I've been self learning Resolve for a while now and came upon your beginners guide. There was so much I didn't know, or workflow processes I was going about the long way. Thanks for this series!
Casey is the only content creator I have unlimited patience for. I'll watch his videos about green screening even if I don't need to, because I'll probably learn something useful anyway.
Every single tutorial Ive found for this was extremely drawn out and I thought surely there's an easier way. I gave up looking and trying until today. Thank you for making my life easier.
LIFE SAVER I search for DaVinci Resolve tutorials all the time and I always end up on your channel, not even on purpose. But you explain things so well!
This is the video that convinced me I should actually sign up for your Davinci Resolve training. I'm looking forward to getting more in-depth without having to do YT searches for everything! Thanks for all you've shared on YT !
I know you posted this 3 years ago, but it helped me do green screen keying with Resolve 19. Very simple and easy to follow....not cosmic. Thanks for the assistance. 👏🏾
Oh my god I love you. I just watched two other videos with CRAZY ways to do this that ended up looking terrible. I love how you say which toolbars need to be open too! That can be so confusing in Davinci!!! You made my night!!! :)
This was so wonderfully helpful. Thank you so much for making and sharing this! I didn't realize I was still using Resolve 15.x, so after updating, everything made so much more sense :D
Love your videos! They have helped me out quite a bit for things I did not know how to do, or brushing up on something in Resolve I haven't used in a while. And thank you for always getting RIGHT to the point in your videos and not taking 20 minutes to explain something that can be said in 4 minutes. Thanks much and I wish you the best!
I don’t know if you still need this question answered but if you go to Inspector>effects>Usage Options>Uncheck “Show Paths”. That will remover the lines/paths.
Hi, Just FYI, this no longer applies to the new version so a bunch of people are looking at this wondering why it's not working. Might be good to do a follow up video.
i was having trouble getting it to clean up due to the fact that we used a whiteboard instead of a green screen, but soon as i bumped up the softness to max it came out nearly perfect. thanks for the guide!
I have no idea how or why people like this program. now that I have given up on premiere I am doing everything in my power to try and work with this program and it is so un-user friendly and clunky. Not to compare but in Premiere it took me 3 minutes to learn the green screen. Going on 12 minutes now with Resolve and I think I finally got it, but it's odd, and not well developed. It eventually works but I can see myself having to go back and re-edit the green screen time and time again. Sigh... what other programs should I consider?
This video brought me to your channel as I am a amateur RUclipsr and do it for fun currently. This was super helpful to me and I have subbed so that I can learn from your other videos also. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
So your tutorial got me to the right area. I did a 3D animation of a baseball being thrown. I basically didn't touch the Despiller at all. Just green screened via 3d Keyer and set the In/Out Ratio to -100. Granted, this worked for a baseball, idk how it'll work with hair fibers and other things. It definitely cleaned up the ball a lot, removed any aliasing that the 3D Keyer introduced when removing the green screen.
Yes, DaVinci Resolve 17 makes green screen effect easy. In fact I made a commercial for a beer using green screen and just a mobile phone and Resolve 17. Results were awesome.
Hi Casey, I am transitioning from Premiere and I have stumbled on something that is hindering m workflow, I need your help. I need to do a multicamera editing with two green screen footage. In premiere I used to accomplish that by Nesting the keyed sequence and then I'd sync and create a multicamera one with the two camera shot already keyed. Then I would make the cuts and switch the cameras. How could I make in it in Davinci? Thanks in advance.
Mr. Casey Faris, I thank you once again. Smashed the LIKE BUTTON. This was such an easy and quick tutorial and it worked so Well. So I actually used the white wall in my garage as a "green screen" and it still worked just as well as a green screen! looks great. Thanks for all your videos man!
It’s in the free version. Look for the little box shaped graphic. (Hint: That word “FX” next the little box shaped graphic only appears after you’ve selected “show fx overlay”.) That threw me too when I was trying to find it. Cheers mrC
Great video. Went into detail, I was able to make a really good green screen edit using whats in this video plus a little bit of other adjusting. Honestly the best greenscreen video tutorial I have found.
This is awesome. I tried in all kinds of different tools but only DaVinci Resolve did a decent job in cuttin it out. Especially if you don't have a stock footage clip like Nana thinks but rather something you have recorded under the best conditions that are avaialble to you, your footage is probably worse in regards to quality. Hence the Resolve process really works like a charm.
AMAZING!!! Thank you very much although casey taught beginner tutorials but i used the way casey was able to complete CGI and VFX projects to complete the green screen very, very badly for the famous streaming show.
Can you also do this for a loop video as the background and then your face with the green screen removed ? I'm trying to edit my talking head without having the infinite loop video be cut with my talking head so that it's less jarring for the viewer.

