TOP DASHER or CHERRY PICKER?! (which doordash strategy makes more money?)

  • In this video I cherry pick orders and only accept ones that I normally would in order to see if I can make more money doordashing than when I had a 70% acceptance rate like a top dasher or even when I accepted every order.

    In a more populated market, you can essentially dash all day even if you're not a top Dasher or even scheduled to dash.
    I can see why it's benificial to be a Top Dasher in your market.

      Or you can use a macro recorder application and record yourself picking up a dash, either by scheduling the first available for your zone or by “dash now” then add a refresh swipe to refresh the app. Then you can play this macro back by speeding up the recorded macro (I.e 5x speed) and have it repeat itself In infinite loops. This script will continuously tap-tap-refresh-tap-tap-refresh very rapidly in the correct sequence and screen locations. As soon as your zone turns red or a shift is available, this application quickly snags this block, without you even looking at your phone and in the same room . This is faster that a competing dasher would be able to beat you to picking up a dash, giving you an nice edge, and a high probability you will get on shift in under 20 minutes
      I used Bluestacks’ macro recorder found in its gaming control features. Basically, I took the same concept of using this feature to automate or emulate complex gaming control moves that can be made with just one keystroke, and applied it to scheduling in the Dasher app. I realized quickly this eliminated the need for Top Dasher or early access to scheduling. I could have single digit acceptance and still work when I want!!

    Cherry picking and I average 27 to 35 on a regular basis. I'll take those 6, 7, and 8 dollars all day as long as the mileage is low. I can turn 4 easily in an hour, sometimes 5 orders. Its not always about picking up the high dollar orders.

    • @wildpitchsports

      This part. Can't get caught up on the $ amount only. I used to only do $10 and up and I always hit at least $150 in a 7 hour period.
      However, now I do that, and I also take short distance 6,7, 8 and 9s and sometimes it plays out to where you're doing 3-4 of these in an hour, sometimes 5 if you get lucky and there all ready and short drives. Combine that with the high orders and I don't see how anyone doesn't get $200 out of a 8-10 hours a day.

    From my experience you want to keep your acceptance a little over 50%, the reason being because you get access to scheduling at 3pm rather than midnight. This gives you access to an all day shift if you wish to do so. Another thing is that you also get priority on orders which isn’t a lot but it’s something.

    I still average about 33-37 bucks an hour in my area. Granted I live in a nice suburb area where the tips are plentiful got $120 once and this is not my normal full-time job but I don't accept Walmart orders or things that I have to shop for i cherry pick and rarely do I ever take anything under $6. It might seem shitty waiting for good orders but I usually am doing something else because I'm so close to my home or I'm watching a video on investing or something. The reason they give us crappy orders is because people accept the crappy orders.

    • @randalltempelaar
      @randalltempelaar 2 года назад

      Yup, and i think once they see that someone is willing to accept crappy orders, or they are willing to drive either long distances or go to shitty areas in town, they start giving more of those orders to you. I take one order that seems to pay well but it takes me out to Falcon (co) so like a 8 minute additional drive, then suddenly I'm getting almost nothing but those. And when I take one order that's like $4 (I almost NEVER take those but I'll see them literally go across the street sometimes so why not) then that's when it starts giving me all of the low tip no tip ho trash.

    I wonder if there is Dasher favoritism even among Top Dashers. The months I achieved TD my orders were the same if not worse than my normal orders, which ultimately lead me to lose TD as my acceptance rate slipped to below 50% my last month as a TD because of how awful the orders were. I Would sit outside of popular spots, be a TD with very high customer rating, and 100% completion rate, and see other Dashers, who were not parked there get orders for the restaurant I was parked in front of while I continued to wait. I don't understand the DD system or how to make it consistently work for me.

    I wanted to revisit this video since this new trial program started up in the Memphis, TN, market. I got an email from DD where they are paying a guaranteed rate of $17 per active hour, PLUS tips. You can only decline an average of one order per hour. This means the base rate and peak pay will count, and they will prorate partial hours, like if you worked an hour and a half. So far, they have paid extra, even when the tips were great. I've stayed above $28 per TOTAL hour with this program, and have been paid anywhere from $5 to $15 extra per day. The pay shows up the next morning between 9-9:30.

I tred it for a couple of week and found out that I can make a living going full time. I have been a top dasher ever since. My acceptance rate was as high as 90%. I am hovering around 75% right now. Here in San Diego, I have been putting in between 35 to 40 hours a week and make 900 tp 1100 dollars. I don't take anything less than $5. At the end of the week doordash help you out with the pay adjustment. They look at how many miles you drive and if you take low orders and compensate you for it. Looks like you basically were doing what I do and try to stick to a little over $1 per mile on whether you accept something or not.
    I can tell you this, Top Dasher is worth it for me, but not for everyone. For one, my area stays grey so much and only turns red during times when I don't usually feel like dashing (rush hour, early mornings). So being able to dash anytime I want is great. That's great also because I use the Dasher Direct card so I can start a dash with almost no gas, do an order, end dash, gas up, get back to it. Very helpful since I'm bad with money. Next, TD definitely do get more orders when it isn't busy. So when I'm dashing during my favorite times (2-pm to 5 pm), I will still be very busy whereas other dashers (I've tested it with my woman dashing with me who is not a TD) and I would get an order despite it having been less time since my last one compared to her. That's enough reason for me right there. So being able to dash any time I want to, and getting orders more when it's not supposed to be busy, makes it worth spending 2-3 days at the end of the month accepting a handful of bad orders. But during most of the month, I'm still cherry picking the whole time. And the difference in hourly pay those three days when I'm accepting almost every order is like, $4 an hour less than when I'm doing the cherry pickin.

    Not the best $/mile ratio. Saw a few of your orders I wouldn't take. The key with making the best of this gig is how much you can make with the least amount of wear and tear on your vehicle. Yes, you have to drive miles to make money, but if I'm driving 80 miles, I want to make a minimum of $120.
