Pedro my friend, great video/catch, Lufthansa is one of my favorite airlines, their safety, maintenance, pilot skills and training are impeccable, I never question any pilot(s) on a go around, if they don't feel right about a landing or departure then I would prefer they rely on their instincts to decide and those folks that are not pilots may not realize this, but hand flying is by feel/sense from experience, go around was a good call, especially at Madeira, outstanding catch my friend

In my opinion, there is nothing especial about.
Just a shame their customer products aren’t as good as their piloting

we were on this plane, it was a never ending trip. first the hours of circling over the airport and then the go-around just before landing. the flight on monday was canceled and our flight on tuesday was also unsuccessful. we circled again for 2 hours and then had to go to faro to refuel and back to Munich. we have now canceled our vacation.
Sad that that happened to you, we had some really strange days here in Madeira, normally is not like this, hope you can visit us soon!
The oldest people say that we should never antagonize a saint. Our airport was from the beginning called Santa Catarina airport, to which the name of the saint was removed to put the name of a football player. The curse has been cast, this airport will never have peace and quiet!
@@josecarvalho9388 I've arrived in Madeira many times as a passenger in an aircraft without a problem. It should be recognised that due to the lack of flat land Madeira airport has masterfully extended its single runway out over the ocean. That means there are only two directions in which to land. If there are strong crosswinds that makes landing difficult and really tests the skills of the pilots. I can't wait to get back.
Same with us! We were on one of the next planes and diverted in the end. We reached Madeira 4 days later as planned.

Your welcome and I think because of the crosswinds I think they were afraid of the tail strike that could happen but well done that was amazing
I've experienced two go arounds. One landing at LaGuardia in NYC and one landing in Dallas. Very weird sensation because you're preparing for landing and then all of a sudden the engines spool up fast and you're taking off.

More than 10 years ago I had have (as a passenger of course) a late go around like this one in Zürich/Switzerland. The reason was horrible. Traffic on the runway, there was a airplane which sould not be there. Some people started screaming. I felt good, I love to go around in a airplane, love the engine power. Some years later I had have another one while approaching Düsseldorf/Germany, but much earlier. The reason was strong winds from the side, I think more than 40 knots

Yes, they have several flights from Frankfurt and Munich, normally with these 321's. Quite nice to watch!

The sister of my wife was on board of this flight. When she told me some weeks ago to travel to Madeira i informed her that Funchal airport is one of the most difficult airport where the pilots need a special training. She didn't know that before. But even i didn't expect such problems. Three days and later and after the third flight she arrived at funchal an had a nice time in Madeira.
The landing approach didn't look so bad before it was disrupted.
This is not common here in Madeira, perhaps the worst day this year, shea had bad luck!
Love the 0:58 when the pilot decides NO GO...then puts the pedal to the metal. Wise decision.

I was in that plane. We tried twice to land and than back to Frankfurt. On Monday flight was canceled. We tried again in Tuesday. The same thing ...we can not land. Again back to Germany. Finaly we landed on Wednsday night (Lufthansa put all of us on Portugese TAP).
It's fighting even in the climb.
