I can only view this as a very passionate love song. I've seen some people saying it's about a toxic relationship and about someone who is bad for him and hurts him but I don't agree at all. I think that it's rather about true love. It seems to me that the person he wrote this song about is someone who is scared. Scared of being loved, scared of intimacy, scared of being hurt as well as hurting others and as a result of those fears that person just doesn't really let people in. That said, I think that Han wrote this as a way of reassuring them, of letting them know that even if they did end up hurting him, he wouldn't go away and that he will love them forever no matter what.
But yeah, I'm absolutely OBSESSED and IN LOVE with this song and this is my own interpretation of it. Also, whoever that person is, they're very lucky to have someone (and not just anyone but THE Han Jisung) feeling this way towards them.
That’s what I got from it too! Like he’s talking about someone who’s been emotionally damaged and push people away because of it but he’s willing to stick it out because of his intense love for that person.

Yes, agree with you too! True love DOES and can really be very painful. I say this as someone who's happily partnered for 30 years this year. To love someone that fiercely and deeply..... Han's lyrics certainly sound to me like someone in true, mad, deep love. There's fear and uncertainty (if it comes from within your self and nothing to do with the other person doing that to you) but in a perfect-fit relationship, you get to work all that stuff out! I don't get toxic at all from these lyrics, especially when put in the context of Han's BBL msg's about it

I feel like the volcano could also be his passion for creating music in this industry. On one hand he is hurt by it, on the other hand he loves it too much to ever run away from it.
Han's songwriting gets me every time. He is an amazing rapper/singer/dancer/everything, but his lyrics always really affect me.
Same. His songs hit different.
I interpret this song in a lot of ways but my fav is Volcano being the final part, more like a conclusion, of all of Han's solo songs. If you think about it, every song could be a part of a story where Han (or a character whose pov are the lyrics written in) goes through a maturative journey exploring the feeling of love (all types of love) and the hardships that come with it. (The releases are not in order, so it is a bit forced, but, hey! we can interpret art in different ways.)
In RUN, Han wants to go away from where he was, a place that suffocated him. He wants to be free and go to a better place, the "place of his dreams".
In ALIEN, he arrives at this new place, full of expectations, but he feels lost and lonely. Then he wish/asks for someone to reach out and help him, but he is forced to grow up on his own, knowing that he is "still not perfect"
Then, in CLOSE, he meets someone, who completely blows his mind, and starts wanting to know everything about them. It's the first time he feels this way, so he falls for them but does not know how to deal with those feelings and keeps on letting the nervousness get in the way.
There is kinda a *time skip*, and then in HAPPY, Han talks about how they (Han and the other person) were happy, but his worries got the best of him and made him push the other person away by hurting them. Han admits its his fault and hopes they are happy even if its not with him, but secretly wish them back.
And then, ofc, WISH YOU BACK, he remember those good moments with the other person and feels regret for what he did. He is hurting and asks them to come back to him so everything can go back as it was.
So, VOLCANO feels like the end of Han's emotional journey with this person. He tells them that it's okay to be hurting, that he is gonna protect them. He recalls how this person helped him in his worst moments so now they can hurt him and he wouldnt mind because Han needs them more than anything, bc that person is everything he wants and cant live without them.
You could also add songs written by Han like Slump, Secret Secret, Chill, Fairytale, etc, and them all could fit in the storyline as well, but i feel his solos are more accurate.

OMG yes, that is a very great interpretation of Volcano. I was transfixed with how he addresses loving this person as "like a sin".. despite its "evil", but it's also a love that can melt at a temperature when touched (this is so poetic my heart hurts each time he sang this part).
If the volcano is himself, then loving and hugging despite all the burns scars and pain is so Han ;_;

In the lyrics, Han describes the object of his affection as a Sin. In Korean "Sin" (pronounced Shin) means God or spirits. Lee Know has said that Han calls him a God.
Also Changbin does not hug Han, but that one time when Miroh one them their first music show award, Changbin hugged Han and Han said he was surprised that his hugs were so warm. Could the song be about his relationship with Changbin or Lee Know or both?
They are like brothers.

@@TeddyGreyOS he did say on bubble that the song is about someone who “inspires him in music and even interviews” and that we should be able to figure it out since he gave us all the info to do so. so i definitely believe it’s one of those. they’re also the most emotionally closed off/private members as far as we’ve seen which would make sense with the lyrics.

