    If it wasn't for the Gurkas I probably would not exist. During WWII my grandfather was captured by the Japanese and was on his death march to a concentration camp. The Gurkas ambushed the Japanese soldiers and rescued my Grandfather. I thank the Gurkas from the bottom of my heart.

    I am a ordinary British citizen.....I have never served in her majesty's armed service....But the respect I hold for the Ghurkhas and the gratitude I owe holds no bounds......My family and grandchildren sleep in peace every night because of your contribution to keeping my nation free from oppression and tyranny..........Thank You.

      ... but a lot of kids in the Middle East, Afghanistan etc can not sleep in peace because of the Western Armies (USA, UK, NATO etc) terrifying that part of the world. The brave Gurkha Warriors do not wanna get dragged into the problems which they don't wanna get into in the first place.

    british government were very smart to have a treaty with nepalese government then, by doing that, they not only saved the armies (both british and nepalese) from being dead but they also won lots of battle ,,if it wasnt for that treaty there would have been a great animosity , they learned about the true bravery of gurkhas when it didnt turn out really well when they wanted to capture nepal for the resources and all, something that was not mentioned by this gentle man, btw very delightful lecture,,

    they weren't copying the british by wearing red jackets, white belts and giving orders in english. Prithvi Narayan Shah was very, very clever and far-sighted. He did so because he wanted themselves to be mistaken for the british so that they would be blamed instead of us.
    Another tale of Gurkha cunningness; when the chinese invaded us, gorkhali army were heavily outnumbered. but the chinese forces were yet to reach us (i think they were marching down the mountain towards us). it was night time and to our advantage. gorkhalis gathered all the bulls and buffalos in the kingdom, tied torches on their horns and let them run amok towards the chinese, and the entire army ran among them carrying torches, shouting battle cries. they also tied torches to the trees. the chinese believed THEY were outnumbered and retreated.

      When did the Chinese invade Gurkha's land? May I know the name of the conflict?

    • @sakar.sthapa
      @sakar.sthapa 9 лет назад +7

      Anh Quan Chu Sino-Nepalese War, 1788. i'm not sure if it was gorkha's land or gorkha-occupied/controlled land though. Gorkhalis started the war, but it was with Tibet, China later decided to intervene.
      and there was another war with Tibet in 1855, the 'Nepalese-Tibetan War'. both have wikipedia entries if u want to know more.

    Hopefully, there wil be a movie about Prithivi Narayan Shah and TV episodes like The Game of thrones about his ancestors and the Ranas till Gyanendra. How cool would it be?
    He is right about Nepal being a failed state though. Since Prachanda and his gang of hooligans took over Nepal and other political parties followed him Nepal is going down the drain and it will be downhil till Prachanda and his gang are kicked out.

    no, thank you. First the Brits opened fire to Nepal from five different fronts, of which Nepal lost three. That lead to Sugauli Treaty 1816 and Nepal lost one third of its land to British India Company. While leaving India, Brits did not return back our land. These days the land belongs to India. We call the total territory of Nepal before British invasion 'Greater Nepal' and aspire to bring that land to justice.

During the two Great Wars there were so many Gurkhas killed and missing and finally there was no accountability. Can you please highlight on all those matters ?

    I don't get it. All you need to do is cut MP's expense accounts by 5%, make them pay for the things ordinary peasants pay for and....VIOLA, a Ghurkha battalion for the use of. Then again, there is more honour in a Ghurkha's nail clippings than those jackals in Westminster.

    His speech is 30 % wrong. No Nepali flee from anybody or from anywhere. Nepali history is one of the oldest civilization . Even older than chinese and Indian. India was unified by british. And modern India is not even older than my great grandfather. Many of outside world didnt knew about Nepalese civilization because Nepal was never colonized and information of our diverse culture and languages has never been spread outside world.
