    A 700+ dollar 12 string mando-guitar is a damn good price. One could easily replace tuners with white or ivoroid knobs from StewMac, 2 sets of guitar tuners.
    A few years ago I built an electric octave mandolin. 21" scale length. Before I quit building electric instruments, I should have tried a 12er, similar to this one, with a 15 or 16 inch scale.

    Was given a 12 string gold tone F style mandoguitar and would like to find some instructions or lessons? Your overview was excellent. I need more. Thoughts

    So, this was years ago. Good news! Well, at least the one I have coming in the mail has the all black headstock. I suppose a newer model. They must have taken your review into consideration. :)

    Hi, mine arrived yesterday. The action needs to come down a little but there is no movement left in the bridge. Is there any way round this? It's brand new.

    • @ruscular
      @ruscular 2 года назад

      I agree the action is a tad high!

    • @robertshorthill6836
      @robertshorthill6836 Год назад

      @@ruscular A luthier can work on the bridge a bit by sanding the under side. Be careful not to overdue it or string buzz can show up. Of course the saddle may need to be considered or adjusted, if possible.

    Is there any reason you couldn't tune this in fifths, say CGDAEB? Or would that create too much tension?

    • @tommargolis3901

      Hey Adrian Why not simply tune it to mandolin standard tuning,it won't be exact but close..DDGGDDAAAAEE from low to high or some other variant!..

    Does the shape of the F-12 make it more difficult to play higher up on the neck than the GM-12? Overall for ease of playing, which of the two do you prefer?

    • @Michaelkeyreal
      @Michaelkeyreal  5 лет назад +1

      The F-12 is much easier for me to play.

    I am from Spain (Europe) and I am interested in acquiring this instrument in the USA. I have inquired from the company but am still waiting for an answer on this: can someone please tell me if they will work with 12 string acoustic guitar strings, and if so, what gauge? I ask because the distribution of the instrument and its strings does not reach Spain, so that if you buy it, you can change the strings. Thank you so much.

    • @Michaelkeyreal
      @Michaelkeyreal  10 месяцев назад +1

      Sorry for the late reply. You've probably found the answer but, yes. It uses .10 gauge acoustic guitar strings. Did you get one?

      @@jarodivey9033 some additional information. It's tuned an octave above standard tuning. The EAD have an additional high octave string and the GBE have unison octave strings. So the entire instrument is almost like putting a capo on a 12 string at the 12 fret with the difference being the G does not have an octave string, just unison. I'm in the UK and tracked one down this month. They're a lot of fun

      Hello. I think you can get the strings directly from Gold Tone and/or a music store in the Midwest called Elderly Instruments. A Google should get you there. Good luck!
