For stiff manual focus ring, but AF working fine, can I do the very first step only in order to clean and lube it for the manual focus ring stiffness?
Hi , no, no need to lube :) Just look at the 5:55 and you can figure out . Manual focus and Auto focus are connected fuctions which comes from one only unit - USM :)
on my lens the af is ok but when using manual focus it does not rotate easily needs more rotation for the focus meter to rotate also

What is the fix?
That's most likely the refraction-based optical encoder. It's just under the first lens group so access is easy using a #00 Phillips (7 screws total). Lenses abhor silicones, graphite and anything that sprays. Silicones creep, graphite spreads and sprays lack any control so keep them all far away!
That encoder is a transparent strip with a fine grove pattern and a transparent puck that rides on it with the same pattern. The pitch of the noise is from those grooves. With age the puck chatters from friction and the whine becomes noticeable. Coating with plastic lube will make it quiet but it can't function properly with anything that fills the grooves when air is needed. What has worked well is to put a tiny bit of Krytox on the puck and strip and then buff it out of the grooves using lint-free swabs. That leaves a fine, invisible layer of PFPE and PTFE so that the required air-gap still occurs and breaks the light. If the focus stutters after buffing---buff more!
@@antilogism Which part(s) are you referring to in the parts catalog? My 85mm 1.8 can manual focus, but in AF it stutters back and forth.

@@BradLawrence An interior component of "YG2-0057-000 D 1 FOCUSING UNIT" but it's accessible when the front lens assembly is lifted off.
It may just be contamination. Oil or grease on the encoder will interfere with the path that the light takes through the encoder. It will loose it's place and start hunting if that happens.
can u fix Yongnuo 85mm 1.8 Af turns off because the focus ring is rotated forcefully (forgot to turn off the AF)?

Hi you can search the problem in the motor of the diaphragm or positioning of the switch (diaphragm unit).

is it possible to remove just the front glass element without dismantling other parts? I just found a tiny fungus on top of the front lens element, and it really bothers me alot even though it does not have any ill effect on the photo
HI, you can try it , but after dissasembling the lens groups you need to make AXIS alignment which is imposible without equipment.

Hi, as you can see in the beginig of the video you see that the manual is not working. As you can read in the description also AF is not working :) The title was too long so i use the shorter title but demonstrate the problem :)
