To be honest, those two are the defibrillator pads keeping SNL alive
Sounds about right
they're the 2 lead writers as well so if you have a problem with the rest of the show, they deserve blame. I love weekend update though.
@@c9IceCream1 They don't get free reign like they do in this segment.
pete was funny on the skits idk what happen to him
@@c9IceCream1 lead writers doesn't mean they get to decide what goes in the show. you don't know how much was thrown to trash bin and what only goes to tv. for every 10 ideas they have, 9 of them are rejected
I miss this kind of comedy existing just everywhere, it was like a breath of fresh air every day.
You need legion of skanks in your life.
Honesty has become comedy
Because today's culture has too many post-irony.
listen to cumtown
Did it exist everywhere though? if it did then it wouldn't be dark humor
Che and Colin writing jokes for eachother has literally been the best part of this show for years...
Bro I laughed so hard at that white joke by that black guy. Why was that so good lol😂😂😂
Dude it was savage. Most savage dark humor I have seen in awhile.
If you can joke about each other. You are all equal.
If you cannot joke about someone. They rule you.
The Superman jokes Che once had Collin say were the best.
nature is trying to heal. Comedy Gold.
Its not doing a every good job if you call this healing kinda looks its on its last legs
@@wisdomfox857 hey, with all the oppression ppl live nowadays, this is the best they could come up with. don't expect much when soy ppl has the power to cancel if they feel offended.
but one day for sure, we'll go back to 100%, or society will succumb into a wasteland ruled by punks, and there will be no Kenshiro to save us.
They saw that Shane Gillis had grown too powerful and they're now playing catch up
we are so back
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Rowan Atkinsons speech about humour and making our language more robust trumps all.
Jokes are not serious. That's why they're jokes. You should be able to joke about ANYTHING. You should be able to take jokes about yourself and make jokes about yourself.
The Black Widow joke killed 😂😂😂
Indeed, and for those who don't really get it: the joke is that he, indeed, is married to Scarlett Johansson.
@@MinscS2The joke is that none of us are married to Scarlett Johansson
@@Rysuko1 that's a sad joke.

Have you seen "World's Most Evil Invention" skit? Funniest thing SNL has ever done.
This is why I miss madtv so much it was good from the start.
This was amazing. SNL has always had a lot of hits & misses, but the hits usually was at this level. Hopefully they're finding back to their roots with this stuff, cus this is great.
The "skits" are always terrible, I've never found a funny one. Weekend update with Colin Jost and Michael Che is hilarious though, it's the only thing I watch on RUclips every week. For how boring and lame the rest of SNL is (I really don't understand it) " weekend update" remains amazing and never misses.
It's not hard to write these jokes either. They are funny simply because we haven't heard anything like this in a very long time.
This segment is probably the best part of SNL every single week they go so hard, much better than when they bring Sarah Sherman on to be weird
I didn't know her but after reading your comment and searching for it, I must say that I couldn't go through 10 seconds watching it.
jeez, what an annoying and weird person
they do it only once a season
@@imanmalek9341no they have a weekly segment of the show but the thing where they write jokes for each other is once a year
@@FRIESENBERGG yeah thats what i meant, i watch their segments all the times, even when they dont swap they are amazing
It killed me when he awkwardly held his fist out to her and she didnt reciprocate. 😂
It's been a long time since SNL was funny. This segment was actually good. It's refreshing.
Travis Kelce was funny, especially the part with his brother
They've been doing this skit for a couple years
They've been doing this bit for years. It's always savage af
@@ha-kh7ef pretty much this. SNL always has ebbs and flows. also depends heavily on the guest that week.
It’s good (the swapped joke segment) every year, so at least we have that.
I find how uncomfortable they were with making the jokes funnier than the actual “controversial” jokes.
yes that is the whole point
They're actors in a pre-written scene where they have to intentionally corpse to signal emotionally to other people to laugh...it's not like who's line where if they corpse its genuine. The discomfort is just an act.
They write each other's jokes and make them as uncomfortable as possible that's where the magic happens

