This is kinda anecdotal, but I had a small hand with coming up with content for this game during it's early access phase and I'm pleased with how it turned out.
@@AudreyAdz During early access, the developer held discussions for what could be added as new content, a suprising amount of my suggestions became bedrock content for this game, most directly is the "fountain of life" achievement, cannibals and a lot of the content found in the park area.
@@tombotr That's really fucking cool. Rogue is such a dynamic and open game, I feel like literally everyone who plays it has an idea or two to add to it so it's extra extra cool that your ideas actually got implemented.
Man I love streets of rogue, I have the character pack, a few different custom characters I made, I’ve unlocked all the items, traits, and mutators. I still play this game, especially with friends.
@@Kusuriuri-San0007 Once you unlock vampire class and zombie class just make a custom character with zombi perk and vampire bite. You will br able to refill HP by biting people and when they die they become part of your army.
This the most fully developed game I’ve ever encountered. Even the minor glitches I’ve come across have left me feeling like they could just be intentional. Every element of the world is well-purchased and has a point. It feels so tight, clean and well oiled that it runs like a perfect machine. And that was somehow before any dlc even came out! I’ve almost finished every class on switch version and it’s one of the most fun games I’ve ever played. The developers clearly had a beautiful idea and they hit it out of the park with charm, comedy, creativity, and freedom that I’ve seldom seen in many other games I’ve played prior. Cannot express my enjoyment enough!
oh and for me it’s super fun to role-play. Like make a custom character after someone from another game. Like Mike Haggar from the old Final Fight games running to be elected to mayor by cleaning up the streets, using the throw special trait, anti-gang traits, with the no patrolling cops mutator with your job being to clean up the streets from gang violence and drugs.
I'm happy someone got to talk about this game. I wanted too but didn't have any means of getting all the footage. It is a seriously slept on game. Hopefully when SOR2 comes out it'll make a bigger burst so more people get to enjoy this game
One of the only games I've literally never uninstalled from my Switch memory card for the entire time I've had it. Such a cool game! Helps that it's only like 500Mb lol. (the multiplayer looks super sick too, if only I had friends 😂)
Imo, SoR is one of the greatest indie titles ever. It has literally infinite replayability, limitless character customization, online and local co-op, mod support (and encouragement!), and you have many quests and purposes to engage in.
I really like how this game turned out. I remember playing a very early version of it where there were only 6 floors in total (the slums and industrial)
BECAUSE people were sick and tired of « rogue » games and everything with roguelike or roguelite in the title or description was discarded by many. BUT Streets of Rogue is sooooooo good and you don’t replay levels with tiny marginal upgrades, you replay the levels in a totally new way, the game is insane!
This reminds me of the first GTA it was madness and kinda silly but under it all was a deep deep game that was doing things no other game was doing. Look at gta now...I'm late af to this but glad I'm here.
This game is shockingly varied, even by roguelite standards. I played A LOT of roguelikes/roguelites over the years, and none of them were even close to being as varied as this. The binding of isaac aint got sht on this game's chaos, that game's rather tame by comparison.
Great video! Such an appropriate summary. I play a lot of indie games. Streets of Rogue impressed me. TinyBuild did so much to make the game for the pure enjoyment of the player. I love roguelikes. Though, I'm a bit of a purist. I'm usually adverse to rogueLITES. But Streets of Rogue does it different. Instead of trying to give the hardcore rogue experience, it gives us a playground. The irony is that the game isn't even necessarily challenging. It only gets challenging when you &^%$ around. It's like a chinese fingertrap of fun. You almost have to stop yourself from having too much of a good time in order to get to the end. The progression is great. The devs already had plenty of character and item unlocks to keep us occupied for a dozen hours. But then they were like: %*$# it, give them our debug menu to unlock. Let them break the game the more they play it. Co op is perfect. Every game is better with a friend. But it's extremely rare that the mechanics and pacing remain intact when players are added. Streets of Rogue is one of the few video games I've played in which co-op (ignoring the social fun factor) feels like a lateral option to solo. Having someone with you does not make the game inherently easier nor harder. It's a double edged sword that is reliant on how you and your buddies work together. And the dynamic engine is ripe for making cooperative gameplay fun reguardless of whether you're cooperating or sabatoging. I am very excited for Streets of Rogue 2. Having this formula expanded into an open world would be just too much fun. _GTA, but if it was good???_
I'm worried the sequel will be some sort of Epic exclusive because of the hype and anticipation, which is really the scariest thing. If it's not, it'll be the best game on steam in a long time, though.
I just bought it. I tried playing as a hacker, but if you have anything, all these robots come out of nowhere and you have to avoid them or they shoot on sight. It makes it not seem worth using it.
it's because you are installing the malware on a computer which lets the robots out, it's for his big quest, you shouldn't just istall the malware right away. Just dont do it or do it right before ending a level
I made the mistake of thinking the 50% chance for an alarm was the robots when I first played him too. They are specific to his big quest which is to upload malware.
I don’t think it’s underrated because the people who’ve played it seem to love it. Personally I rank it with FTL in terms of how it draws me back in after I’ve not played fir a while. I think under-exposed is more accurate… it really feels like more people should be aware of it and it should definitely be in the discussion when the topic of rogue-adjacent independent games comes up.

Sometimes too much freedom can be off-putting, especially in a roguelike
