Wayne Krantz - taking the guitar solo - his guitar playing is amazing

Local boys will spend a qwauta!
SD the best group in the history and Donald a pure genious
Wayne's solo 5:38 🙌🏼

I was there at this gig. Art Crimes Tour. My very first SD show. Didn't know there was any footage of this. Thanks for sharing.
An entire show from this tour was on YT once. I managed to record it then.
@@steves_garage Any chance of posting it?
@@tiluriso Actually I think it might be back on here somewhere. It was the show at Manassas.
@@steves_garage Gonna look for it.

Gaucho fan. :-)
Good taste. Gaucho is impeccable and inspiring

I think that directly, Donald was commenting on the character who narrates the song. An enterprising fellow.

Fantastic take on the outro
The first 'live Dan' lineup, beautiful work, RIP Cornelius Bumpas, these people know how to play
Glamour Profession live! Could'nt wait to hear the outro solo.
Living hard, will take its toll!
One of their best compositions. Fabulous lyric and a great vehicle for some great solos.

To have been there!
Thanks for sharing this performance, greetings from Mexico City!
I cannot get enough of this video!!
Glamour Profession is such an odd song, but I love it for that. Weird lyrics and even weirder harmonies makes this song so cool
the lyrics aren't weird at all, they just describe dealing drugs
Damn Steve snapped on that solo at the end my God
Amazing band!

Thanks for sharing all of these SD live tracks♥️👌👍

fantastic upload can anyone recall if they had video screens up at this venue
Wow!
Is it my imagination, or does this thing have a disco beat?
You crack me up! Cheers!

Of course it does. _Gaucho_ was released in 1980.
And believe it or not there are dummies who hate on this tune and the Gaucho album!! Ridiculous.
Wish the drummer kept the original fills
Wayne Krantz
The piano solo sucks, he's driving blind. Now the guitar solo at the end is incredible, he just just, screw it, I'm going for it, just killer!
