1. There's that center hub thing that gives the wheel something to rest on. Regular cars don't have that. So they don't have to have wheel aligned when placed on the hub. 2. After that, the wheel only needs to be turned a few degrees for the holes to match the studs. 3. Practice.
Worth noting that the new NASCAR cars only use a single lug per tire, a la F1. The amount of time to tighten that one lug is about the same as the five before.
I see in NASCAR today they have a guy rip off a layer of the windshield? This video dosnt mention that guy. Is this new did they use to have a guy just squiggy it real quick if it was dirty?
They applies a bunch of thin layers of plastic that can be ripped off giving the driver a clean windshield. I reckon they thought the long pole with a squeegee was another obstacle or hazard.
how do the lugnuts stay on the wheel when they throw the new ones back on? Are the studs not threaded that far out? I know it doesn't matter much since they use one lug nut now but I've always been curious.

Exactly, plus F1 mechanics know metric so they're faster AND smarter.
@@zen1647 WTH does that have to do with any race car pit stops?
Just a question. If you double the crew can you do both sides at the same time?
That's how it works in a lot of racing series, but it's illegal to have more than 5 crew members over the wall in NASCAR for safety reasons.

Very impressed.. The video answered a few questions that I did wonder about beforehand..
I thought the regular footage of this pit stop IS slow motion compared to F1 pit stops.
Of course F1 huge crew, 1 lug nut per, no refuel.
newer NASCAR cars also have 1 lug so it's faster than in this video.
what happens if the tire changer strips the lug threads?
The lug nuts are usually glued in! It could happen but not very likely

New sub 👍 liked
But how are the lug nuts held in place on the new tire?
They glue the lug nuts to the wheel of the new tire. The adhesive is just strong enough to hold them until they are torqued on.

They are down to like 30lbs
They actually are 75lbs with the inner liner (used only at speedways) non liners are about 60-65lbs the new mono lug wheels are 45-50 lbs
It’s not 90lbs a tire/wheel. It’s half that (closer to 50). No wheel man is running with 180lbs over the wall.

Why don't they start on the other side? Why don't they do two at once?

This guy was annoying with the number of inaccurate numbers he spat out.
Honestly 16.6 is on the slower side for a 4 tire stop normally it can get closer to 12-13
the newer cars have a single lug per tire, not 5 like in this video, that makes a difference.
