The Mandocello is by far the least expensive instrument of its type available from ANY manufacturer, but boasts deluxe features not offered anywhere else.
These include the patented Zero Glide nut and a Venetian-style cutaway body. The Mandocello also features a dual pickup system, which includes a jazz-style floating humbucker pickup mounted to the end of the pickguard, and a transducer pickup in the bridge (with volume controls for both on the pickguard), providing a superb plugged-in tone.

Perversion of the English language
I cringed when he said the doubled strings give it a "chorus effect".....the strings are supposed to be unison, moron. you only get a chorus-like effect when one of the unisons is out of tune......
This is so incredible, restring it and it becomes a kickass octave mandolin. Oval hole would be amazing some day, but I'd still buy this!
The pickups sound great! The bridge definitely helps to capture the high end, which often gets lost in the sauce with other pickups!

Goldtone has a lot of quality instruments at great prices. Also, the Zeroglide zero fret set up makes a really BIG difference when playing a stringed instrument

It actually depends, some people tune them in fifths, and some have 4 pairs of strings, while some don't.
An acoustic bass guitar is essentially the same as a mandobass, yes?

This looks awesome, I play the violin and then learned mandolin and picked it up really quickly but hate how high the instrument still is. I eventually want to pick up the Mandola because I started playing viola but this looks better. I want this, it’s so cool

I had one of the very first ones in the country. Didn't take me long to sell it. That guy sold it, too - quicker than I did. I don't know if many more made it here....

Yes, they go together very well!
You can blend almost any music with other styles. Check out Bella Fleck and The Flecktones.

Depends how big a blender you use.
Blend - maybe. Hear yourself? No. This thing is VERY quiet when played acoustically. They SAY solid spruce top, but it's either plywood - or so thick it will never vibrate. I was very disappointed in mine. Sold it quickly. He sold it even quicker.

This is so freaky!! I play the cello and when I started I always had trouble memorizing songs so I would actually practice them on my mandolin. I've played this song on the mandolin so many times and always wondered if anyone else had ever done that.
I'm still waiting for someone to invent a guitar style cello that I can somehow play with a bow. The cello is a very awkward instrument to play, but maybe I think that bc I started on guitar first.
Check out Takamine TB10, not exactly what you are mentioning but worth your having a look.
There is a guy builds exactly that and plays the heck out of it with a bow. He says he copied it from someone 200 or so years ago. Roughly it's a small viola da gamba.

You should be able to put any regular Mandocello strings on it
this instrument is absolutely perfect to play SALSA! and latin music... it would work perfectly... i'll be soooo keen to give it a go

Gold Tone.... Yes!!.. Salsa and other Latin rithyms like Son, guajiras, etc.. Use versions of the "Laud" that are part of the guitar family... In particular an instrument called CUATRO PUERTO RIQUEÑO and TIPLE COLOMBIANO... The first is a 10 strings guitar, 5 pairs of 2 strings tuned G, D, A, E, B.. And one of the strings is an octave lower than its pair.. And the second instrument is a 12 string guitar but these are 4 pairs of 3 strings.. Tuned E, B, G, D.. Both instruments gives the characteristic sound of Latin music... Example of this is any song from BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB and others
Gold Tone but both previous instrument needs some extra body in their sound.. That's why your instrument would be great.. Bright chords and lines but with more depth that doesn't need a piano to fill up the space
Gold Tone I'm part of a Latin band in auckland new Zealand... There is a big community and lots of people making Latin music here and Australia... Maybe I could show your instrument over here and make it more recognised.. Playing it in gigs with different Latin music bands.. There could be many potential buyers trying to push the limits of Latin music

thankyou, I take it the fingerboard is a basic guitar board, is the fret SPACING the cello or mandolin ,or basic guitar fret spacing my income is limited to basic and my son's SSI and what money we have after paying bills ad food so I build my OWN guitars and I'm currently building a solid body electric mandolin and can't afford the mandocello price so I'll have to build my own and what are the neck pitch and head stock angles I would so much appreciate it ,you look like a complete mandolin person as I am obsessed with the music they make and I'm a backwoods country boy

What differs you Zero Glide from the Zero Fret found in Macaferri and later Gretsch guitars?
On ours, the fret is inset into the nut, making it easier to swap in and out with a regular nut, without heavy modification to the instrument

would like to hear this in an acoustic electric design.....maybe a modified baritone acoustic or twelve string....it would have more body when played unplugged dont you think? This sounds really nice plugged in however .
What do you mean? It's already acoustic-electric. It has the neck pickup, and then a piezo pickup in the bridge.
@@Thompsongs I am referring to the body type, instead of an f hole hollow body style I would want this in a more tradition sound hole acoustic guitar design. So that it would resonate and project more when not plugged in. I understand that it has pick ups but that is not what I was talking about... this is an electric guitar as far as I'm concerned, not an acoustic electric. Do you understand the difference?

To be fair, mandolins in general are an oddity, which is part of why they are at least twice as expensive as an equal quality guitar.
And this iteration is the rarest of all.
If it were an f-style it could not be this cheap.

Seriously, you don’t want to know how much a decent orchestral instrument costs.
What kind of pick is being used here? I mainly hear the sound of the pick hitting the string, which is overpowering the actual tones that are played... quite odd.
If you remove the pickguard, would the piezo still work with an external preamp?
We have updated the design since this video was made. The knobs are now built into the body of the instrument
