I think the biggest issue is people owning these that can’t maintain them properly…. Then they take to someone on the corner that is a hack job, or doesn’t maintain them. Then they seem unreliable. Quite safe and actually look at BMW at the top of the reliability ratings the last few years!

I had a 2006 330xi, just a straight-inline six cylinder. Got it to 200 thousand miles with basic preventative maintenance and some of that I could do. The alternator on that took me 20 minutes as it was RIGHT in the front and needed nothing else to be "unbolted". A twin turbo, 7 series, and BMW is a dangerous set of words.

I have this same car, 2009 BMW 750Li with 69k miles now. I love it car has an absolute split personality...
In comfort mode it's super relaxing, when you put it in Sports mode...lord it is a straight rocket 🚀! It has no business being that fast lol
With that being said I was driving home, in Sports mode the other night. And when I parked up...car was shaking crazy. Long story short it seems like one of my O2 upstream sensors went bad
I have that same tool the Car Ninja used, to take out the sensors on top of the turbos. You can't get them out any other way it seems, have 2 oxygen sensors coming tomorrow
Luckily they're super easy to change. This engine is difficult to work on, as you can see lol. But bad oil & heat absolutely kills these engines, you MUST keep fresh oil...and I wrapped my coolant lines & PCV valves in heat tape. To keep them cool
Lovely car when it's maintained & well cared for...feel like a Boss everytime you get out of it 🕴🏾
Oh also AT-205 will rejuvenate your valve stem seals, if they're not too far gone. So you won't have to pay $2k to change them

I’m not sure what your policies are when it comes to major tear downs such as this one or perhaps even bigger ones, but a lot of shop owners, including the car wizard by the way, have a policy that if something is bound to break or go bad such as belts, hoses, timing chain guides, you name it if he’s doing a big job like that, he will quote you for replacement parts on those or he won’t do the job and that’s for liability reasons in case it goes bad later on down the road and then you get an angry call. We’ve all been there before and nobody wants to be in that predicament.

  • @billymania11

It's clear that Germans go overboard on complexity and don't favor repairability. The poor mechanics simply have to accept the difficulty of repairing this stuff. With all due respect for your opinion: it is not BMW's fault that the most likely numerous previous owners were not prepared to have the vehicle properly maintained. Anyone can buy a BMW 750 cheaply. But to have it serviced to specification costs money. It is a luxury vehicle. You can't drive it for the price of a Chrysler. Yes, you're right. Of course, there are differences in design. Not everything that BMW has built in recent years is designed to be workshop-friendly, but it is well thought out. If you want to drive a vehicle like this, you have to take into account from the outset that it will be expensive fun. If everything works and is well maintained, this car is a fantastic automobile.

    • @hokie9910
      @hokie9910 6 месяцев назад

@@JLeman-me1xh I appreciate your opinion as well but I disagree. There is a reason that BMWs have one of the worst depreciation rates of any automaker, it’s because they fall apart. It pains me to say this because my family was a BMW family in the 80s and early 90s, and then Lexus hit the market and it was all over for the German manufacturers. Mercedes and BMW actually admitted in 1995 I believe it was, that they could not figure out how to make a car that rivaled the LS 400 for the same price. I’m sorry, but for as much as a 750 cost new, they should be able to make it more durable. Yes, this car was obviously not well taken care of but again, if we look at depreciation rates over 10 years from new, BMWs tell their own story and it’s not a pretty one. I hope that one day they make a car as well as they did when I was a child, I dearly loved those 1980s 325 and 535s.

And that is me maintaining the car’s meticulously. All the other cars I’ve had have gone over 200k miles. I’ve always told anyone that’s asked me that if you want to try one of these auto brands go lease one and get it out of your system but do not buy for the long term. I buy cars, maintain them and drive them until they die. Makes no sense financially to be in and out of a car every couple/few years.

Looks pretty typical of what you find on secondhand cars...overtightened bolts (very common), missing bolts (found several on my current car), wrong bolts, cross-threaded bolts (found 3 so far on my current car) broken clips and missing engine undertrays (yes it was missing on my current car). Great job Ninja!

😂 OMG he had to do the automotive equivalent of open heart surgery just to change a little gasket to fix an oil leak! That is completely bonkers. "German engineering" peaked in the 1980's folks! 😂

Do you think BMWs in Europe are better maintained? They are a bit more reliable here I think due to better owners maintenance (generally speaking)

Aren't a lot of bmws in europe diesel? That immediately makes them more reliable in general.

@@WayToManyAssassins yes and no. Diesels are becoming less popular in Europe due to emissions regulations and modern diesels have many add ons to scrub the exhaust which makes them more complicated and in many cases, less reliable
