On a Calm glassy day, I ventured further out to a reef to try my luck for a few demersal fish.
Went home and had a great lunch with my catch on the BBQ

Looks like you had a great day mate. That big flathead was a fantastic catch. Definitely a fantastic table fish. Caught plenty as a kid in Tassie. Thats pretty all we caught.

Nice Flathead! The wings are the best part of the Flathead, make sure you eat them next time. My girls (2-6yr olds) go nuts for it! Nice little lunch time feed mate!

Hi Dom. I'm still watching you from Saigon.in Vietnam. I've been locked out of Australia for over 18 months now. At present things are tough. Covid has got a lot worse here. The Oz Govt has halved the number of citizens who can return. It also refuses to send us Oz Citizens any vaccines. All other nations are sending vaccines for their citizens trapped in Vietnam. We are donating vaccines to Indonesia and even to Vietnam, but none will be given to Oz citizens. Really bad news. Anyway, mate, thanks for cheering me up with your vids. I appreciate it.

We call that flattie a blue spot flattie. Not as good on the chew as the dusky. That's the trouble with catching fish all the time, ya get fussy...lol Nice vid bro

Completely different fish mate, you are referring to the Eastern blue spot (Platycephalus caruleopunctatus), this is its much bigger and far better eating cousin the Southern blue spotted (Platycephalus speculator), these guys are far better eating than Duskies, even Bartail and their cousins the Yellowtail are both imo better than Duskies, but all fatties are top notch cant really go wrong 🤙🏽
@@FishTuckerMan Old mates confusing the eastern blue with this fish which is the southern blue, southern blues are probably the best eating species of them all, cook the next one how you'd usually cook the bartails and you'll see why! Great vid Dom🤙🏽

They are a fish that can changes sex and ones over 50cm are pretty much big gals and breeders
Nothing wrong with it all but it's just something to think about for the future

I caught a pretty big flathead in Port Freo years ago. I let him go though.. was so big.. I just could not kill him... there was an Italian man who helped me get the fish off my line.. he wanted to keep my flathead.. I demanded he throw it back though. He thought I was nuts of course. I guess I am. Just could not kill that fish.

Largest one I’ve seen in W.A, was infront of Florear Surf Lifesaving Club, during a WAFB fishing Comp, the fellow competitor accidentally during a cast {he was unfamiliar with an Alvey}caught the line around a finger, & dropped only metres out. Just as he managed to wind the almost birds 🐦 nest back on the drum, to Everyone’s Amazement , he’d literally jagged a 71/2 lb’er , an Absolute Croc 🐊 of a size, almost Queensland sized✅
With the hit & Miss Familiaré Dom, as you’d know then, to just utilise your plotter, that’ll help with the decision to drop anchor or drift, on overcast, ør early/late pursuits✅
Good to s👀 SkiP, that you hooked the readied rig around the eyelet framing, rather than what atypical danglers do, & self sabotage, through the eyelets/guides✅😉👌🏻
