- Kartoffel is a wild species called Mahachai betta.
Everything’s going well so far. Kartoffel’s tail did become a spade shape. He has settled in quite well. He decided that he didn’t like the shrimp anymore and partially ate all of them. He was fine with them for about 3 weeks, then all of sudden, it happened all within a day or two. I’m curious about how long the sweet potatoes will last in this tank, too.
I trained my betta by showing his food before feeding, every day.
I cut the roots too much at one point. It took a long time for the sweet potatoes to recover.
There were so many awesome names in the last video’s comment section!!! I’ve never heard such an amazing betta names. I think it’s the best collection of betta names in the world! Thank you all for participating.

I got a free beta from Petco cause they were gonna throw it out he was all messed up. He lived 4 more years his name was Nemo cause he lost most of his right fin some of his left and some tail but he was a trooper
@@DollsSolver as a rule I dont buy Betts from pet store because they are so badly mistreated if people stop buying them they'll stop selling them. There is a breeder near me that takes very good care of them and I've seen his setup but I didnt wanna let them throw it out when he was still alive

I want a setup like this but as soon as i read “weekly water change” i got over it.
BORN IN SALT it’s possible to have set ups that don’t require water changes. you just have to have the right balance of fish, plants, and detritus eaters. I’ve been running a 5gal planted tank for three years and no water changes.
You don't have to do weekly water changes. If your tank has a balanced ecosystem, you can do monthly or less water changes. This can, of course, take a while as your tank slowly establishes what it needs. Just check your ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate weekly. If the parameters are good, no need to do a water change.
This person seems to do 50% weekly, but when my tank was newly cycled, I only did 10-25% and that's not a lot of work, especially since it's just a nano tank.

@@busyrand Just do lots of research before you get started and especially before you buy anything. There are lots of products out there that are designed to be cheap, and won't actually be a good home for your fish. I'd recommend looking into the Walstad method, and really planning out what you need before you spend money, because it's really easy to make stray purchases that you won't use/don't need, and it's important to be completely prepared before you start an aquarium.
That said, the aquarium hobby is super fun, relaxing, and fulfilling and I highly recommend it. A local fish store is a great place to start if you can find one near you - otherwise there are tons of great online resources!

Sweet potatoes look nutrient deficient. Looks like a general deficiency, the stems are super purple so adding a general nutrient 1-1-1 with some magnesium and micro should fix it... all the growth should be a light green.
If you cut too many roots, take some of the foliage off to counter balance the loss.
Eventually the fish waste would replace that in the water- I think that is supposed to be the idea. Organic balance. Although a squirt or so of vermicompost liquid would probably work as well.

Heavily planted tanks are best for bettas, if you want to quickly fill it, try hornwort and java moss. Make sure the tank is at least 10 gallons, preferably a 20 gallon long (not tall). Hope I helped!

It’s just absolutely mesmerizing to me how he’s actually quite literally creating life out of two potatoes, some rocks, some sand thing and water. It’s pure bliss to see how things that are so basic like an actual potato to come to life, BREATH and grow. Life is amazing. This person is amazing.
You can harvest the leaves and cook them! They are delicious with a little bit of olive oil and soy sauce.

So happy to see these fish being cared for instead of just floating in a bare bowel. This fish has plants, live food, tank mates, places to explore and hide, proper water paramaters, daily activities and a good owner. Two thumbs up.
Your acquariums are a work of art. As a Child I had many acquariums. I would take at books from the library and and read about various fish. Your videos bring back good memories. I could sit for hours watching the movements of the fish. The lives of these various creatures fascinated me and thats how I feel watching your videos.
I love your videos and how you care about those animals and plants. A truly lover that study every detail. Also you remind me the same passion that my father had too. I remember watching him changing the water of the tank and everytime splash everything out hahaha he was so clumsy and funny to watch. But in his little world, he did care about those little friends. Clever use of the rock anchor for the Hornwort; also I hadn't seen a sweet potato used before. I tended to favor Water Lettuce or Water Hyacinth for the 'roots in the water' angle. Obvious and ingenious.

Almond leaf slight colours the water, the roots of the sweet potatoes feed and absorb nitrogen/nitrite levels from the tank water as theres no filter plus it adds nice decor inside and outside the tank.
