"If the ocean is so smart why didn't it just take the heart back to Te Fiti itself?" So many people don't realize the connotation to little Moana and the turtle here. It's the whole reason the ocean chose Moana. Because Moana could have EASILY picked the turtle up and carried it to the ocean. Instead? Moana let the turtle do it itself. She shooed away enemies and gave it a nudge, but she didn't do everything herself; she let the turtle make the journey on it's own. The ocean is doing the same for Moana.
I think that the ocean also wanted the people of Motunui to start sailing again (as Maui suggests after training with Moana to master his Hook) and that's definitely connected with Moana's mission being a success, that's why the ocean didn't interfere excessively
@@drudle this is such a great answer bc you’re so right, returning the heart wasn’t the only task, it was also about changing the people to restore their connection to the ocean, only moana could do that bc it’s in her character to support and nurture

Oh yeah they definitely had to PGfy Mauis stories since some of them aren’t for kids like the lyrics for your welcome ‘oh also I lasso the sun, your welcome to stretch your days and bring you fun’ which is half right to the myth but he didn’t lasso it like he’s saying he just waited for the sun to wake up and him and his brothers just jumped the sun while it was waking up and just crippled the sun, that’s the Māori myth of why the sun moves slow now

The entire cast was of Polynesian descent with the exception of Alan Tudyk, who played the chicken (and the villager who suggested eating the chicken). The reason people call the big island of Hawaii just "the big island" is because the name of the island is Hawaii. The island of Maui isn't named directly for the demigod Maui, it's actually named after the son of the Polynesian chief that landed there, but said son was named after the demigod, so it's indirectly related.
there's nothing wrong with having a romantic sub/plot. this one was done tastefully it didnt feel forceful girlboss moment so it was enjoyable and fresh. but now disney keeps pushing that angle just to be a part of the bandwagon
The realization in the big reprise being "The call wasn't out there at all, it's inside me" is an amazing way to end an arc about self discovery Also, I assume you know by now if you didn't already, but as well as accurately representing a lot of Polynesian mythology, it also hints at one of the biggest historical mysteries about Polynesian culture. They were voyagers and spread from island to island, but then stopped for about 1000 years. Then went back to exploring and no one really knows why they paused for dozens of generations then started up again. So in this movie, it was because of Te Fiti losing her heart and the ocean becoming dangerous
It's wild to think that if the "Long Pause" hadn't ended, Hawaii and New Zealand would never have been colonized. There would never be moai raised on Easter Island. I suppose the upside of no humans on Aoteroa is that the moa and Haast's eagle would be around longer? 🦅

Maui is like genie. People miss that part where he has a weakened omnipresence he knows about real world future events. Twitter. And movie 2 comments. Love these types. Shows they are all powerful. Genie in essence is just a reality warper. Something some mutants can do given genie has limits.
In many variations of Maui's origin story his parents weren't portrayed as selfish or cruel. He was born very sickly & they thought he was certain to die, so why make him suffer? They also had other kids to feed & so wasting resources on a doomed baby was not wise. They threw him in the sea to put him out of his misery, but he didn't understand that, & after the sea saved him & the gods made him a demigod he went back home trying to win their love specifically & the love of humans in general with his deeds.
20:06 he is the trickster god of Polynesian mythology hes basically loki, son wukong, prometheus they all like to steal from gods and be worshipped by humans. fun fact muai hook star sign is designed from the little dipper which appears to look like a hook or question mark depending on the season and area you are its also the only constellation with a star that doesn't move the North star (Polaris)
Polynesians can correct any mistakes I make, but Maui is a demigod who essentially steals the secrets of the gods to give them to mankind. Not all of the feats he claims in the movie are actually his though. Like the story of coconuts is attributed to... a story of a woman and an eel/snake, I think.
That's basically it. A cheeky trickster god who just sometimes happens to have positive consequences. On his belly is Mahuika the goddess of fire, who had flaming fingernails. Maui basically tricked her into giving him more and more of her flaming fingernails which is how he introduced fire to humanity

Don’t get mad at people’s opinions, Moana is literally my favorite Disney movie ever but I honestly didn’t enjoy the second one. But I’m happy that others did.
Rewatching Moana and being a Pacific Islander myself, I'd love to see more native american stories with this animation and storytelling. Lol No Pocahontas cuz yikes. Loved the film and the music but the real history and background. Yeah, no.
In Philippines we have a similar legend, the mountain goddess was named Makiling but her heart being stolen is not literal. According to the legend she helped crops grow and be plentiful that people didn't have to toil. She falls in love with a mortal man but he doesn't love her back so she is heart broken and stopped helping and is why people have to work hard farming. The mountain named after her is said to be shaped like a woman laying down. I really think Tefiti was based on her since she doesn't exist in Polynesian legends.
This is by far my favorite modern Disney movie. And the fact that they have only given Moana a water fountain in the Disney parks. As much as I think Princess and the Frog is cool with the animation style and the first black princess…it just isn’t nearly as widely loved as Moana. Same goes for Coco and Encanto. I know Encanto is more recent but I think in a few years it too will fade and Moana will still be here loved by the majority of everyone who have seen it.

17:10 even as a chicken Alan Tudyk still gots it.
You have to see the recently released Latvian animated film FLOW. An actual experience; amazing piece of work. Might win an Oscar.
In polynesian folklore "The Great Fish Of Maui" is commonly known as the North Island of New Zealand.
All of the tropical Pacific Islands like Tahiti are magical places....Agent Coulson told us😂.
Been to many of them...and they are. If you can get away from the tourists.
Criminal that the Normies haven’t reacted to Encanto yet
Rana rocking the momo ayase fit 👽 🐄
I like Moana, I thought it was OK. But your enjoyment of this movie is contagious.
Little anecdote for you Te Fiti is inspired by one of my homeland's island called Huahine because one of its mountain range has the shape of a pregnant woman lying down and the village surrounding it is called Fitii
This would make a great double-feature with WHALE RIDER. Both make me cry like a baby
Still my favorite Disney movie!
Race to Witch Mountain, which was a 2009 remake of a 1975 movie.
It wasn't incredible, but it was fun.
Instant classic, for me and my family!!!
It's not exactly conventional content but y'all might like reacting to the animatics of Epic: The Musical
MOANA 2 IS OUT !!!
How have they not seen Moana? They’re only uploading so they can upload a video for the sequel.

It is or supposed to be inspired and/or loosely based on people who are and things that are Southeast Asian and meant to be Southeast Asian 🌏 🇲🇲🇹🇭🇰🇭🇱🇦🇻🇳🇲🇾🇸🇬🇧🇳🇵🇭🇮🇩🇹🇱.
As a Southeast Asian myself, who, in my own personal ideas, opinions, thoughts, perspectives, and criticisms, found it good but could've done more to be better and even great, especially in terms of Southeast Asian representation and the likes, I want to view also your reactions and listen also to your discussions of ideas, opinions, thoughts, perspectives, and criticisms about it, apart from what I already viewed and listened from other reactors and/or reaction channels who or which already watched, reacted to, and discused about it.
Greetings from the Philippines! 🇵🇭

I believe that the Kakamora scene was inspired by Max Max
i loved moana 2 idcc people go in looking for a reason to dislike it but it was a good full circle.

Yeah, no.
Pls watch inside out 1,2 its one of the best pixars
I know Encanto is more recent but I think in a few years it too will fade and Moana will still be here loved by the majority of everyone who have seen it.
neither princess and frog, coco or encanto have “faded”. All 3 are getting rides in Disneyland actually