That alone shows how pathetic USA become. Banning socialedia would quickly fix it.
no one in this video is risking their life
There are a few of these and they’re always hilarious. Genius premise to get some edgy comedy out in a time where everyone’s hypersensitive.
Wouldn't call it edgy comedy but just comedy. If we can't make fun of ourselves or each other then society hasn't evolved at all it's just getting weaker. I don't care how people live their lives just don't get your feelings hurt when your the but of the joke. If people can't handle that then they need to stay inside. Overall I agree with you.
The thing that the recreationally offended don't get, is that jokes like these improve race relations. It de-fangs racism by making a joke of it. If they really cared about stopping racism, they should be encouraging comedians making jokes about it, instead of trying to cancel them.
Right? I love how they’re suddenly acting like this is new
Pretentious cowards are too busy crying on Twitter 😂
I hope people don't honestly find this endearing, it's certainly a positive change for our times but don't ever forget this team of people and company were the ones at the head of the mob of pitchforks and torches actively trying to cancel every single person that would find this kind of humor funny. They're two-faced mouthpieces that will spew whatever garbage their bosses tell them to.
"y'all need Jesus" was the best non-joke. 😂😂
Funny but All too true.
Why do you think your religion is correct and others are wrong?
we muslims already have jesus unlike the other religions
Can’t we all love Jesus equally? No matter the religion?
Internet killed the joke in 2 replies. 🤷♂️
Weekend Update is the most popular/ viewed segment on SNL honestly so, it makes sense they would keep their comedy the same and never lose that fun edge between those two amazing joke writers / tellers.
Also I didn’t know Colin Jost was married to Scarlet Johansson so, that joke killed me 😂😂😂

These 2 have been carrying SNL for a long time. Usually the closest thing to goodl ol' comedy it gets on a normal week.
Colin and Michael are going to have horrible legs and backs when they’re old from carrying SNL on their backs.
Colin Jost and Michael Che are great together, and have been doing this "write each other's jokes" thing for awhile now. It's easily the best and most refreshing idea SNL has had in years.
I think they probably took the idea from when Bill Hader would read jokes out loud when they would try and make him break character because he would be reading jokes off of a big posterboard for the first time
1:49 The PANIC in his voice!🤣
It's crazy isn't it. Jokes end up being funny because they come off wrong which is why it's funny. Making light hearted fun of things even some more dark or twisted subject matter can be just funny. It's a way people do like to cope with darker subject matter. When you can make fun of something and take it less serious it's much easier to both connect people and find humor with it. It's why people who are soldiers or are doctors tend to enjoy dark humor as to lighten the mood since if its taken so seriously it can very quickly become depressing.
Dark humor is quite a good coping mechanism.
Dark humor used to be normal but to many people are to into their feelings these days. It used to be people were desensitized but now it's been taken to the opposite extreme which is being way into your feelings to where you can barely say the word stupid without getting completely Karened by a man or a woman. I guess we can just say social justice warrior. I also believe the whole pronoun thing is annoying as well. If you don't understand that somebody's trying to respect you with the words yes mam or yes sir then I would say you have a identity issue and people will joke around about that as well. Jokes are supposed to be funny and come from left field so the punchline hits hard and end up being funny.
There was a lot of darker matter to make light of in this skit.
"Humor is in the absurdity."
@@CRIMSON-FLAME1 even worse, they DO find it funny, but they PRETEND to be offended, because they discovered they can benefit from that.
I've seen many times some idiot laughing out loud, then catching himself, frowning and going "that's not funny" or apologizing. Terribly conditioned.
The joke swap is a tradition they have but for the first time Colin actually gave Che some brutal ones. Che is always trying to get Colin canceled or murdered 😂 while Colin goes for mild/college type humor. I'm glad to see he is learning. This was the best joke swap so far imo.
SNL is not terrible but it's very hit or miss. It's usually 4/10 sketches are actually funny 😅.
Please don't destroy and Weekend Update are the best part of the show imo.
Che also usually writes racial jokes so it's good to see he's diversifying lol
Holy sh!t dude..."the people who tell you what you can and can't say on the internet are the same people who get a panic attack when their phone rings"...bro the statement of the century
They do a segment like this every year, so I’m glad Asmon finally joined the party. They kill it every single time.
Ain't no way you consume this media all year every year
@@Silvers617 huh?
Weekly update has been the only good thing about SNL for pretty much 10 years now. Colin and Michael have been my favorite part of the show since like 2015. They’ve been doing this yearly bit for a while now, they should all be on YT somewhere
Wokeness ended comedy

i love how the lady refused to shake his hand in the end.
That Black Widow joke was incredible
20/10
It's actually a genius segment. The format almost prevents outrage because the person telling the joke is part of the punchline by the other comic putting them in that position.
If they could do this material once a week, show would be a hit. Not every joke lands, but the ones thatbdo are SO good
They literally do it once a week.
@@pluntchgunster6156 they do tegular jokes, not make each other read jokes to make each other try and be uncomfortable, no?

