- Hey everyone!
Since there hasn't been a proper upload in a while I wanted to leave this here to watch. Currently working on trying to get a sub 3 run against Valstrax, but I greatly underestimated the power of his rng :'D
It was pretty close though so I know I can do it eventually. However with Pokemon Sword&Shield just around the corner and having quite a lot to do for my studies at the moment, I'm not sure when I'll get that lucky strike ^^

Dodging the attacks with the hammer's natural movement... You're godlike. This is one of the cleanest speedruns I've seen.

I literally cannot imagine a more perfect run than this. You even finished with the last hit of the spinning meteor. Just... just perfect...

I ve had MHGU on my switch for ages now, never gave it the time it deserves, been playing world and stuff, last week I decided I’m gonna do it, using Glaive right now but after seeing this......I dunno maaannn hammer is pretty vicious haha

Hunters Domain I think that’s just this game in general. Coming from W to GU was a bit weird, Glaive is the only thing I liked movement with, LS main in World but the thing is I’m a highish rank in World, I got the game at launch so being a low level again is completely alien to me, when I get some mean decos and a rhythm going I know I ll love this game, the amount of monsters is just perfect

Shine Eidam no problem and thanks for the feedback! i’d suggest practicing valor hammer against a nargacuga or rathian at first to get a better understanding of positioning, when to dodge and when to time and chain attacks. it’s a lot of fun 😁
Glad that this playstyle kinda made it into Rise with Charge Switch: Courage. I don't care if it's not super good, it looks awesome

Wow Hammer looks fun as hell in GU.
I wonder if specifically for those knockdowns where spinning meteor was up or almost up, you could maybe squeeze a bit more damage out by actually fully charging the final charge. Or would that take too much time? It’s only an extra 20 MV but it might finish the hunt just a tiny bit quicker. You’d have to do some testing.
For most openings it would probably not make that big a difference due to the increased windup time of the whole animation, definitely a bit too sluggish compared to the shorter lv 3 charge.
That being said though what I need to work on is fitting in more lv 3 charges overall. It’s risky, but ends up being the best way to drain his HP faster.
I’ll have to fine-tune my positioning 😅
@@huntersdomain3479 yeah, definitely a design oversight on the devs’ part to make fully charging the lv3 charge a downgrade in most situations

I cant feel the same feeling i got when i fought apex and deviants when i fight at elders on world, idk why but gu was and still is the best in my opinion
Problem because they were, idk like older, the graphics are different, the amount of play styles, and elders are just elders, monsters you can’t catch :) your welcome

I just recently started using Hammer so I could study monster tells and proper positioning. I also use Valor Style because it's the closest hunter style based on my playstyle. Was taking a stroll on RUclips studying how speedrunners optimally use Valor Hammer and ended up here. I was wondering how you were not hit by Valstrax's wing slams despite its wings overlapping your hunter? Is it I-Frames? Hitbox smaller than it is? Or do some of the moves in Valor Mode have some startup invulnerabilities? I'm curious about it and if you manage to leave a reply, it would be a great help to an aspiring hammer learner such as myself. The timestamps where I saw you dodged these moves are at 1:44, 1:51, and 2:16. And congratulations by the way on this run and good luck to your quest for sub-3!
Hans - chi hey thanks for the great comment. So this is pretty much abusing the hitboxes of valstrax’ attacks. interestingly enough the inner part of his wing will not cause damage as long as you are close to him, but there’s not a lot of leeway- if you are just a step too far back you will in fact get hit, happens to me sometimes if i am trying to close a distance, but end up being too far away 😁 for this hunt positioning is key, the few things that need to be i-framed are his roar and if he tries slapping you with his wing from the side.

I've come here after struggling with Valor Hammer in the arena (Crit boost, nothing there had the style/weapon I'd played).
I now see Valor hammer can... charge bonk in.. multiple ways and not just lunge lol.
very good run though, maybe one day I will bonk again.
Is that the yian garuga grudge match? If so I think there should be one or two decent runs recorded to get a better feel how to best wield the hammer in valor style. Definitely one of the most flashy ways to hunt :)

akosimudshake continuously keep practicing and reattempting hunts on monsters and you’ll be amazed how much you can improve. keep an eye out for other players that did the same monster with the desired weapon class choice and try implementing some of the things they did bit by bit. that’s in a nutshell how i got better at it all 🙂👍

thx :D , well charm wasn't found legit, rng is too crazy for that, but i wanted to try having the best set available and it doesn't work with average charms, which is a shame ^^

Great run man! Can I ask you which weapon / style is your favorite in GU? I’m coming from World and am having trouble settling on one weapon
Osutin Heizu hey 👋 well personally my two favorite styles are valor hammer and valor great sword. but variety is always a good thing especially in this game. i hesitate to recommend a certain style to people since choice can be so different in what one feels comfortable with. i would say give valor great sword a try though and see if you like it. it can be a very solid and safe choice against monsters.
does the special dodge during valormode have an extended window?
I believe that it grants something like evasion +1, not sure exactly, but it definitely increases a bit

Thanks yeah I was convinced this was the better set to use, but turns out there’s a simple build that would have worked just as well 😅 if I ever feel like it again I might redo this run, since it’s a fun spectacle.

oh boy i wish i could, but it won’t be an exact replica anymore since hammer plays very different there. If I do ever get good in MH Rise I’ll definitely give Valstrax a try though 😁

nowhere special. pretty much anything we can find or soundtracks we know of ^^ , i find most of the music on youtube or soundcloud

Just give it a try on some weaker monsters to get a better feeling for it. I think if you start out using hammer on Rathian, Yian Kutku and Nargacuga it will be good practice opportunities

firehazardFox 15 hey, on this character i had access to charm edits that had the best possible legit values for charms, but one rarely ever finds them on regular hunts or from charm farming. i am currently working on a second speed run against valstrax on my old account using a different set that most players will be able to make using a tenderizer 5 ooo or expert 10 ooo

its hard to me using valor hammer, have you ever fought it with aerial style?
yeah valor is tricky because of the way you need to fill the gauge and no i have never tried it with aerial - at least not valstrax 😅 - the crabs like shogun and stonefist work pretty good with aerial hammer though i think

Picked up GU a week ago and I’m just breaking into HR, as an aspiring hammer bro I can only hope to reach your skill (my experience in world hardly counts).
Xenotundra I hope you enjoy mhgu! it’s quite different from world and if you’re looking forward to picking up the hammer i think starting out practicing nargacuga and rathian are good choices to get used to how it all works. valstrax is a fun fight once you’ve grown accustomed to all his move patterns, but it does require some time memorizing it. all the best!

@@theosr93 it depends on how close you can stick to him. when he does that spin, if you stay near his head or underneath it better, his wing won't be able to hit you.
