    Great video Ed. Water is so important for every type of life. Glad to see you & aquascape are trying to fix the problems of storm water runoff pollution. Just sad to hear that there are thousands of new homes being built. We all need a place to live but the loss of natural habitat is very sad not only for the wildlife but also for us.

    Great video Ed! I know I’ll be sharing this one for sure.
    This issue is something I’ve always been very passionate about. Although It is proving very hard to change developers and civil engineers ideas of what can be done, or should be done to ensure we are making the most out of these pockets of nature. Natural pond ecosystems in the UK are few and far between so SUDs are becoming the next best thing for our aquatic life but currently we are having the same issues as you and ending up with stagnant algaefied holes.
    Educational videos like this are fantastic. I seriously hope we are able to make a difference using the Aquascape ethos and technologies.

I dug a ditch about 12’ behind the house to divert water around the house but thought it I take my excavator up the mountain and dig a pond I can better manage the water. After watching this video I think I’m in over my head on that project idea

    I love the philosophies you implemented into this video. So great. I have been pondering all of these ideas recently and you have wrapped it up nicely in this video. I enjoyed it thoroughly. I love the idea of creating a lot of biodiversity in these areas and using bio filtration in order to keep the storm water run off clean. Mimicking the way that God designed it to work is the best, it seems like we kind of just built up everything and now we are learning ways to do it better and more helpfully. I hope we can implement these ideas thru out the world in order to bring back the natural ecological diversity we have taken away and to clean the water which we inadvertently collect.

    I'm here to find a solution to my farmland -about 80acres that has serious* flooding issues... and I want to do exactly what you have done starting from @11:05 -a natural looking twisting creek with a few ponds at different spots.
    Some questions (kindly:) :
    1. Can I use the ponds for fish farming?
    2. Do I need to think of filtration since it is deep in rural Africa -the water is not polluted?
    3. It does not have a slope so I'm not sure what you can advise about that -?

    Great video matching my question. Dear Ed, what is the appropriate or potential area to design a storm water retention pond? is it to any area near a water body? can the term rainwater retention pond be used similary as stormwater retention pond? Thank for answering...

    • @EdThePondProfessor
      @EdThePondProfessor  3 года назад

      Great question,
      Yes the terminology is universal Rainwater/Stormwater Retention.
      The Location does not need to be near an existing water body but it will eventually connect to a downstream system so elevations/overflow pipes need to be carefully determined.

    • @mindjerichard4883
      @mindjerichard4883 3 года назад

      Thank you very much for your prompt respond dear prof ed. Actually i provided a recommendation of designing storm water retention pond near a lake so that it can be retaining or capture stormwater runoff and protect thw lake from pollution. Then, i was told that, storm water retention ponds have been used in many areas but i did not give an evidence showing that the pond is really needed in my area. How do i go with this or what should be considered when thinking of designing a pond? thank you really much

    • @EdThePondProfessor
      @EdThePondProfessor  3 года назад

      Ponds will help to capture and hold Phosphorus, this is a very important piece of the equation because Phosphorus is typically the limiting factor for noxious algal growth including Cyanobacteria,
      The Phosphorus is precipitated out if the retention time is adequate enough.
      Another important piece is a Restrictor pipe for the overflow(4”) for example on a 1 acre pond will only allow a small volume of water to leave the pond in a 24 hour period, the pond level will temporarily rise and the water velocity will drop to allow the sedimentation processes to occur, this will also protect the downstream habitats from flooding.

    Retention ponds around my neighborhood has fountain in the middle to mitigate mosquitoes infestation.
    Which body is responsible for keeping retention pond clean?
    City or code enforcement & association say it is not their responsibility?
    Because fountain alone is not enough because dirty retention ponds give rise to mice & spiders finding their way into neighborhoods.
    Thanks

    • @EdThePondProfessor
      @EdThePondProfessor  4 года назад

      Fountains are a good start but there are much better options!
      I prefer using a series of Prefilters and Wetland Filtration to manage retention ponds but most Homeowner Associations don’t want to invest the time and money to create a fully functioning ecosystem......
