He's not heartbroken because the song starts out about someone who brings light into his life and makes him smile. It's about sticking with someone (or something) that others might not understand or warn you about. He seems to also be saying yes a volcano can be destructive but he doesn't care and is willing to take the chance. I don't know. That's just my take on it.
