@omgrobbiee yes, it is used, because it depends what you want to say: maman a acheté des fleurs it is fact when you say les fleurs ont été achetées par maman, you want to insist on the fact that this is Mummy who bought the flowers and not your sister for example. it is a bit less used in French, but it is correct 100%
@StLennyBruce I understand but in this case "on" is like "one" or someone" in English and not "we" because we are talking of someone we don't know, bye bye
First, thanks for all of the great videos that you have been posting! Also, at the end of this video you say, "I hope you understand now better ... ". May I suggest saying something like, "I hope you have a better understanding of ... now," or, " I hope you understand it better now."
Même si la vidéo est plus ancienne, c'est toujours très bien fait. . ...mais encore une chose? (Does "Bien lu", in English "well read" which means sharp, smart, etc). Cette expression a-t-elle un sens en français ? Merci, pour tout ce beau travail. ~Inertia
Thank you for your response. Does this kind of sentence come naturally on your tongue or does it sound somewhat awkward? In English it's perfectly correct to use the passive continuous. In Russian it's common as well when a suitable context presents itself.
So for 'Le basket se joue à cinq', does 'à' mean 'by' or 'with' because to play a sport in French is 'jouer à'? If so, then does 'à' stay because 'à cinq' is an inversion of 'cinq joue à/au'? If that's the case, then would 'Le foot se joue à 10' work out?
Merci beaucoup. Une question s'il te plaît. 1. When you say that, "the pie what eaten, on a mangé la tarte does this not also mean we are the pie. How would you know if a person is referring to someone or we with such a sentence or does it just depend on context? 2. Le basketball est joué à 5. Is it wrong if I say le basket est joué à 5 joueurs ou le basket est joué avec 5 joueurs or is this not necessary. Merci d'avance

Merci - j'aime bien les conseils pour éviter la voix passive pour traduire de façon plus idiomatique. C'est utile pour mes étudiants A level.
@pierrotgilbert sorry to read that, I will see what I can do

peut-être "qu'il est cultivé , je suis très cultivé" ou"je suis très instruit ?" n'importe lequel d'entre eux ? Merci.

How to express the passive CONTINUOUS form in French? For example, in a
sentence "This house is BEING built by foreign workers".
Cette maison est en train d'être construite par des ouvriers étrangers
Thank you for your response.
Does this kind of sentence come naturally on your tongue or does it sound somewhat awkward?
In English it's perfectly correct to use the passive continuous. In Russian it's common as well when a suitable context presents itself.
this structure is a bit heavy in French, we would say: Ce sont des ouvriers étrangers qui sont en train de faire la maison
Merci beaucoup!

Joseph K here à means avec, se joue avec 5 joueurs or à 5 joueurs
oh okay ah so u can use avec instead of à if u prefer I see now thank you! :D
Don't we say "The book was read by Charlotte" ?? isn't the rule says that the verb to be must be in the past form ??

Amine Amaach a été lu, past or est lu, present

Abbas Pushtoon parfait
I'm alway hesitant to use "on" for the passive v oice, because I'm so used to it meaning "we".

Abbas Pushtoon pas au présent
Merci pour la réponse tres vite 😊
