Aam Aadmi Party leader and Ludhiana West MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi, 57, died of a gu.ns.hot wound he sustained when his licensed pis.tol allegedly went off while he was cleaning it, police Saturday said. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
Commissioner of Police Kuldeep Singh Chahal said that Gogi received a gu.ns.hot injury in his head. “The bullet pierced Gogi’s temple. He was taken to the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dea.d on arrival,” Chahal said.
According to AAP’s Punjab unit chief Aman Arora, the incident took place when Gogi was cleaning his pistol late Friday night at his residence in Ghumar Mandi area. Arora, who met Gogi’s grieving family in Ludhiana, said the MLA would clean the pi.st.ol everyday. “While he was doing so Friday night, it got fired accidentally and claimed his life,” Arora said.