This really hit me as a metaphor for music and the fame. The fans, the hard work and hours the job they have requires. The stress, the anxiety. But it all being worth it in the end.
And then there's the place in my brain where it sounds like he could be talking about Lee Know, Chan, or Changbin. As much as they could potentially have their moments and fight, and maybe someone goes off... but in the end, they don't scare him because they are brothers and they are all there to take care of each other.
Then of course there's the romantic love angle.... so, only Han really knows. 😊

i personally think its either ab the skz members as a whole , or in particular when i first listened to it lee know came to mind, i just see a few lyrics in it that really reminded me of the two of them
but there are many interpretations to this song , thats just me personally, as someone who watches alot of minsung content, but its really emotive and his lyrics are just simply beautiful and i think a lot of people can relate to it. hannie makes me feel so safe, this song just comforts me so much

Whoever he’s singing about, they’re his Volcano. We all need to find our volcano and feel this type of love, whatever it is, it’s true love. Compassionate love. Man probably watched a Kdrama and thought of this, but it’s literally a masterpiece and he’s done so well
In my mind this song represents a real passionate love between two people who can share their burdens and their problems with each other no matter how tough or heavy it gets. They both have been shunned by others and have found a comfort in their similarities and their shared scars and flaws, that’s why their so willing to be burned and go through troubles to comfort each other. One of the most beautiful tracks han has made to date tbh

I just remembered a volcano fact from highschool🤣, if not in there really destructive phase with spewing lava and stuff volcanoes leave behind really fertile ground and conditions for their environment to thrive in which is why humans take the risk of being close to them because 99% of the time they have the benefits.
This willingness to accept certain flaws and risks in a relationship because you know you will thrive and have a better life because of the person you are with could also be a metaphor.

Not gonna lie, i teared up a lil listen to this and while reading the lyrics. I'm definitely the volcano in my relationship. I have been hurt a lot to the point where I hurt others and even hurt myself bc i didn't know how to tell ppl why i was in pain. I didn't know how to process it nor did i learn how to let things go. I was brought up to shut up about my feelings and deal with it on my own. If i tried to open up id get told to stop playing victim or im just trying to get attention. Any time i cried i was called a baby and that they'd give me something to cry about if i didn't knock it off. I developed anxiety and depression from years of this and other forms of abuse. I finally exploded one day and tried to unalive myself putting me in a mental ward. The abuse continued and got worse over time. Then i met my husband and everything changed. He and his family helped me so much. I got into therapy and got the help i needed. Others left me when they couldn't handle me and my demons. He accepted me along with my issues and held my hand through it. Bc of him, i was able to start healing. I am forever grateful to him.

Probably Chan and Binnie tbh but it could be the others like Lee Know and Hyunjin too. He feels loved, he feels cherished even though he lashed out in the beginning. They stayed by him, they embraced him and now when he feels like he's crashing and burning or being washed by the waves he has someone(s) that will go through it with him.
In that context, the volcano that hurts people but the one people will still embrace, still stay with, would be him. Hans the volcano

I haven’t finished the video yet but I’d like to say that some who have been hurt by others ( apart from their friend/partner) in the past, can at times, project and hurt those closest to them, unintentionally. Those ppl can be tough to stick by, even though we know they do love us. ESP if they think they’re not worth loving. We make a choice to stay or go. Kind of what I’m taking from Han’s words. Purely based on my own experiences with close loved ones. We make a choice to take the good with the bad (within reason, of course). If the song is Han referring to himself, I love that he’s expressing self awareness. So important. 🖤 He’s an artist.

I interpreted this as loving someone who struggles with mental illness- he’ll never leave her even if she lashes out and he craves the fire that makes her who she is, even if everyone else abandons her for it.

What I got from the lyrics is that even at a person's worst, even if you lash out and hurt me, i'll still embrace you. Even when other people run away from you I will embrace you, I won't run away. So the person of interest is a volcano, just like everyone. When they aren't erupting they are peaceful. But everyone has dark moments in their life where you tend to push people away or lash out at people. I think he is saying even in the dark times when you are pushing people away I will still be here for you. That's just my take though.
Han is a genius. He really is. Both musically and lyrically. Even if you don't understand the lyrics his songs just have a way of hitting you right in the soul.
Volcano by Han clearly to answer Limbo by Lee Know, no doubt. Here’s further explanation:
Volcano is about confessing their love more to a person that’s hurt more like a concept of It’s okay not to be okay kinda vibe.
*I’ll embrace the wounds you shed*
It’s mean han will always be there for ‘the person’ even at their lowest, he will be there and support the other. Same goes for this lyrics:
*Unlike those who run away from you, I’ll embrace you*
*To me, you’re already a sin*
This could mean so many things. Like you said it can be refer as the sin of being in the relationship and it also can be meant as the other person is to good to be true to accept his love.
*Hug my body Even if it’s hurt, it’s okay*
This lyrics sound tricky, but I’m pretty sure he meant that it’s okay to be hurt, just hug my body as comfort. The translation might switch it a bit making it sound a bit toxic in english. You can see the word ‘Even’ the E is in capital letter it’s mean the start of the word. Read the words separately and you will see it make more sense.
Limbo is about him wishing to confess but instead he can only quietly confess to himself.
My boy to scared to confess, the lyrics of:
*‘I know one word would make a change, the word I could not say’*
shows he clearly regret not confessing till now.
He keep trying to call ‘the person’ to confess as the lyrics said:
*‘So that I won’t be in pain in the dream, I’ll call quietly’.*
At the end, he change it to:
*‘So that you won’t be in pain in that dream, I’ll call quietly’*
means he knows the other person felt the same way but there’s a wall between them or the uncertainty of lee know’s side will confuse the other person as whether eo feeling the same way.

