      i think you could stuff moisture wicking mesh (hygrolon on amazon) in the cracks and plant moss on top

    • @edbeaulieu5916
      @edbeaulieu5916 4 года назад

      That can be a challenge due to the tough conditions of flowing water and movement of the stones throughout the changing seasons.
      I’ve tried other type of sealants and mortars but they seem to fail(at least in Chicago/freeze & thaw)
      Where do you live?

    • @AXPorto

      Ed Beaulieu Is this a response of the pond professor himself?😃 I live in the south of Portugal, summers 87-95 degrees winters no freezing degrees lowest will be around 50 degrees. I’m currently trying to build a small pond roughly 10ft by 5ft and 3ft deep, negative edge into calm stream of 60ft by 30-35inches and 10inches deep into a pondless system down at the bottom. After lots of your videos I want to try to copy your strategies the best I can. In a year I want to build a large pond with wetland filtration system. But for this aquascape equipment is definitely required! This current small DIY pond is my practice for the big project! Thanks for your help and replying!

    • @edbeaulieu5916
      @edbeaulieu5916 4 года назад

      EvilGodXL Of course it’s me responding!
      We have a Distribution Facility outside of London,
      We can definitely get you anything you need.
      If you want to experiment with another sealing method that would work well in your climate you can try Bentonite Clay,
      You’ll need to use a heavy duty Geotextile fabric between the joints you wish to seal first and then apply the Bentonite in the joint and then another layer of the Geotextile, this will prevent the Bentonite(Clay) from being washed out of the joint from the flowing water.
      It’s not perfect but it will work.
      We can purchase Bentonite in large bags here, I don’t know if it’s available in Portugal???

      Thanks for watching!
      We will continue with updates on this project.
      The challenge we have on this project as well as other larger features is there are a lot of other contractors on the project that are working in the same space so we work and then leave and let the other contractors do their thing before we come back.
      When we’re off the project we work on other smaller features as this is a busy time of the year......

    Fantastic job Ed. I’m wondering if you could clarify something for me please. I am building a pond which will also be available for swimming. I assume that your pump vaults contain submersible pumps, but I am told that you can not use submersible pumps if there will be human contact and that I must switch to above ground pumps. Can you help me with this?

    • @EdThePondProfessor
      @EdThePondProfessor  3 года назад

      Correct,
      If the main purpose is swimming you should use Above Ground/Inline Pumps,
      You’ll still need a Pump Vault or some sort of Prefilter to draw the water through before it reaches the pump

    • @conquestguy
      @conquestguy 3 года назад

      Thanks Ed. If you ever have the opportunity a video of how best to construct that would be great. We are planning a negative edge intake bay pumped up 30’ to a wetland filter that will then feed a waterfall to a 40 X 50 swim pond with a regeneration zone. Just trying to work the pump logistics without bankrupting us on the electrical bill.
