Madvocate loving any film challenge accepted and completed? What is this? The debate surrounding The Room has caused quite a bit of a divide in the film community for generations, but is it really as bad as people say? After all, it tackles lots of ideas and themes, so it simply can't be, right? I invite you all to sit back and turn your brains off while I explain to you why I haven't stopped thinking about this movie, and why I think it's incredible (IN MY OPINION).

Apologies to the few who became a patron before this video released, but rest assured names will appear on future videos' credits from now on. And yes, I am planning on making this a series, but each video will be in a different style 👀
No thanks, I enjoy being watched by creeps through my own webcam 😂
I wonder what you think about Glass by Shyamalan. A lot of people didn't like it but I think it's beautifully done and it has great themes. Never really understood all the hate towards it 🤷♂️
When will you post flash is insuf inconsist 3
Would have been a Patreon if I had the money, i love your channel
Still waiting for that dumbest man alive season 3
The quote “oh hi mark” is a true masterpiece. The word “oh” emphasizes his surprise on seeing his close friend. The word “hi” instead of “hello” describes how normal things can be simplified in our society.
fantastic and inspirational analysis
Uh uhh uhhh he’s right
And “mark” is of course the target of this praise, however it should be noted that mark can be used as a verb, not just a name. Tommy is not only greeting his dear friend in this iconic line but is also telling us, the audience, to take note or “mark” if you will this miracle of cinema. Bravo Tommy
Underrated
And "mark" is because the mark of his comment is his friend, Mark. So deep.
Madvocate gets possessed by the ghost of Hi Top's dignity.
conspiracy theory: madvocate secretly is alex hunter
You say that like HiTop’s dignity ever existed
@@charmandyorton006 I assume that's the joke
For something to be a ghost, it must first exist and passed, exactly what happened to HiTop's dignity
Good job saying “In my opinion” every 30 seconds really makes this seem authentic.
I was thinking the same
But that’s just your opinion
"Subjectivity is implied." - Josef Sanderson.
It's even funnier if you listen close enough I believe it's a cut edited that he puts every time he wants to, each sounds so similar it's not something he repeats every time

The Room is a modern masterpiece that was ahead of its time
Only because the intelligence of the world is rapidly declining.
@@AlejoConejo-vb8ln Yeah, quite saddening how it is better than most things Netflix is serving out lately.
"Ha ha ha. What a story Miracles."
Is this intentionally circular logic, because if it’s, well played sir.
The Room is a safe place
Making a video essay about The Room and having the soundtrack of the video game The Room was a masterful choice XD
I like to believe HitTop watched this and thought "Glad to see you growing as a critic"
UNDERRATED COMMENT
Just realized this was a parody. As soon as you said, “I don’t care about plot or logic”, I was like, yeah Mad is taking the piss.
The empty filler, the “in my opinion” comments, and the words appearing on the screen as you say them to add more “drama”. This is the Madvocate trolling we need more of.
Would love to see you make a nice video on how to make a speedster that actually makes sense. Or Speedster villains that actually make sense.
Seconded
I couldn’t agree more, although I knew this was a parody based on the title alone. Mad is just too consistent with his standards to see the title unironically
The best parodies are the ones you don’t instantly realize are parodies.
I realized it at the start to be honest. :D
This is not a parody Man 🤦♂️
You have just not matured
Watch the movie again with a transcended mind 🙏
I can’t tell exactly which of the 5 dozen video essayist this is parodying but it’s hilarious.
All of them.
...but definitely Hitop
@@CptnCardboard could definitely tell it was hitop
Best parody of how bad HiTop and others like him argue be it bad movies or misinterpretations of what actually happened. My favorite part was the white text on a bright background hiding what was said... an actual mistake some of them make. Little stuff that gradually comments on how bad it is. Also, any chance of more Invincible content?
"But it's my opinion"🤡
@@waseem__600 Opinions are worthless in both the authority and simpleton. All that people value are perspective and sources to examine. Granted few are willing to dig into it, but more than welcoming to share it.
The word meme is legendary
Guys like hi tops can give good takes but they lack self awareness.
I’m capable of admitting that a bad movie that I like is bad. When I may be in the minority of an opinion, or just when something may be a stretch but I still like to imagine it.
Self awareness is the key to this kind of video interpretation format thing… knowing when what you’re saying may be nonsense. And you don’t allow yourself to get high on your own fumes.
The Thumbnail is more Browntable than Hi top
A while back I decided to compare The Last Jedi to The Room just for a bit of fun. I broke each film down, looking at their themes, characters, and plot, and how well each film executes them. My conclusion:
Themes - The Room seems to have a theme focusing on the consequences of hurting those you love. This is reinforced by Mark's reluctance to help Lisa cheat on Johnny, and Danny's choice to hide his debts to the drug dealer. We see the fallout of these decisions throughout the film. Compare this to TLJ's theme of "failure is the greatest teacher" by asking this: Name a character, point out where they failed, and what they learned from said failure. Rey doesn't seem to learn anything she didn't already know, Kylo just gets mad, and Poe is punished. None of these characters are shown to grow from their failure, they just move on with the plot.
