I think what's really cool about Mortimer Freeze is that unlike most bosses in this game, he isn't transforming or changing size or shape. Rather, he's using his ice powers to create his own golems to fight the Cups. The Snow Monster and his Snowflake form are like magical constructs that he pilots. And when he's defeated, he's back to normal. Heck, the Snowflake melts off of him to show his physical form hasn't changed. *Edit:* Maybe should specify further... he's a magician, but he doesn't _truly_ transform when you expect him to.
Seeing the description, I agree with you. This fight is so cheap on parries. In the first phase, he sometimes doesn't even shoot pink cards. In the second phase, I tend to shoot the pink popsicles before being able to parry them. Third phase depends, as during the bucket attack, he always throws a pink one, but it kinda sucks when you're in a bad position.
I don't know what annoys me more, the fact that you make him look easy, or the fact that you managed to do this on DAY 2 OF THIS DLC's RELEASE! All I can say is incredible job.
@@hustler666100 you can see at 0:40 that he pulls backwards when he rolls forward, and pulls up when he's gonna hop (plus there's an extra sound cue for the upwards jump)
The cuphead bosses always remind of the ones in Rayman 1 I played way back as a kid on windows 98. This game is a blast and is up there with HK, Dead Cells, and Dark Souls difficulty bosses. Very skillful play!
Not sure if you did this on purpose, but at 0:30 the super you activated did twice the amount of damage since the hitbox of the snowman overlayed the hitbox of Mortimer.
I _just_ finished this boss on expert. What worked for me was Ms. Chalice with the Super II, and due to her 1 extra health and invincible roll - which comes extremely handy when that snowman rolls across the screen.
Finally managed an S rank against him today. Probably the hardest to S rank in the DLC every parry is risky as hell. Screwed up so much on that last phase. Never got tired of seeing that background tho!
I've been at it for a couple hours, been either 3 hearts or 3 parries, never both. Actually almost had the god run before I lost a heart a half second before the knockout. Saltbaker has nothing on this guy
@@EFPX I had the same issue on some of earlier runs before S ranking. Use plenty of EX shots and if you can get a super out in the last phase it helps make it.... lets just say more manageable lmao
@@lollin_cee5141 Yeah I finally got it a few hours ago, just more and more trial and error, definitely the most irritating fight in the game for me because of how hard it was to line everything up, did that, got Ranger and then finished the King's Gauntlet so now I can happily close the book on Cuphead once again.
Man this boss was hard AF without any charms the parries were risky as hell and it took me the entire day to parry it altough i finally was able to do it
One thing that I find really cool is that on the bottom right and left corners during the 1st and 2nd phase, you can can see candles flickering, as if you were watching the battle and they were on your peripheral. Such a small detail that most people won't even focus on during a battle, but they chose to take the time and animate it anyway. Goes to show how remarkable the team that made this game truly is.
A similar thing is done during phase 2 of Glumstone's fight with all the gnomes on the benches appearing. Because the camera is situated behind the benches, it can make you feel like you're watching the show alongside the gnomes

This was fucking hard! Especially the snowman phase where you have to dash over him rolling while dodging lingering ice cubs/popsicles. And it's so easy to choke in the last phase. Even if this was generous with parries, I'd say one of the hardest bosses in the game to S rank let alone DLC.
Fun Fact: A minute ago, when I was fighting Mortimer Freeze on Expert Mode, there was a glitch in phase two where he got stuck in his rolling position and all I had to do was shoot him until he died, which was effortless.

I think of all the expert bosses this was the hardest for me. I know it can vary from person to person but for me this was the hardest. I was at this one for 2 hours before i managed to beat it.

Dumb question. Some PINK OBJECTS in the game do not count as Parry's but the game never tells you. Are the pink popsicles counted as parry's? Because I will have to S rank him eventually too.

This was my last S-rank before having them all done again, and boy was this one fucking cheap. I beat it like 9 times no-hit before the game actually decided to give me the pinks necessary to get the S.

Wait... in Expert, the swords in the second phase are many more than what I see in this video. They cover up the whole screen. Those swords are from the Regular fight.🤔

Good luck! I screwed up for a bit on Glumstone when I first started until I began remembering how to play. It's been a blast of a DLC.

I was finally able to finish & s-rank every boss, with the exception of Esther Winchester and the ever-so-nightmarish Chef Saltbaker.

That snowflake has the best facial expressions I have ever seen since I’ve found this game.
I have no clue why but this boss on expert took me so much longer than all other bosses, even though on regular he's not that hard.
This one felt more annoying from how inconsistent parrying can be.

This is one of the best dlcs I’ve ever purchased and played, from the artstyle to the music and the bosses are just as much fun especially this one
I think Mortimer Freeze is one of my less favorites only because of the inconsistent number of things to parry.

I beat it with charge shot and spread shot but this was by far the worst for me so far for S rank, can't do much when he doesn't send pink projectiles

nah. It's got good damage when all shots hit, great range, and its especially good in the second phase as it pierces through all the things on screen
