    You have the best assembly videos. Most others spend more time filming themselves instead of the machine and the steps. Very well done!

    I agree it was time to step back and take a break. I'm impressed with the amount of logic and testing built into the printer firmware. I think aligning the toolheads would be a nightmare without it.

It is already late and I'm going to bed, but at least I made some progress, thanks to you. And thank you for putting quotes to the word "fully assembled". I too paid for a "fully assembled" printer. :) Hopefully everything will be all right soon.

    That is a lot of work to get your mostly assembled printer going. If you think you should take a break, then take a break. I always find things go much smoother if I am not tired or frustrated.

      its the most minimal amount of work possible.
      having the LCD and tool heads installed from the factory would almost double the packaging size which would more than double the shipping cost and it would add 6 possible things to break during transit.
      Also you would still need to re calibrate everything because you can be sure things will be shifting a bit during transit.
      so overall this is the optimal solution.

    I couldn't tell if you did on all 5 docks, but be sure to use the tool, or a flathead screwdriver, to make sure the two pics are nice and tight. If they loosen from un/docking, it will crash. Not sure what's up with the offset calibration failures, but make sure all the nozzles are secure in their nextruders, and all plugs are secure in their receptacles. Also, the USB comes with updated firmware on it, so if you haven't seen it flash new firmware again since the first boot, reset with the USB still inserted to make sure it checks and updates. Also, some people who have had similar issues, went ahead and updated to the alpha firmware and got it working.

    • @tada3dprinting
      @tada3dprinting  10 месяцев назад

      Yeah I was wanting to know what things were like before updating. Now I do want to flash the firmware. I may try that out a bit and then try out the Alpha. Thanks!

    It's a classic situation: The thing you wanted to get done real quick turns out to be far more time consuming than anticipated. But you waited so long already and are eager to see it working, now that you are so close to the finish line.
    If at this point something doesn't work as expected, that's the best moment to just let it sit and take a break. If there was any mistake on your side, that break will make your brain automatically retrace all the steps, while the process is still in your short term memory and you are likely to find out, what, if anything you did wrong. From watching I'd say you did everything right. Maybe, like someone else mentioned, you forgot to tighten the docking pins with that small handle/tool, maybe the cable bundle on tool 5 being more straight than the others means there is some twist or tension in that bundle and it might help to take cable and tube out of those orange clips, straighten everything and put it back in (just a wild guess).
    Look at it like that: you have some more time to be exited for the great moment to come and you wouldn't have printed anything impressive at that time anyway.
    So far you did a great job at assembling your "fully assembled" five-head (gotta say I'm quite a bit jealous). Also you did great on the MK4 and the MMU3.

    Pretty weird flukes at the beginning, I've also had a random hotend fan failure on my MK4 when running the selftest, but after running it plenty of times again I couldn't reproduce it. Possiblly just a firmware bug

    You did the right thing of taking a break.
    And you are fare more resistant against frustration than I am as I probably would have packed everything back up and sent it back after the first crash and reboot of the machine. Yes, it is a complex product. Yes, there are continuous improvements. But no, the product should not be "bananaware" and mature / become good at the customer. The introduction of the XL has already been delayed for far too long for that, and if there are still full crashes after years of development work, my trust would be gone.
    I still haven't converted my pre-order into a real order - and the more videos I watch, the more I'm leaning towards waiting a few more weeks. While I don't really want to cancel, if this doesn't start getting better...
    For a not exactly cheap printer I would have expected more... Come on, Prusa, you can do better!

  • @wilsistermans1118
    @wilsistermans1118 10 месяцев назад

    Setting up the XL is quite a tedious job. For a 5 tool XL it takes about 25 minutes if you do it right the first time. I had to try four times. It is all about the right tension on screws and the right timing for touching the nozzels. Don't apply any pressure on the build plate during the whole proses. Just read the text on the screen carefully and exactly do what it says within a reasonable amount of time.
    After the initial install the XL is running flawless and very reliable. The only downside is some stringing with the tool changes.

    • @tada3dprinting
      @tada3dprinting  10 месяцев назад

      Have you been able to minimize the stringing? Thanks so much!

    • @wilsistermans1118
      @wilsistermans1118 10 месяцев назад

      @@tada3dprinting The newest firmware does reduces stringing by a faster retraction speed and a little movement of the toolhead. The little blobs that came with the tool changes are completely gone.
      I set the retraction before a tool change to 2.5 mm (PETG 3 mm). This does reduce stringing at the side of the print even more. At the purge tower there is stil a lot of stringing.
      Stringing is a disadvantage of tool changing and can not be prevented. Strings are now easy to remove with a heat gun.

    Unfortunately... I would have kept going. I think it's some sort of OCD. A nagging itch in my brain that says, "the problem is small just 1 more minute, change 1 little thing it will work". 5 hours later. Many small changes and I find out the machine is good, just some good old user error. Forgot to plug 1 thing in...
    Or my favorite, i once replaced a screw on my extruder mount. It went a little too far and lined up just right to prevent my hemera extruder gear from turning. A new motherboard and new extruder later not to mention countless hours of disassembling and rebuilding... only to find that 120 dollar screw... i swear it was laughing at me. Got a shorter one and I was back in business. On the plus side I got to replace the loud fans. It's all whisper quiet now.