Characters - Say what you will about The Room, it does have consistent characterization. Johnny loves and trusts his friends and family to such an extent that he doesn't even lock his door. Lisa seems to be a selfish opportunist, who's primary interest is her own happiness, and will do anything to get it. Mark cares for his friends, but doesn't have the heart to tell them certain truths that might hurt them. Compare this to TLJ, where Kylo Ren flip flops between wanting to "kill the past" and being sentimental about it, and Rey being completely unaware of information that is critical to her character, until it is relevant and she apparently knew it all along.
Plot - The plot of The Room is coherent enough for the average person to follow what happens in its story. Yes, there are some scenes that don't add much to further the plot (Lisa's mother's breast cancer doesn't really go anywhere), but they aren't so drastically separated from the main story that it prompts confusion... which is cannot be said for The Last Jedi. Finn and Rose's subplot is not only nonsensical, but it has no effect on the larger plot, and can end up confusing general audience members.
Nope, you are nitpicking and biased. You didn't even mention Danny in the Characters section, despite him being a very inconsistent character. He says one thing and then later says something that contradicts it all in the same scene. I win, bye bye.
Lj isn't a great movie it's ok at best due to the side plot really dragging it down and rey isn't even the protagonist of the trilogy anymore as she barely does anything (i mean even side characters such as finn and the captain which i forgot his name accomplished more things in that movie) as the supposed main character of the trilogy i feel like this movie focusses a lot more on luke and kylo and that that is bassicly the entire point of the movie. And also kinda the only strong point
@@megashark1013 it's bc Danny is 10dimension character with multiple layers... some would say infinite layers, dont bother to understand
Even knowing this is a parody I felt my intelligence being insulted several times in the first 4 minutes, and I don't have too much of that thing so that's a problem.
This video really feels like it was made by a REAL, genuine, passionate, thoughtful, and most of all HUMAN human being. I appreciate that you put words on the screen so I could follow along, not many would take the time to consider the EMOTIONS and severe cognitive disabilities of their audience like that. Thank you, from one real HUMAN to another, for holding my hand and guiding me through this EMOTIONAL EXPERIENCE of a video essay.
I love it when sarcasm is used like this to show just how flawed the other party's argument is.
People like to act like movies and the other arts are these godly artifacts that are above any form of logical criticism.
The idea that there are people that can make arguments like 'Plotholes and logical inconsistencies don't matter in movies' is so baffling to me.
I like that he chose The Room to apply this to as well, since that's a movie almost everyone agrees is terrible, though the people that don't believe in objectivity when it comes to art couldn't tell you why it's terrible.
@@cranberryrosebud I don't believe in objectivity in art and I absolutely can tell you why I subjectively think the Room is terrible.
@@AbandonedVoid no, I mean explaining why it objectively doesn’t work. If you don’t believe in objectivity in art, you’ll obviously be arguing from a subjective perspective, and your argument could still be that it’s bad, it would just be from a point of pure opinion.
@@cranberryrosebud Just as you would be, even if you falsely believe you're being objective
@@AbandonedVoid A question not meant to start any argument, I'm just curious: why do you consider it impossible for art to be judged objectively?
The Room is probably HiTop's favourite film "It made me laugh therefore making me emotional so it doesn't need logic or plot."
As a cybersecurity student, "Military grade encryption" always makes me laugh.
Doesn’t “military grade” mean “make it fast and cheap”?
Excellent video, though I feel you could've gone more into Mark's misogyny, which he himself doesn't seem to be fully aware of. When he calls Lisa a bitch, you can just feel his feeling of superiority over women bubbling to the surface.
You know the one and only way anyone could pick up on this being a parody? You actually had a clever transition from the movie to the sponsor.
I knew this was a parody but i tought the sponsor was real
@@darkcat6530 its a real sponsor or nord wouldnt be in the description
Mark calling Lisa a bitch over Tommy's dead body gave me Masters of the Universe: Revelations vibes. It was like watching Teela flip out in the throne room all over again. Who knew Kevin Smith had been inspired by such a masterpiece of film.
I see a lot of people saying this is a HiTop parody, but I'm honestly seeing more Browntable than HiTop. The words on screen has the same Browntable font, the constant "in my opinion"s, the Rian Johnson (duh!) thing. Even NordVPN is a Browntable sponsor, more so than a HiTop sponsor. Either way, hilarious and insightful. (But mostly hilarious)
Also, the stock footage
@@thebigcritic Absolutely both XD I just meant I see more Browntable elements than HiTop, that's all. But it's definitely both of those massives XD
@@keylakettlemjardim8282 Yep. Because less we forget, HiTop films his own stock footage. Because he's a *real* filmmaker X'D
@@saj-manthesonicfan1893 whats wrong with browntable I have not watched much of his content but from what I have seen his content is not horrible
@@jadenbryant9283 How familiar are you with EFAP?
Hitop: "something is wrong. I can feel it"
Madvocate: “Yeah, it’s you.”