That Coretta Scott King joke was good
Comedy never left. The sense of humor has been severely malnourished for a minute tho.
The Black Superman bit never fails to make me snort with laughter every single time I see it.
The 3 black Superman bits are so good.
These guys are the only good thing about SNL and have been for a while now. They are legitimately hilarious.
“Soft” generation member here, people just want to be victims. Bring back comedy like that
I don't know. Maybe the problem was with delivery, or maybe I am too young/old/sensitive/edgy/uncultured (pick anything you want), but none of these made me even smile. Also, what was the point of that old lady being there?
Damn.. Ruthless jokes. I love it.
These guys are too funny; SNL's Weekend Update wouldn't be what it is without Norm Macdonald. He inspired these guys and had a special for him when he passed. RIP Norm, you are greatly missed.
I feel like this segment was honestly still pretty lame. I think a lot of people confuse the idea of being "soft" with simply not finding shock value race humor entertaining. I personally just dont find it interesting or witty and i think many others feel the same. Compare it to the standup crowd work of someone like stavros and youll see that this is just much more boring. Or look at how Shane Gillis approaches comedy with disabled people - the punchline is never so boring as "disability funny". This skit is literally just them trying to say things which sound a little racist for shock value. Thats it. Thats the entire joke. For every single joke. Over and over.
I see a lot of people now who seem to think the peak of comedy is basically just "n-word funny". The closer you get to saying the n-word, the funnier your "joke". If you dont agree with them then they cope by saying its not that their humor isnt very interesting or funny, its just that you're "soft". I feel like the comedy in this clip kinda is pretty close to that.
Exactly. Well said.
They do this every year and it’s always absolutely hilarious
Man, as funny as these jokes were I just can’t bring myself to like SNL after so many years of disappointment. I already grieved their downfall, I’m not going through that again
Still the same old loser in charge? Yeah I'm not interested. When is the last time an SNL cast member launched a huge career that everyone knows?
They've been doing these jokes for a couple of years now
these jokes werent good at all, unless you think the fact that its edgy makes it funny i guess
That black widow joke was actually pretty clever
I love offensive comedy, just because being allowed to be vulnerable is to be genuine, and allowing risks results to funnier jokes. It’s the only reason South Park has survived over 25 years.
Comedy about to blow up from all pent up jokes that couldn't be made for a while. Gonna be a funny time if they are allowed to continue. Sorely needed imo.
Jost said some CRAZY SHIT in front of a JEWISH RABBI
Yeah, this is a consistent thing lol saying it's back is like a weird take cause i can show you this exact thing happening and being this well made every year for the past 5 at least if not longer. Always weird to see people think things are so different when theyre easily provably the exact same lmfao
What’s funnier is Colin had no idea Dr. Hattie Davis is just a paid actor.
MAN, i have not relaxed like this in a very long while
Someone show him the Kendrick Lamar bit xD Che was ready to tap out after that one lol
I remember when the entire show was that funny, and not just a once-a-year skit.
That being said, this also proves they can actually do real comedy but are being instructed/coerced not to.
Comedy is about intent. If your intent is just "look at this, this is funny," then you can poke fun at whatever resembles reality. If your intent is "look at this, this shows I'm better than you," then it's an insult. This skit works because they are exchanging lines, so the audience won't perceive any real ill intents.
I hadn't laughed that hard from an SNL sketch in a long, long, long time. That was amazing.
Wow actually a funny segment from SNL. this is how black and white people used to get along guys. We made jokes and loved each other's differences and busted each other's balls about the stereotypes.
I've always loved weekend update, but these end of the year bits are always gold
Aren't they doing this segment for years?
Colin and Che are honestly the best part of SNL right now. No one will ever top Norm for offensive bold comedy, but when those two swap jokes, it is a riot.
