- On Thursday January 18, hardline Cuban American Rep. María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) told Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) she couldn't join a House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee hearing on Cuba.
Salazar accuses Cuba's government of stifling free speech while doing the same to Lee, a Black woman who advocates lifting the embargo.

Just like I have been saying for years, it's the Cuban American politicians from Florida responsible for keeping sanctions on Cuba, not the President or the Congress per se. This is a great example.

Barbara Lee is a legend, the only elected representative to vote against going to war under the Bush administration. She's correct on the Cuba issue, too.

Barbara Lee statement read, "The Obama Administration’s effort to engage Cuba offered real hope that "the Cuban people might have the chance to finally determine their own destiny, free from the meddling of either the US or Cuban governments"[WTF!?]. While politicians in "Washington and Havana continue their petty squabbles"[WTF"!?], it’s the Cuban people who are paying the price."
[edit.] The Cuban people elect their own government which makes sure no body is left uncared for and everyone has the right to food, housing, education and healthcare unlike the USA. The US blockade of Cuba is no petty squabble as evidence by the UN vote 185-2 to condemn it. Barbara Lee has lost touch with reality when she makes statements like these. The Democratic leadership is rudderless.
