    I have been lifting eccentricially for about 3 months now and I think I will do it forever. All my joint pain is gone, I'm bigger than I've ever been, I can practise mma 5 nights a week because my tendons are so strong now, that they don't get injured or recover extremely fast

      Did you still do concentric reps but only focused more on eccentric or only eccentrics?

      @@yuritard9658 I saw a video of somebody doing exactly that shortly before the comment and getting really good results and I guess my judgement was influenced by that, thinking he meant that rather than just focusing on eccentrics.

    I like to teach new lifters the general practice of "3 seconds down, 1-3 sec hold, and 1 second up" for most lifts.

    I’m trying this and so far it really makes a difference in the building of muscle. I think this method is better than more reps…slow and steady.

    I get about 25% of the hypertrophy I get from the concentric, about 35% from the eccentric and about 40% from the stretch (ROM). Tension is maximized as the muscle is stretched.

    To clarify; you can still get strong with very slow eccentrics right? I’m aware it’s not the OPTIMAL way to train for pure strength only like a powerlifter or strongman, but assuming I want to get big and strong at the same time (with an emphasis on mass/aesthetics) it’s best to exaggerate the eccentric right? I definitely feel like I get better workouts and visible results with super slow eccentrics/stretch and then a forceful contraction of the muscle.

      The video here says eccentrics are great for muscle growth, but the concentric portion is better for gaining strength. Or am I getting it wrong?
      I've been wondering why people don't just use nothing but eccentrics.

    • @user-gk4jd1jv4k

      @@Durzo1259I actually have training phases were I do nothing but negative emphasis/eccentrics, the eccentric is superior for muscle/strength building because they're taking advantage of leverage which is much safer for the joints/connective tissues.

    • @liamjohnson7887
      @liamjohnson7887 4 месяца назад

      @Durzo1259 I think he's just suggesting that the eccentric doesn't matter for those competing in sports such as powerlifting, as they are judged on how much weight they can lift, for the meets themselves. But in terms of training, strength can be gained from eccentrics. At least that's how I interpreted it. Hope that made sense.

    • @user-gk4jd1jv4k

      @@liamjohnson7887 Yeah many would think it wouldn't but it does, because the lowering of the bar to the chest is sort of like coiling a spring, then BAM to raise the bar. If I recall correctly Doug Young out of Texas was BIG on negatives for a very good reason, as they are very effective.

    Is there anything to the idea that new lifters trying to do explosive movements don't have the acute contractability that Maddox can use, so staying under tension can help them maintain the stability to create maximum force?

      @@WenningStrength Roger that! It's how I teach my clients new to lifting. I want them to hold tension so they don't destabilize their joints and create a force that could potentially cause injury. Walk before you run.

  • @_Atlas.

    I slow my eccentrics for form and control, but why would that facilitate muscle growth? If I go to failure on every set, my muscles would be exerting the same force whether I go slow on the eccentrics or not. The velocity of the weight may change, but the force is always in the same direction.
    Not trying to criticize, I'm just genuinely wondering how what you said is true.

    we are not stronger in the eccentric, to lift 100 kg you need at least 101kg of force, to keep the weight still you need exactly 100kg of force, to let the bar go down you need 99kg of force... simply you need less power to do the eccentric.

    • @WenningStrength
      @WenningStrength  9 месяцев назад +3

      Depends on the tempo - but you are stronger in the eccentric meaning you can lift more on the way down than the way up. Let’s say you bench 315. You can for sure lower 405 - but you sure as fuck aren’t concentrically lifting it 😂
