    Ed, I am a fan. Just saying. And it is February 24. So either you are still busy finishing it up ("it" being the pond OR the video!!) or construction has pushed the opening back. Just want you to know folks are very excited about this one!

    Love the video.. I think you should get a camera that has video stabilization because otherwise it is really difficult to follow the video with the camera being shaky

    I'm building a huge aquascape pond myself! You can see it in my latest video. I'm an ecosystem developer, permaculture designer and build food forests to replace lawns. I can't wait for my aquascape pond to be the center of my multiple food forests, and would love you guys to come see it next year if you make a rotation into Canada to visit Joe Genovese again - he is doing my pond and is a previous designer of the year. He does to ponds what I do to terrestrial plantings.
    I will also have some neat thigs that you maybe haven't seen before, such as Terra Preta mimicking soils using compost innoculated biochar - a 1000 year legacy building soil amendment.
    Feel free to check out my latest "grass sucks" video. My top 3 trees video also discusses my aquascape pond quite a bit.
    Love the channel Ed, keep pumping out awesome content. I would to do a collaboration and maybe give each others channels a shout out here and there, and expose pond people to permaculture and permaculture people to aquascape ecosystem ponds.

      Canadian Permaculture Legacy That’s Great!!!
      Would love to work with you!
      When is Joey doing the pond?
      I’m familiar with Terra preta but I’ve never done it personally.

      @@edbeaulieu5916 Joe is roughly half done, finishing the rest in the spring. My project is a roughly 30x40 rec pond, with all the normal ecosystem pieces, wetland filter, overflow skimming edge, reservoir, etc. The key for me will be that I'm going to use the pond as a fertility builder (hyacinth, azola) which for some people can be unwanted (hyacinth not invasive here, azola will be farmed extremely regularly as compost activator for fertility, and trying to mimic the historically great carbon capuring azola event).
      My wetlands and waterfall areas will be used as plant propagation tools to photocopy free money from my food forest, and grow nursery stock of trees.
      My level overflow will be used to charge and innoculate biochar as a 1000 year soil amendment.
      And most importantly the pond itself will be an amplifier for insect diversity, that are security force for pests. Dragonflies alone will team up with ladybugs and green lacewings to keep apples, pears, persimmons, paw paws pest free.
      I am going to do stuff with my aquascape pond that possibly none of your other clients have ever done before. I am going to turn it into the beating pumping heart of a 1000+ tree 7-layer food forest permaculture ecosystem.
      Plus, the pond will be endless eye candy for my videos - to attempt to change the culture of our world away from sodgrass lawns and towards decentralized food sovereignty and self sufficiency - by raising house values, increasing personal health, and making some cashflow in the process. I suppose in other words, to showcase to gardeners the benefits of living the aquascape lifestyle.
      It would be great if you guys did make it up here at some point. You and I particularly are cut from the same cloth :)

      @@edbeaulieu5916 oh and just regarding the azola, it is likely I will be using the nutrient in the pond water to grow it (and the azola to filter and clean the water) but, I think, it wont be directly in the pond. Possibly an "azola bed" that I can top off with pondwater and overflow back into the pond. I need to figure something out. Something to multiply azola like crazy, but keep it contained and harvestable without having it become a nuisance clogging my "natural edge skimmer"

    Hi Ed. I have a question about using limestone like this. Won't it make the water alkaline? How will that affect the fish and plants?

    • @edbeaulieu5916
      @edbeaulieu5916 4 года назад +2

      Jason Oxley Yes, this rock will create an alkaline aquatic system but it’s normal for Florida.
      I questioned this exact thing a few years ago and then we started building ponds with this stone in Florida and I haven’t seen any detrimental effects from it.
      The pH in the ponds we’ve already built stays around 8.0 which is OK.

    Hi Ed, with the drainage pipe under the pond. Is it necessary for the pipe that exits the pond to be extended below the water level for it to do it's job? Or do you just make sure the ground water leaving the pipe doesn't flow back into the pond?

    • @edbeaulieu5916
      @edbeaulieu5916 4 года назад +1

      Short Sleeve It should be below the normal water level of the pond

    Does the calcium carbonate rocks affect the pH of the water?

    • @edbeaulieu5916
      @edbeaulieu5916 4 года назад +1

      Mark Miller Yes, it will increase the pH and hardness of the water but I haven’t seen it cause a problem?
      I was originally concerned about this but then we started using this stone as a test and everything has been functioning great with them!