I love this song.....everytime I hear it as well as see the lyrics....the only thing I can think is that it's totally about Lee Know. My opinion and we will probably never know for sure.
stray kids write songs in gender neutral terms and even tho 3racha maybe predebut used she/her pronouns and “she’s hot “ in wow or whatever but they use “you” and “they” etc even when they’re covering songs like “ i’ll be your man” on kingdom they change the lyrics to make it more inclusive for everyone so we stays would appreciate it if you used “person” and “they/them/their” instead of “she/her” “woman” since we don’t know who the songs are about and especially since he could mean fans by “you” he could mean people close to him around him /his members /family anyone really doesn’t have to be a significant other or girlfriend etc so just to be more respectful towards him since he didn’t talk or hint towards the gender of the person (i’m not attacking you or saying you have to i’m just suggesting since i know stray kids prefer not using gender specific terms etc ) but yea thanks for the reaction i loved this song but then again when has han ever underwhelmed or disappointed us he’s so impressive (also if there any my days reading this comment please tell me this gives you kinda guard you by young k vibes not that they’re similar in anyway but just in the “i want to protect you” vibe it gives off )

I really love this track! I know I am in the minority, but I wish it had a little more raw vocals and less auto tune. Just because he has such a beautiful voice! I don’t dislike the auto tune, just personal preference is the natural vocals. Either way, the talent just oozes from Han!

I agree! His voice is so amazing, but I think autotune is like his signature in all his earlier songs. Love all his songs but not a fan of it and have to tune it out and listen past it!
I remember seeing some tweet Han tweeted (just calling it a tweet bc not sure what else to call it but just bc I said tweet doesn't mean it's twitter) where he said this one line in his song was referring to a specific person that he knows and is very close to and that all stays will know who he's talking about and if they don't then they are a pabo. Obviously it's about Lee Know/Minho. There are 2 lines I instantly thought of Lee Know/Minho when he sang them.
1) To me you're already a sin, I can't refuse because you're sweeter than evil.
(This is Lee Know. We all know he's the greatest sweet evil trickster! But we can't help but love him!)
2) Unlike those who run away from you, I'll embrace you.
(This is so true. All the members run away from Lee Know because they're like he's gonna destroy me! Only Han doesn't do this because he knows Lee Know won't 'hurt' him.)
Also when I say 'hurt' I don't REALLY mean hurt, I mean playful acts of messing around. If you are a stay you know what I mean.

To me this can have a few meanings as I’ve read the lyrics a lot but the one that stands out to me is codependency in a toxic relationship to me I view it as the other person has had issues and has their own wounds and in turn lashes out (maybe not even intentionally) and it hurts Han but that same person had helped him out of a dark period in his life and one of the things with codependency is that you stay in relationships that aren’t the healthiest because you don’t want to feel that abandonment. I get that feeling from “don’t wanna go back back back” like him being like I don’t wanna go back to how I felt before you helped me and with the line “I’ll give you everything” trying to stay in the persons life out of fear of being abandoned. Then you have lines like “if you like, I can be anything” to me is another attribute of codependency where we need to feel needed in anyway even if it’s enabling someone to do something hurtful. Like if you need to lash out at me to feel better that’s fine because at least I’m helping (even though it hurts him). And the line where he’s say “It’s okay to hurt, I’ll embrace the wounds you shed” to me this is implying that either 1) they lash out without thinking and later regret it or 2) they person apologized and said it won’t happen again (which is often the case in abusive relationships and then it does happen again) then you e got the lyrics “unlike those who run away from you, I’ll embrace you” which is like knowing that a lot of people wouldn’t put themselves through the hurt that he is to stay and he wants to stay because he wants to give the person the comfort they gave him. Then later in the chorus you have “even if I go back a hundred times, my choice is always you” this could mean like even if he’d go back in time he’d still choose this person or to me it was more like the love I’ve felt when you don’t lash out and hurt me is something I don’t want to let go of I’ll always come back because you apologized and I wanna believe that things will work out. This is obviously my own interpretation because I heavily related to a lot of the lyrics with my past and they reminded me a lot of how I used to think and act. But I also saw an interpretation that I really like of someone tying together a bunch of his solo songs into a narrative because to me that makes an insane amount of sense too.
This song made me cry a hundred times and eyes are the windows to the soul. Han nailed this well done.

I can’t believe how late I am to this party😂 I think what I took away from it was just straight up passionate love. Whether that be romantic/platonic. At the beginning he said they hugged him and it was the first time he felt that kind of emotion. They could see the wounds on his heart. The very first time I heard it I immediately thought about LeeKnow. They have gone through a lot together and say time and time again that they are soulmates. To me this is just about love, it doesn't have to be the romantic love, it could also be brotherly love, the love for friends or just that special person that you can not see your life being without.
