      When it comes to pitchers he is the GOAT. Man set many, many records and could whoop someone's behind if they stormed the mound.

      @@yodacrd7411 they also changed the height of the mound because of Gibson's dominance. Because of injuries and ungodly high contracts, owners don't want these guys getting hurt, thus they don't pitch complete games, and throw 150 pitches like in times past.

    I mean I have over 4K offensive strikeouts

    • @thedude3065
      @thedude3065 2 года назад

      that's almost twice as much as Reggie Jackson

  • @jackson5116
    @jackson5116 5 лет назад +2

    What makes this feat so crazy rare today is that these guys went 9 innings repeatedly, so they had far more opportunities for strikeouts than the average pitcher will today. If Verlander goes into his 40's, and keeps with the same kind of caliber pitching, he's got a legitimate chance at reaching 4,000 in his career, but 5,000 is just never going to happen with today's game.

    Fun fact-Roger Clemens' 4000th strikeout, Edgar Renteria, was the last batter in two world series, 1997 and 2004. In 1997 he hit a walk off single to win it for the Marlins, in 2004, he grounded out to give the Red Sox their first championship in 86 years.

    • @thedude3065
      @thedude3065 2 года назад

      Renteria was by no means a hall of famer, but damn he got around well enough to be a part of one historic moment after another, he's also the one that hit a tie breaking homer off of Cliff Lee in the 2010 World Series to put an end to Giants 56 year drought and began their great reign of terror, IMO he deserves a statue outside of The Fish Tank, seeing as he provided the Marlins greatest triumph

    I was at that Clemens game. Two interesting things about that game: 1.) It was also his 300th win. 2.) After he got #4,000 the very next batter was Tino Martinez, his first trip back to NYC after leaving the Yankees. He stepped back to let Clemens get his applause. Then, when Tino was announced, Clemens stepped off the mound so Tino could get applause...then he became strikeout # 4,001. One of my favorite moments seen live.

    LOL at the Roger haters. Never tested positive in an official MLB test. Ya'll act like he wasn't throwing gas and striking batters out way before suspicion grew. Show me the smoking gun and irrefutable proof and I'll be happy to jump on the steroid bandwagon. There's a reason why hearsay and conjecture evidence is not admissible in court.

      It's possible. I definitely think 3000 strikeouts is going to happen. 4000 though is just ssooooo difficult to achieve. Especially now with pitch count limits and five man rotations.

      Schanty Khan uhhh dude having a second team doesn't automatically make you a bandwagon I'm a hardcore Dodgers fan but the Sox are muy second team because of they're 2004 run (I was 10 years old and that was one of the greatest things I ever saw) also David Ortiz is my all time favorite player never to have been a Dodger and I know all about they're history it's only bandwagon if you don't know nothing about the game dude maybe the Giants got his respect

      We definitely will eventually but it'll be awhile. Kershaw is like 1500 away and he's 32, so not inconceivable. Verlander has about 3000 but he's 37 so not happening. Just puts Nolan Ryan's longevity into perspective
