I love Absent just as I love all slow burn Sylosis songs. They have a few of those. Abandon still blows me away. Thorns and Godless Throne are absolute classics.
This album is absolutely phenomenal. I've loved these guys for a long time but this is absolutely the best thing they've ever done. If i had to pick one song it's probably Absent. That songs just hits so hard lyrically.
Deadwood has the nastiest bridge/breakdown. My favorite of the year probably. But I think Thorns is my favorite, there is this slight influence (at least from what I hear) of Some Melodeath like Dark tranquility or Insomnium. There's just something about that track that makes it a solid 11/10
The "gothic doom vibes" description of Thorns on Nuclear Blast's website hit the nail on the head. You can hear Josh's doom metal influences (Crowbar, Pallbearer, etc.) still present in his songwriting. The song reminds me of bands like Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride, Funeral, etc.
I think at this point, everyone knows that Sylosis will deliver no matter what. That being said, hearing Josh venture out with his vocals make me and everyone else happy! Absent makes the hair on my neck stand up, as does the chorus for Eye For an Eye!
This might sound weird, but Josh has got some serious Chester Bennington vibes going on in the chorus to Eye for an Eye. Just the melody and the way he adds grit to his singing reminds of stuff like the choruses to Crawling and Easier to Run.
I liked this conversation a lot but please be more mindful about interrupting your guests. You cut Josh off mid sentence multiple times, and I wanted to see where he was going with some of the statements.

Pariahs just has that groove, Thorns has that incredibly heavy solo intro 🔥 Bangers everywhere in the new album

I keep going back to the godless throne. Hope you guys have America tour soon
The host did a really great job here! Enjoyed this conversation, thanks!
i absolutely love Thorns
By favourite on the record, that opening riff is absolutely epic!
agree and it should've 100% been the lead single for the album
A Godless Throne is my fave. It sounds like it was ripped straight from Edge of the Earth/Conclusion of an Age era.
The new album has a fucking ton of Pantera and Machine Head sounding riffs. I absolutely love it.
And Testament vocal touches, particularly in Pariahs

My daughter also turned 1 in April of 2020. Cool.... def enjoyed being home with her also.
First thing I noticed about Absent was about how it would be the last song in other albums. Love the old stuff but I'm glad they keep changing
Exactly. Absent is a perfect breather in the middle of the album.
@@13guitard00d yeah it adds to the pacing
Josh is a great musician
Great to hear about what went into an album I've really been enjoying, thanks guys!

They failed to deliver on this album.
It's terrible.

Love this fucking album. ❤❤ Descent is probably my favorite song of there.
metal god
Absent IS the best track on the record.
Judas and Godless Throne are some of their best songs they've ever made. The others range from ok to great
thorns is positively the best.

Thorns is the only one that doesn't do it for me. I don't like the cleans on that track.
The sub genres are just stupid. Its just Metal.
