1:33) Train #2 - Same train chased to Washington Street
2:23) Amtrak P42DC #42 in downtown San Diego, CA.
3:31) Train #3) - Amtrak #573
4:34) Train #4) - Same train chased to Sorrento Valley.
5:50) Train #5) - chased to Cannon rd in Carlsbad, CA.
7:06) Train #6) - Amtrak #572 with the amfleet set slowing down to meet up with 573!
F59PHI #456 leading, and F40PH #90230 trailing on the back.
7:42) Train #7) - Amtrak #573 with nice horn action coming into San Juan Capistrano!
8:55) Train #8) - Amtrak #580, with F59PHI #455 leading again, and flying through Sand Canyon in Irvine, CA.
9:30) Train #9) Same train chased to San Juan Capistrano.
11:20) Train #10) Amtrak #591, with the final shot - P42DC #42 LEADING with AWESOME HORN, and flying through the Carlsbad Village coaster station!

Great train videos of the California Amtrak Pacific Surfliners, the Coaster, Metrolink commuter trains, the Coast Starlight, ,the Southwest Chief, & all trains in California. In the future when I'm back in the San Diego area, I will be riding on the Pacific Surfliners again between San Diego, Los Angeles & Oxnard.

I saw 42 once on the city of New Orleans trailing behind another normal P42DC and I saw 156 twice on the city of new orleans and on the cresent and 66 on the city of new Orleans also and 184 on the southwest chief

The California zephyr is the most beautiful cross country trip. Went from new York to Utah in 2020 and back last month. Definitely going to take the trip again but in its entirety.

why does it require 2 powerful diesel locomotives to pull a 10 car train. what is the reason for the same
Ganesh Parikh They are not powerful. The frieght trains are powerful. The reason why they need 2 locomotives is because the Surfliner on the front has a weak-ish enginre and the WWII Pearl Harbor Amtrak P42 has a stronger engine than the Surfliner, so the P42 is helping the Surfliner pull the 10 passenger cars. And the locomotives generate the electricity for the 10 passenger cars.
U.S.S.Rball • An F59PHI can handle the train by itself but is limited by its HEP generator, which has trouble putting out the electricity required for 10 cars. 3200 horsepower is plenty. Amtrak #42 was there to help with HEP, for show, and to help with push-pull. Usually private railcars just get tacked on the end of the train in pull mode then switched to the front and coupled to the nose of the pushing locomotive for the return trip in push mode. But since this set was making multiple trips, Amtrak eliminated switching moves by running a second locomotive. It would have been a hassle to keep running switch moves, and the Cab car is unsafe to attempt operation from with extra cars limiting your view.

Dec 3, 2016, "Pearl Harbor Day Troop Train" Fullerton schedule: Southbound- 7:52 AM. Return Northbound- 12:30 PM. / Second trip: Southbound- 3:32 PM, Return Northbound- 8:30PM. Why not board in Fullerton? It's more fun to ride and meet the WWII Vets , while enjoying the journey back to Christmas, 1941.

How do you learn the train names
The name of the trains are on the side of the locomotive for example Norfolk Southern
You can also check your local timetable for passenger trains and Amtrak trains alike. For freight, you'll need a scanner/radio and some friends if you railfan with them. For me, I do both buses and trains.

We here in the US have an odd mix of both Diesel and Electric. More of Diesel is used for long distance (> 1000 miles or 1609.34km, but Electric is Used on the North East Corridor and mostly Light rail systems. However, the North East Corridor, does contain the United States only High Speed Train (electric) The Acela Express which on some stretches of track can hit 150 MPH or 241.402 KM/H

This is one thing that our politicians often forget. Railroads, and Amtrak in particular, are essential to national defense. Amtrak can provide troop transport as the railroads did during WWII. Defunding Amtrak degrades this capability. Relying on air transport only is nonsensical.

Great video of US Trains. One thing, USA is a developed country and still the train engine runs on deisel. They should have electrified the railway lines, so that they can depend more on clean energy and reduce the use of hydrocarbons. Electrified railway lines and electric locomotive are highly efficient and the train runs faster in these tracks. Reduction of usage of hydrocarbons, means less damage to climate and more environment friendly. Thanks
