A few years before Mr.Perkins passed, I was assigned to be his temporary caretaker.
I loved taking him down to 6th St, Austin Texas. We always got celebrity status when we arrived.
Mr.Perkins was an amazing man. And he loved to show his living room walls, covered with pictures of him and famous people, and Presidents and politicians.
He would always tell me that he "came from the honey". And to be honest, I still don't know what that meant.
    I do miss him.

I met Pinetop in July of 2000 in Lexington Ky at a Blues Festival, he was gracious & genuinely humble, an incredible man, touched by God, still on the road, sharing his gifts, collecting the jewels in his crown.
Someday I hope to walk into an old honky tonk in heaven for a cold beer, and see him singing at the piano, and hear him say, "I remember you"

Pinetop played at the Fredericton Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival in 1996. Our grand-daughter was born in Ontario as he was finishing his set. I was on the plane to Toronto with him on Sept. 15 as he returned to Chicago and I went to hold my new grandchild. It was an honour to share a plane ride with him. Fabulous musician and a truly humble human being.

Rest in peace, may your heavenly music play on and on and on, thank you for your contribution mate

What a wonderful comment Betsy, those were the best times when friends or family would gather around a piano. When I was young, every bar or pub had a piano and you could walk in and start playing and the next thing everyone gathered around. Now you hardly ever see a piano in bar. Merry Xmas

If you can believe wikipedia, then what I really wanna know how the hell he got into a knife fight with a chorus girl. Man, she must have been one tough mama. Not your typical chorus girl I guess if she's packing a blade. And what chorus? like a church chorus? did they often gig at places where they needed knives? Did he ever write a tune about that?
