noobmaster117 That sequence is precisely what came to mind when I clicked on this video. Even in context, that boat ride is an intense and ambiguously menacing jaunt downstream. That bit came from _deep_ in the heart of Left Field.
Indeed, this was pretty upsetting in preschool as I recall vividly. I mean, he says that all of those kids were okay but doesn't offer any evidence. I'm quite confident that they died. The rest of the cast thought Gene had gone legitimately insane during the "Tunnel of Hell" Scene. On account of them not being told what was actually going to happen the the factory, aside from Wilder.
I could totally see that, when I was a kid that part scared the crap out of me and my sister and I had forgotten just how crazy it was until watching this. I just have this thought he finished this part they yell cut and Gene gets up cool and is like "well that was great guys right?" And just calmly walks away to get a sandwhich leaving the cast freaked the fuck out. Lol I did read that they didnt even meet him until filming started so alot of reactions are real
Supposedly, none of the other actors were told what Gene Wilder was going to do on the boat, and their reactions to his little ditty were entirely spontaneous...
Gene Wilder only agreed to do the film after making script changes. He said the film would be a flop if he played Wonka straight or silly. That the only way that the movie would be good was if you could never really trust Wonka. Hence the detached manic sarcastic and serious attitude that makes you seriously question if he's telling the truth or simply making a joke. "Where does that pipe go?!" _ _ really dude?! Cus last time I dropped, I thought I was drawing Fantasia ...as I watched it...!!! Like I was the writer , animator, director and voice artist! Clearly you know dick about good acid!
This is already a horror movie. The 2005 version actually feels more like a family movie than the original 1971 version. Johnny Depp's version didn't have scary tunnels that show lots of nightmarish images nor rooms with fizzy lifting drinks that pull you up 100 feet towards steel ceiling fans that chop you up to pieces unless you burp like 10 times to get back down.
***** I always thought of Gene Wilder as "Kindly Uncle Wonka" and Johnny Depp as "Creepy Uncle Willy." Having seen the former as a pup, and the latter as a gray-muzzle, I suspect my viewpoints are skewed b the vagaries of both ages! ^__^
Yeah the actors, directors, producers usually get all the acclaim. But it is the editor and the score composer that ties it all together to make the artform what it is.
Yeah I read in the book written by the director that the girl who played Violet thought the same thing. And the blue makeup on her face somehow started resurfacing when she returned to school shortly after filming that scene.
Very few people know that Leo played one of the kids in this movie. It was actually his first role as an actor. Maybe thats why he got a small part in this video.
Yeah I know. Even at age 3 his acting was incredible. Thats why he was nominated for an Oscar for best supporting Actor. It's a shme that he had to wait almost 40 more years to finally get it.
It should've been rated PG, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is like one of those creepypastas like Candle Cove or Happy Appy, except it's TRUE (not the events in the movie, but the fact that the movie exists and was aimed at children.) I was forced to watch that fucking movie once a year for 9 fucking years. It would never have happened if it wasn't rated PG.
Well scariness is a subjective thing and I understand that while you might not have been scared of it, some children were, which is why it should've been rated PG instead of G.
Ha, this is funny. I have a hard time imagining this as a horror, though, because I've seen the movie so many times. It normally doesn't have a creepy atmosphere, except for the part in that dark tunnel with Willy Wonka singing that song.
This was awesome! Usually when people do "recut horror trailers", there still seems to be a hint of the movie's original genre, but not with this one. This looked like a legit horror film, and if they actually did redo "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" as a horror film, I'd definitely go see it. (The original never creeped me out as a kid, not even the tunnel scene that so many people seemed to be traumatized by) Well done!
OMG!! I could not stop laughing I was born in 78' and of course' I have seen this many times. My mom was born in 43' and I can't wait to show her this all thanksgiving weekend hahahaha..... luv it!!
This movie use to scare me as a kid. After all, who wouldn't be scared, all those other kids simply disappear in the movie and never are shown again in the film. That's enough to freak out any kid.
This was a smash hit for me... because I actually watched this movie last night on Amazon Prime.. then thought to myself wonder if anyone could make a horror trailer out of this.. sure enough I'm on youtube and there it is... like youtube read my mind lmao
Love love love it!!! There's always been a dark undercurrent to this family film and you just amped it up a bit! Just take a listen to the musical notes between the sweeping strings being played in "Pure Imagination". Those notes that tell you there's something just around the corner……..
idk, i'm not buying it. I think a recut of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with Depp would also be pretty sick! Johnny Depp has that crazed serial killer look!
Except Johnny Depp acts like a nerdy crybaby in that movie. Gene Wilder's got horrifyingly intense eyeballs and shrieks like a banshee. As a kid his portrayal of wonka scared the bejeezus out of me and it STILL does to a degree.
This movie already was a horror film. The town's people killing each other and rioting in the street causing mayhem over a ticket. The Final destination styled ways the kids get kicked off the tour. Charlie and his grandpa nearly got blended by fan and no one was going to save them. Oddly enough, a children's movie.
Ooh, I love the intro scene you chose! As a child that visit to the factory gates at dusk always gave me a strange feeling. Something I remember throughout my life, even if I forgot many other parts of the film. Thank you for creating and sharing! ✌
I love how there's no alteration to the tunnel scene. The editor took one look and thought "yeah... this one's good as is"
I thought the same thing

I agree

If you actually think about what happens in the movie, it kind of already is secretly a horror film
Plot of the movie is a standard Agatha Christie novel. Definitely a horror.
I agree. It's a discuised horror film
It’s a comedy psychological horror
Why hasn't Leo won an Oscar for this??
Not too far removed from the actual movie.
I could imagine Gene Wilder's Wonka as a serial killer. He always looked like he had a screw loose anyway.
okoyehvo LMAO DONE

This actually makes Gene Wilder look certifiably insane
I mean, he was already very good at that vibe.
Lol. There was a doubt after "Frahnkenshtein?"
He was insane when he played a turtle in that made for TV ‘Alice in Wonderland’ remake
His ranting was scary!
The visuals didn't help any!

Nice! This video made this movie seem as creepy as the Johnny Depp remake. Oh, and Gene Wilder has the best shouting voice of any actor!
WILLY WONKA.

The scene with the tunnel is absolutely terrifying
was there a single frame of dicaprio near the end? lol

Yes it was!! It was very fast and I cant quite place the movie but it was definitely him!! LOL!!

I totally got Alice in Wonderland vibes when I first saw this movie.
The production team apparently genuinely thought gene had lost his mind during the boat scenes filming

I love how the boat scene didn't require any editing.
Why was a snippet of Leonardo di caprio in this?

Whoever cast Gene Wilder is a genius. He was born for this role.
