    As a punk I'm happy that you guys recognize the influences that our culture had on yours. I know of a lot of metalheads who try to distance themselves from punk as much as possible and completely ignore the influence it had on metal.

    Problem with metal as a whole is that a high number of the fanbase see it as a competition to one up other metalheads. I've said it many times, but metalheads are the nicest people in the world, however, they are the biggest arseholes in the world too.

      Metal Crusader is right here the term Rocker predates Steppen Wolf, and comes from how riders on 1950's and early 60's pre-unit British bikes had to reset the valve gear every couple of hundred miles and tighten everything back up because the bastards like to vibrate themselves apart, (I'm told the vibrations are fun for the missus- buts thats a different story) which is why all bikers at the time carried a rocker tools (feeler gauges) in their tool bags.

    Holy sh*t! At 0:46 the guy in the middle of the bottom row has The Dull Tool on the back of his bomber jacket. My grandfather John Bianco was the tailgunner on that plane. It was was a B-17. The Army Aircore made them change the name from the Dull Tool, because they said the name was a sexual refferance. Maybe thats why he's the only one with the Dull Tool on his back and all the others said the Disciples, he just hadnt updated his jacket yet. Wow, my heart dropped when I saw that photo. Cheers, and where the hell did you guys get that photo from? I had the only photo of my grandpop Bianco standing next to the Dull Tool, but have since lost that photo.

I got a variety of metal bands (Ex: Godflesh, Gojira, Fear Factory, etc.), but I also included a couple rock bands. \m/

    The patched up embroidered cut off denim or leather was around in the late 70's and early 80's, because I had one, admittedly mine was more influenced by 'biker' culture rather than metal but I was a baby biker with a moped (and later real bikes) at the time, who was in to heavy rock and metal, rather than a metal head/rocker who got into bikes. So as well as band patches (I still have a Rush and Maiden in England patches on my current leather cut off) mine in 1979/80 also included Motorcycle Action Group, rally & TT races badges and bike manufacturer patches.

    3:19 is False imo. Rob simply jumped on the Coattails of KISSs idea from their earlier years. KISS brought the Black n Leather with big studs & spikes the the mainstream gloabally, Not Halford Or Priest. In 1974 KISS were known for their leatehrs & studs, Look at Hotter than Hell album Cover 1974 , same with 1975, same with 1976 ... and in 1976 Preist just packed way their flashy phychodelic hippy garb in exchange for a more aggressive harder look. Kiss put Preist on the map bringing them out on their first Tour in the US ... Lota people Hated Kiss, while many more liked them .... regardless lets not ignore the facts of just how influential they were & how big of an Impact they had on the tons of bands in the 80s to come around, from WASP to Maiden to Lizzy Borden to Slayer to Metallica to Overkill & Anthrax & Pantera etc etc etc ....just tons more. imo

    • @97warlock
      @97warlock 3 года назад

      @Corey Stokely apperently you have it backwards. 1974 KISS was black & leather & studs. Hotter than hell album cover.Look at Alive ,Massive selling album from 1975 ,huuge album, theres the proof, what did Preist have..... a soda bottle cover & They wear almost hippy style clothes chifon with a Hat & long flowing tiedie ,.. 76 KISS Destroyer all in leather & studs ,another Massive selling album What did Priest have ...... a concrete building? They Tour with KISS from Feb 79 thru most of the year giving them some Big exposure. Then around 1979 at some point Preist gets a beefier more leathered up look. So I think this flips it back over to you cuz I made mt point.

      Let me rephrase: get with the times. Unless you have an apple shaped butt and long blond hair, nobody wants to imagine you in cut offs. I'm laughing when I imagine the audience that these metal heads would bring in talking about the history of cut-offs.
      Battle Vest is a significant upgrade that refers to the cultural history of the style, cut off is just a lazy placeholder that shouldn't have been expected to stick. I can apply the term to booty shorts with the pocket hanging out or to shirts and coats cut off below the sleeves, or really anything I cut short. There's no reason to attach yourself to such a half assed term aside from being a hipster who got themselves stuck in the past. There's definitely no reason to get that heated over the term changing after so long. It's not a vague bit of underground wear anymore, you're going to have to deal with that.
      It's a new age of new metal heads and we're not pinning Amon Amarth patches on our daisy dukes, so we call it a Battle Vest to give the item a bit more dignity and cultural weight and significance since it has been evolving longer than the 80's you seem to be stuck in.

Only those who cracked the ton (100mph) on a motorbike are entitled to wear the white silk scarf.

      @@janetgreenslade6478 lol are you fucking kidding me? I don't know if you know this but Hell's Angels were a cultural icon in the sixties and seventies. There were countless movies, articles and books made about them back then. Hell, Hunter S Thompson wrote a book about them. Those guys were security at the Woodstock. They also refused to wear leather cuts, instead they wore denim jackets with patches and pins all over. Considering their wild popularity in the 60s and 70s I would say they are more than anyone responsible for the creation of the battle vest.
