Hello Marius, just installed this mod on my JDS-055. One alternative to using files for removing the plastic is using a cheap electric manicure set: it's basically a mini-dremel, and with a bit of patience and a couple of grinding bits (for callouses and nails) you can remove all the material.
I'm quite happy with how it looks and feels, thanks for the awesome work!
Thats super cool. Dremmels can be a bit brutal to the shell if one is not super carefull so the minin dremmel manicure thing sounds awesome. Great job :)

Wow! Incredible! Hope to order a few as soon as I confirm my main-board #. My controllers need their batteries replaced and I figured I might as well do this at the same time.
Don’t forget you need to check first before ordering, and if you have it open, you can just as well unplug te battery and connect a new one, close them and order the usb-c and open them up later again, otherwise you will have disassembled controllers all the time 😅

When is PS4 USB-C coming back in-stock? My Dualshock 4 Micro USB port is literally starting to break and I have to keep moving the charger for it to work. I don't want to order anymore Micro USB too so I don't want to buy a circuit board of Micro USB and I really need this. Please! I've been waiting for the item to go back in stock since July and it's still Sold-Out. I live in Canada.
Hello, in the meantime I installed all 3 circuit boards in my controlers (1x 40, 2x 055). The JDM40 works flawlessly, but one circuit board für JDM55 is faulty. As I have 2 JDM55 controllers I could cross-check it. With the faulty circuit board there are malfunctions: during charging the light most times is green instead of yellow. If I disconnect the charging cable the light keeps blinking for hours until the battery is empty. The PS4 doesn't recognize the charging status, too. It shows always charging. If I change the faulty circuit board in the other JDM55 controller the malfunction travels to this controller. The second JDM55 circuit board is fine.
If the light is green. Its faulty. Can you send me pictures of it in email? Ill send you new one. itsme@mariusheier.com

Yeah i did the first panel yesterday with my new pick and place. So i will hopefully make a ton during the weekend. When i get ontop of things im gonna share the design of all the boards for people that wanne build them selves.

How do you know which type of controller you have? On the back i just see CUH ZCT2E... But on your page it says JDS-5x etc
You need to check on the usb board inside the controller. Its written on the board. Check the medium article in the description ;)

Have you have tried overclocking your custom controller by any chance ? That's the only potential caveat I see detering me from buying one, if the usb-c port interferes with the overclock. (there's plenty of ps4 controller overclocking tutorials on youtube if you've never seen one btw).

Many have tested overclocking with this. It does not do anything with it. The ps4 controller have noe idea what a usbc connector is. It just sees two datalines +/-, ground and vbus (5v). :)

Thats right. My JDS11 board is not yet released. Its probably gonna be ready in two weeks or so. Im also making a video about making it. :)

Hi, I was looking to find a USB C knock off of the PS4 controller for my PC as all my devices use thunderbolt/USB C, except for my controller (So it's a bit of a hassle) and found this mod instead. It's currently out of stock, so I was wondering when you will be able to provide these again?

excuse me Sir. i saw an article saying u don't charge ds4 using fast charging chargers from phone since it will damage the battery. what does switching type c port do? or does this mean u can charge ds4 to ps4 usb port with a type c cable? also, does fast charging chargers of phones really damages the ds4 battery?
The charge speed is set by the charge ic. It doesnt know what charges it at all. I should probably make a debunking video about this and show the measurements. Changing the port to usbc does not do anything and the controller does not know what connector or port is used. But if you use a usbc charger with higher power. The ps4 controller could theoretically draw more power through that if it wanted. But again the charge current is set by the charge ic and not the charger.

Does this usb-c also supports the ps5 controller data transfer? If it doesn’t why not?
It does not know about usbc. Because it was not made when they made the ps4 controller. The datarate doesnt care about connector type. But just faster computers, (and super fast usb have extra connectors inside the usbc)

What advantages does this give the dualshock controller besides the actual port? Does it support fast charging or do they have the same capabilities of micro USB?
Good question. The only advantage it gives is better mechanical strength. If you had your controllers for many years without having any issues with the USB-micro port. You don't need this unless you like the looks of it.

Open it and look at the board, it’s written there.
Yup. The safest thing for identifying it is to just open the controller.

@@rbaz9454 That's either a JDS40 or a JDS55. Pretty sure it's a JDS40. You can open it and check the original USB board to be 100% sure. The JDS40 and JDS55 boards are actually interchangeable. But it has the cable connector on opposite sides. If you have a JDS55 and get a JDS40 board. You can still get it to fit, but it's pretty hard since the cable become so short. But can be done with tweezers.
the only issue about this product is that once you order it, your micro usb cord will break, knowing its days are numbered. can't wait for mine to come in though!

It has taken between 5 to 30 days so far. But usually it takes about 10.

I just installed this in my controller and I'm having an issue. It lights up when I turn on the controller, and when I plug it into my computer, windows plays the device discovery tone, however it doesn't actually appear to communicate with the computer or charge through the port. Do you think it's an issue with my controller's motherboard?
Check fpc cable for damage. Check if the latch on the connector is down. Check cable orientation. Lets try with that. :)

@@MariusHeier1 The chip looks fine, the ribbon cable is brand new, made sure the orientation is correct and made sure the latch is down. Same issue, my PC make a sounds like a device is connecting, but the controller doesn't light up to indicate charging and there is no controller detected by my PC. The same thing happens with a brand new micro-usb chip. I'm afraid there is something wrong with the controllers motherboard, I don't think I really have the skills to troubleshoot this myself unfortunately. Luckily the controller still charges through the bottom microphone port. Hopefully it will still work with my other controller, though I haven't installed that one yet because I still have to replace the joysticks on that one. Thanks so much for trying to help!

I just installed mine on my controller however it will not charge anymore? All that happens is one orange glow and then nothing. Tried multiple charging cables and chargers and still. I even replaced the port back to the original one and it still won't charge all of a sudden....
You sure battery is not full? Or does the light dont work when controller is on and working?

Hi everyone! I recently bought this mod bc i love usb c and i also love the ps4 controller. But im having some trouble connecting it. I replaced the connector and when i plug it in i hear the sound of something getting connected and disconnected to the pc. And idk how to trouble shoot. Please help!
Did you connect the latch on the flat cable connector? You can also drop me an email on the board. I can check if its missing any parts from shipping. Only i have seen that happend once.

The very least Sony could do is make the dualsense compatible with the ps4. I've always hated micro usb
Now put the internals of a PS5 controller in this PS4 controller to make the DualShock 5
That way you can use tye nostalgic PS4 controller on PS5 games with all benefits