@Abdelrahman He made a video about Wonder Woman 1984 that Madvocate criticized. More generally, Madvocate dislikes HiTop’s style of emotive arguments and appeal to subjectivity, which he is lampooning in this video.
@@spencergilchrist1457 Hitop apparently wants films with no plot where random people with no personality or character just do random things for no reason and completely illogical and nonsensical things happen because he doesn't get that movies can have logic and plot and be emotional.

I'm getting GDELB vibes here.
This analysis is so human, only a true human with all the human characteristic of a human could come up with.
BTW, Did I say how human it is?
I think you missed how genuinely human the characters human personalities were
My boy getting sponsored! Let’s go!
You really opened my eyes to just how HUMAN this film is
This gives me hardcore Mewlbshlie vibes. Keep up the good work Madvocate.
GDELB came early boys!
This video is, first of all, human
*stroking*
HARDEN
This is objectively the best video essay on The Room, in my opinion.
"Everybody betray me! I fed up with this world!" is a line I have remembered ever since watching the movie for the first time. It's almost as iconic as Neil Breen's "How could you have committed suicide!?"
"I can't believe you committed suicide!"
"It's captured with so much nuance, finesse and most of all *human* " This is what an actual, real and quintessentially conclusion in a video essay of such grandiose magnitude should look and feel like. Perfection!
Love you Hi-top films❤️
Oh my god, the dry sarcasm and over the top pretentiousness was pure, solid gold!! If I wasnt already subbed, I would have for this video.
Me: expects madvocate to make a video on flash season 3.
Madvocate: posts this instead.
Me: that subverted my expectations.
Finally, something to put to word the magic of a film that brought tears to so many a critical mind.
Hell yeah he back again
I see what you're doing, but I still can't sit through it. I am literally feeling my temperature rise to an uncomfortable level, and I'm only at 2min.
The words on the screen gave me anxiety. It's like watching a horror movie and waiting for a jumpscare.
That’s your opinion.
Nailed that video essay voice. If MauLer does deliberately over exaggerated caricature of it, you did a straight imitation and it's perfect.
1:53 He's so happy he has him as his best friend and he loves Lisa so much.
Can’t wait to see some good rat.
It takes true talent and *taste* to recognize the sheer thematic and emotional weight of the trolly of life, for it is where we all reside until the ambulance of un-life comes to greet us and carry us into the great beyond.
Watched this whole video. Mad Respect. Well done. This is good work. Very well explicated.
You sparked my insight.Thanks Madvocate
I am madly happy when get another vid from the mad man himself
I can't wait when people start seeing how great a channel this is and you really start to grow and to know I am one of the first people to witness it
I don’t care that this video is fake- it PERFECTLY represents the sincerity of Wiseau’s heart in this film 🤗
The way your tone went right back to how it was before the VPN ad the moment it finished was fucking beautiful.
This is a masterpiece of sarcasm - and that's a comment I've never made on any video, ever.
I watched the film for the first time at a movie theatre last night, surrounded by “veteran” viewers who wouldn’t shut up throughout the viewing, making fun of the plot holes and the bad acting. What bothered me the most is that they were imposing their understanding of The Room as a bad movie to the rest of us - I had a similar experience with the Rocky Horror Picture Show. To me this comes off as the equivalent of beating a dead horse or bullying someone who’s weaker than you. It’s such an easy target that it tells more about the perpetrators than the actual movie. Ps: Great video, thanks!
Im only about 7min in and im loving every second, i thought you gave a little to much away that clip from the plotholes vid and now im hearing the browntable quote, still amazing work!
This needs to be a series
Best ad insert ever.
Thank you, Gladvocate, for the honest insight and for not playing the hate piano.
I love that you even used the video game music of "the Room".
I'm seriously almost dying out of laughter.
Thank u!
For making my day Madvocate.
Madvocate back again hell yeah
The only thing wrong with this HiTop parody is that you didn’t talk aggressively enough. You didn’t sound angry at the viewer which is an essential component of any HiTop production.
that was some good rat my dude
The nord vpn bit was so good that I didn’t know if it was a parody or not
Finally MDELB
So this is what GDELB would look like if people took notes on it. What a masterpiece, in my opinion.
Nice one HiTopvocate
You’ve got to review Hawkeye. They did Kingpin a big injustice.
Madvocate I love ur vids always have in fact I like how you talk about what’s wrong with some movies and how to fix them this the first video you think the movie is perfect and I think it’s perfect too I didn’t know I needed this channel but I did
You could’ve convinced me this was a HiTop or Browntable video
The sponsor tho what a fluid transition
Actually thought this was a hitop video for a second lmao great job dude
The bold text on screen is perfectly spaced, in my opinion.
I havent watched this movie but after watching this video I can agree that this movie is pretty good. PS, the faze to his opinion into the sponsership honestly gave me a gigantic grin, good comedy.
What made it for me is when you said that the best part of movies is when they do mundane tasks.
Watching all your other vids then this comes out!
On this episode of GDELB.
Wow.

I'm deeply touched and inspired of your perspective.