great, now its not working anymore... i really am starting to hate this program.
This is great- it looks way better than adding an Alpha channel in the Color tab, THANKS!!!
isn't alpha channel used when there is no green screen?
@@pvdg3515 may be he meant Alpha output
hahah tell me about it

Casey - thanks AGAIN. I enjoy your clean clear delivery and snide comments. Even tho I am miles behind, please keep at this!

I'm going to start playing around with a green screen on our cat videos, I had no idea Resolve makes it this easy to do!
Works wonders if I just want a clean cut on one specific colour cut out like a simple loading gif. Blessed
A dozen thumbs-up. This definitely opens up some new doors for me. Thanks Case!
Yet once again, YOU DA MAN! Thx!
I can't find 3D Keyer effect in my Davinci Resolve 17 version 17.4.6, any idea why ?

This might sound dumb but how exactly did you take marking lines out at (appears at 2:57 / no longer appears at 3:04)?
I don’t know if you still need this question answered but if you go to Inspector>effects>Usage Options>Uncheck “Show Paths”. That will remover the lines/paths.
Casey... All I'm saying is thanks mate, this is really going to help me out!
DUDE the DESPILL BUTTON i love you Casey

WOWSERS so easy and so awesome - I LOVE these videos Casey thanks so much!!
Thanks for the video, Casey. She is one beautiful Granny. I will try this as a beginner.
Thanks Casey, appreciate this tip. I'm trying to swtich from Premiere Pro to Resolve but this was my first challenge

I wasn’t thinking I needed a green screen but glad to know it’s there
Thanks so much Casey! I really appreciate how you zoom in so that I can see what you are doing.
This was so easy! Thank you so much for the tutorial, having a lot of fun now!

This is very clear, but my problem is that my interface looks very different to yours and I can't find the "Open fx overlay" option.
probably cuz you are using free version?
@@syakirinhairilazmi4513 Wouldn't he say that in the video?
The Open fx Overlay dropdown is in the Edit tab now. Don't know why that changed it, but they did ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This video helped way more than expected!!
How do I change the black part to an actual image?
found the video very useful, Thank you Casey!
The FX button isnt there for me, any suggestions?
What if we don't have "Open FX Overlay" because we use a free version of Resolve?
It’s in the free version.
Look for the little box shaped graphic.
(Hint: That word “FX” next the little box shaped graphic only appears after you’ve selected “show fx overlay”.)
That threw me too when I was trying to find it.

Very cool, thanks for sharing. I had to rewind beck a few times but got it on at the end.
I'm not at my computer to open resolve, but does the free version lock you out of being able to do this?
Super Thumbs up, Bro. Your video helped me A LOT. Thanks
I was able to create a nice green screen, my boss was impressed! Thanks!

That blue line is still on my screen, how do I get rid of it?
I have that as well. I've watched this video many times, and he skips over that step.
I know this is a bit older, but hopefully someone can answer this..Does the main vid have to be vid 2, and the pic you are imposing vid 1?
quick and helpful, thank you
thank you for keeping it simple. im putting a clip of my cat behind a sequencer for fun!
wow great Thank you ...and how to copy a 3d effect i mean green screen settings to an other clip ..?
AMAZING!!! Thank you very much although casey taught beginner tutorials but i used the way casey was able to complete CGI and VFX projects to complete the green screen very, very badly for the famous streaming show.
i dont see the open fx dropdown menu
same, you found any solution?
Hood video easy to follow, but how do you do an adjustment clips pls.
Thank you
How do you make the green screen smaller without it cropping the background
with ur green screen selected, in the inspector tab in the top left, u click on the video instead of effects and adjust the zoom and position
Can you also do this for a loop video as the background and then your face with the green screen removed ? I'm trying to edit my talking head without having the infinite loop video be cut with my talking head so that it's less jarring for the viewer.
This helped. Thank you Rentoid.
Is this on the free version? Before I start something that I couldn’t finish
