    This is amazing, actually, this is what I was looking for. Configuration as code, simple configuration, good documentation. I was using Heimdall till now, but I have already replaced it with Homepage, thanks for bringing this up.

    A HUGE THANK YOU for this video!! I love Homepage and their use of YAML. Simple to setup and configure, and it's extremely fast loading. I've been using Heimdall for a while, and I've always noticed how slowly it loads. I hope you can do a follow-up video when they're completed with the development cycle.

    I love the layout and extra information on homepage, but I find it hard talking myself into switching away from Heimdall, the convince and simplicity of it is more important to me, I know it's not that much work, but I appreciate being able to hit add, type in the name and it grabbing the icon / description for me, not sure why that's such an uncommon/overlooked feature by dashboard makers.

    • @DBTechYT
      @DBTechYT  Год назад

      I get that. I felt the same way about Organizr when I first got into it. Organizr allows you to add apps from the dashboard, but still lets you add API info to import real-time data

      Same. Heimdall is so easy to stand up and configure. And it looks great when I check my services on my phone. Think i'll give "Homepage" a spin on my test environment, though.

    I think this is going to finally make me switch from heimdall. Being able to categorize is a big plus for me, especially as I also have multiple portainers and that sort of thing. My only gripe so far is I have 4 categories and it puts the 4th one on its own row which makes sense, but it extends the icon all the way across the page for some reason.

    • @DBTechYT
      @DBTechYT  Год назад +1

      The reason it's laying things out like that is because of the responsive framework they used to build the HTML. It will look different on different screens and this is just one of the layouts

    • @moisthoagie1992
      @moisthoagie1992 Год назад +3

      Oh that is interesting to know. Maybe there will be an option for it at some point.

  • @Moukrea
    @Moukrea Год назад +1

    The only downside with yaml/json and such based configurations without a proper backend is that you won't have a proper RBAC... I'd like different dashboard for different users and/or hide internal services based on context (for exemple : show administrative services when connected to the home network, hide them from remote locations), too bad, this dashboard ticket most boxes for its layout! Also, Heimdall does integrate with more services, but suffers from the same kind of issues

    • @DBTechYT
      @DBTechYT  Год назад

      I don't think this service is meant to have RBAC

    • @Moukrea
      @Moukrea Год назад

      @@DBTechYT Well, I guess it depends... Say you want to give easy access to all common services to your family members (Nextcloud, Plex/Emby/Jellyfin, Bittwarden...) but as the admin you want to access all your monitoring tools and administrative pages + the possibility to show/hide services based on the network you're connected to (not revealing sensitive information when outside of local network for exemple)... this would make sense. In my case I have one instance of Heimdall per user, and a specific one for administration stuff, hidden behind a login page... Which is cumbersome

    • @DBTechYT
      @DBTechYT  Год назад +2

      Then I don't think you use this service. There are a bunch of other dashboards out there allow for users to have access to only specific services that you've given them access to. Organizr is a good example of a dashboard that allows for different user account and user account access.
