  • Similar to a home renovation, a retention pond renovation poses unforeseen problems that we have to deal with on the fly. Who knew a natural spring would throw such a monkey wrench into this project!

    This might not be as glamorous as some of the other projects but its very fascinating none the less. Its really fun to see how you problem solve and gives us some insight into solving our own problems that come up in pond building and general drainage problems.

      Daniel Peterson This is a real world project and situation, it’s definitely not glamorous but it “pays the bills”

    Although it's on a much smaller scale than this, I am dealing with rainwater and grading issues in my yard, where I'm putting in a pond. Of course, we are having historic amounts of rain this year - and more to come. I'm hoping to learn something from this video - even if I have to adapt it to a smaller situation.

      bags GA You can definitely use some of the same strategies on any size project.

    My input
    This is a detention pond . Or as it is ,looks like a mixed one.Second Before you bring all machinery you should pump all the water out and that will take several days.
    Third :Depending what you have below (apparently mud will make working a mess and depending on subsoil too.
    Nice work though!!
    Wonder what you put below once you finished draining and mud removing.
    Nice system to drain water and very good pumps !!

    Feeling sorry for you Ed on this project. All in all so much work for "just" a retention pond. But as a pro you want things to be done correctly without cutting corners. I'm sure the end result will be great!

      Richard B It was compounded due to the record breaking rain storms we experienced in 2019!
      The normal groundwater level is higher throughout Illinois

    Do you know if every neighborhood should have a retention pond? Watching from Houston Texas 😊

    • @EdThePondProfessor
      @EdThePondProfessor  3 года назад

      It’s very common for new developments to have some sort of retention pond for managing their Stormwater,
      I was involved with a large one in Fort Worth Texas where one large central Retention pond managed a development with over 1,000 homes.

      Yes salt water

    • @edbeaulieu5916
      @edbeaulieu5916 4 года назад +1

      ricky rodriguez Anything can be accomplished but it would be a challenge to control salt concentrations in an outdoor environment(evaporation and precipitation) would require constant monitoring.
      Creating an open system if you were near the coast would be the best way to do it.
