    Great pointers. I only send to cgc something that is at least $200-$300. Anything less is really not worth it. Good point about high end books.

    Agree 100% on what you said on certain artists. I don’t collect anyone specially but if I see a njce cover priced right by someone like Ross, hughes, etc that’s a $5-15 buy I make on impulse all the time.

    Great video James and very helpful. I'm starting to unload some of my 17,000 plus collection in order to fund getting some bigger keys and these tips help! I'll be in Jersey next month for a few weeks and will definitely stop by your shop. Me and a buddy of mine have bought from your claim sales before and would love to meet you at some point!

    Variant covers - I would only buy a variant cover if it was a key issue AND IF the variant cover featured a first appearance of some new character(s) in which cover A may not feature.
    This would be for speculation.

    Awesome video, love the new editing (if it is not new, I apologize). I would say that signature books definitely don't move as well for me, and I was happy to see you call out some artists names that move crazy quick. I'd also point out that some books just deserve to be graded if they are above a five or so, mainly books prior to 1965 in common character runs. Love your content and have for at least a year. Congrats on the new child and I wish you and your wife the best.

    You would think a hot comic with say, 5 signatures would be a hot seller. But think of the cost for those signatures. If you wind up discounting the book because it's not moving you can lose a lot.

    • @T-RexSuplex1
      @T-RexSuplex1 Месяц назад +1

      Yeah that's why I only do this for personal collection. When they do leave my collection I'll be gone so anything they sell for will be a gain to my fam. The joy of meeting the creators is awesome for me

    • @robertt9342
      @robertt9342 Месяц назад

      @@T-RexSuplex1. The signatures should just be a souvenir of meeting the person, I don’t see any value in it if I didn’t get them. What connection do I have to someone scribbling on the comic if I am not there. If I get something signed, it’s a low value book.

    • @T-RexSuplex1
      @T-RexSuplex1 Месяц назад

      @robertt9342 I understand that and I feel the same way to an extent. Whether a sig should or shouldn't add value is up to.the buyer and most times they pay a bit higher specially for hard to get sig like a John Byrne and now cgc verifies sig it could get wild. But again I just do it for me and mt PC.

  • @stormshadowctf

    This was a great video, thank you for sharing your insights. The one thing I discovered selling books is that like you stated certain books do sell just off the cover artist alone even if it is a non key. But what I also discovered is certain books tend to sell more than others, for example I normally don't have a problem selling Spider-Man or Star Wars books (especially the Star Wars books) those just tend to always sell. The other thing I also noticed is that some times what helps you sell is complete sets over individually listed books. I had a bunch of Star Wars the High Republic books that were not selling and then I started making lots (like an issues 1-15 set) and they started getting a lot of views and individuals watching them and then they were selling pretty quickly. Thanks again for the great content.

    I learned the hard way that store exclusives don’t sell 😂I normally try and get rid of them as soon as I get them, however I will keep them if i love the art

  • @Inktransfercomics
    @Inktransfercomics Месяц назад

    I’ve really clamped down on signature series submissions for the reasons you listed. It narrows the market for the book too much, and it’s made it harder for me to move certain books that probably would have done much better raw or as blue label slabs.

    Great video James, my question for you is that I have 5 short boxes of keys and iconic covers and only about 10 books are graded and I would to grade all my keys but I feel like it's a waste of money cause I could use that money to get more books plus CGC keeps raising there prices which doesn't help.

    Only way you win on a book like that signed man thing is if you score it for a bargain. I had a similar book was a 9.8 run filler but because I got for cheap enough I was happy to sell for the profit I did (spent $70 all in and because it got the 9.8, I was happy with $400 even if it was maybe worth a bit more technicaally)

    4:25 - "you can send in your (pre-signed) books, and it costs a lot less." Can you clarify that statement? Presently, if you have a pre-signed book and you send it in the CGC/JSA for grading and verification, it's $25 for the signature and another $25 for the grading of the book (assuming a modern book). But, if you get a witnessed signature on that modern book, it's only $45 for the witnessing and grading.

    • @MintHunterComics
      @MintHunterComics  Месяц назад

      Most witness signature series cost a total of between $75 and $200 - compare that to $45 and I'd say that's a steal

    Your asking $2k for Astonishing Tales #13 9.8 signed? Last sale for the book in 9.8 unsigned was $1580 in 2022 at the height of the boom. You think the signature is worth 500+???

    • @michaelsharkey4255
      @michaelsharkey4255 Месяц назад

      I would think the new price would be lower as books have dropped over the past year. $2000 does seem high but it also depends what James has into it.

    • @PrestigeWorldwide320
      @PrestigeWorldwide320 Месяц назад

      I would think that it depends on who it is signed by. Roy Thomas (one of the co-creators of man-thing) signed this book. In my opinion, it gives it historical significance, especially since it is the only one in existence. Pretty cool if you ask me, but I think it speaks to exactly what James is conveying in this video. If you limit yourself to only those collectors of a very specific character, genre, artist, or title you're going to be holding onto that book for a long time.

    I think the name Man-Thing in itself is a reason why the comic doesn't sell.
    I like the character and think it is one of Marvels most original creations. Having said that i think they should give him a new name that rings true with the modern age like;... err...
    Gender fluid swamp guy?