This was the exact type of comedy I grew up with in the 2000s. It's offensive comedy. It's fine to get "offended" by it aslong as you realise at the exact same time that it's a joke and there is nothing malicious behind it. All jokes involved race and gender between a group of different race and gender yet none of them were there attacking each other at the end of it.... Because it's just for comedy it's harmless.
Sad that wokeness killed comedy. You just don't see things like this anymore
Colin and Micheal have consistently put out good stuff throughout the years.
I just wanna let ppl know that there’s millions of ppl out there who still joke like this everyday irl. U just aren’t seeing it as much online cuz everyone is so sensitive and everything is so hyper focused on all the sensitive crap
Ah the return of Comedy! it happens every now and then.
There's a big difference between making a joke about stupid stereotypes and spreading hate. Nothing wrong whatsoever with joking like this purely to make people laugh!
It's when such speech becomes malicious that the line gets crossed. That's just f*cked up.
This segment is why i still have hope for humanity.
OK hot take: humour is a defense mechanism against horrible stuff, so making a dark joke or laughing at it doesn't necessarily mean you agree with the topic. I don't condone grape or racism, but these jokes can be pretty funny because of the shock factor
Ive never thought i could get to see the day when the humor and comedy of the early 2000's will be relevant again. And oh boy am i happy to see it.
Oh now it’s safe to make fun of Disney and the MCU….
Was making fun of them back during the days when age of ultron was released, their cult was dangerous even back then.
Actually funny jokes 🎉
At the end the gentleman tried shaking her hand and she wouldn't do it!!!!!!!!👵💩not cool, I guess there will always be assholes and Racism within some people. I didn't expect that thou.
Bring this back, i haven't laughed this hard in years
"Humor is finally back"
No, it's always been here, you just find that racist humor tickles your pickle more than other humor does.
"i think comedy is back" yet this never went away, you just keep looking in the wrong place
The funniest part of this skit is that Dr Hattie Davis isn’t even real, it was a random person that Che brought in just to make Colin feel extra bad knowing he wouldn’t know who she was. Dudes prank game is S tier
Really. They makes it even funnier.
@@ryanmussell739 RIGHT!
TL;DR: Object permanence
I hate seeing stuff like this (bear with me) because people act like this stuff hasn't been around for ages, this isn't a new skit they've been doing this for over 6 years.
Comedy like this hasn't died, it never did, it just stopped showing up on you recommended.
Please try to take this into account next time you write something off as "dead" or "nobody makes the good stuff anymore". Most the stuff you're into you just haven't found yet or stop getting shown.
this duo has been pumping out content and keeping SNL alive for a while now
Its basically old Norm jokes in a modern context. Someone in the writing room finally go back and watch Norm?
i always love watching these 2 doing these jokes every year they are so good
It's wild how unfuny SNL as a whole is, while also having one of the best comedy segments on the air.
The reason this is funny as hell is because the jokes are actually funny and the swapping bit only makes it funnier because the offensive jokes make the teller cringe. I find most dark jokes unsavory because most of them aren’t actually funny by themselves, but they’re relying on the offense to make it seem funnier to people who aren’t part of the group.
Dark jokes aren't unsavory. It's just you don't have a sense of humor.
Dark jokes tend to be polarizing since as it requires a lack of malice and also understanding between the one making the joke and the one on the receiving end of it.
man that black old women was so ofended... she didnt even want to touch that guy, disgusting she shouldnt be anywhere near education or kids.
Comedy is not back it's just an end of the year thing where the hosts write for each other trying to make the other guy look as bad as possible , the did the same last year.
Life killed hummor in me... didn't find anything funny in that clip.
Last joke i made was in middle school and im close to 40 now.
Until now I haven't actually laughed (without having to force myself) at SNL in like a decade.

So many people commenting "oh wow this is fresh and new and wow."
They have been doing this FOR YEARS

Have you never seen these two? Swapping jokes is by far the funniest part of SNL now
SNL is only a theoretical comedy
So these guys stole a bunch of jokes from Norm McDonald and Dennis Millar got it.
