Great review. Thank you. I’m looking forward to test riding one.
2021 model also has an up and down quickshifter from the factory. The '24 model just gets the next gen software so it works off throttle up and on throttle down.
Very good review. You were ready with all your facts. Thanks for not using annoying music.
Ok now I want one. 😊 Great review Carl!
Mine is on order, can't wait!
The engine puts it right in that sweet spot where you get to punch through the gears , really keeping you involved, rather than hitting lose your licence speeds in 2nd like you can on a super naked...and it screams like a banshee when you give it handful
New '24 MT-09 video to fuel my excitement. Thank you!
Seems a fantastically well-rounded bike, now! In the competitive company, it's now kind of no-brainer. Yamaha's reliability can't be matched by any of the European brands. I'd MUCH rather spend time riding than socializing with my dealer/mechanic/or by myself in the garage all damn night! That's real-world ownership-experience value.
I do prefer this and I am looking to buy an SP. But other than the KTM there are no reliability issues with Triumph and Ducati that should put anyone off.
But what is when your mechanic is hot ? 😂
@@nicksokolis6343The price of servicing will soon put them off.
Great review, thanks! Would be incredible if you did a comparison video vs. the new 990 Duke.
Names on top of a few lists of dealers here on the East Coast for the SP. Cant wait!! Had a 22 and had to sell it when moved to TN .
Excellent review 😊
Invaluable historical context, peer comparison and unsurpassed delivery.... Primo
Can't wait for your light/middle weight sport bike group test... Zx4RR, CBR600RR, R7 , ZX6R etc...
Carl, has the ABS intervention improved, or does it still kick in way too early? The previous gen's system was too conservative, both in base and SP-form...
Great vid
any idea, in which area did the new model gained weight?
Great review, I got mine or order!
FYI the previous gen also came with a quickshifter and auto blipper on the standard model.
Nearly got an mt09 in 2013 - early pre ABS - and the only thing that stopped me was the poor p/e the dealer offered. I brooded and got something bigger and faster instead,; nice, but maybe the mt09 would've been ridden more. This new mt09 is probably all the bike I need. An sp would be wasted. Mmmm.
I want one now.
19" front, 18" rear (tyre choice),lower the suspension, would make a great flattracker?
Any comments on the brakes? How good or bad are they ?
bike finally looks good enough to consider buying
Nonetheless, the fundamental parts and tools required to service the MT-09 haven’t changed since launch, so this maintenance schedule is for the FZ-09 and MT-09 from 2015-2020. In 2021, a new MT-09 and MT-09 SP were released with an updated 890cc CP3 engine.
I been waiting for this
Looks like a great bike. I'll stick with my 21 SP for now though.
Can’t wait to get mine!🥳
Congrats! Mine as well!
Congrats! Mines as well @@otlndsh
Me too
me too
Same😊
There was a MT09 with a windscreen and sidebags. Do you happen to know the brand? Thanks!
the entire motorcycle industry just straight up forgot how to make a headlight look good, huh
See xsr900
Man honestly 😂
I'd still quite like a Mk1. Good review. Good reviewer.
This chassis has the same problem as the previous one?
This bike is fire. Dayum Yamaha
I was all set on a new Street Triple 765 RS next year - an upgrade and treat to myself after what will be six years and probably 65,000 km on my KTM Duke 390 - but the 2024 MT-09, specifically the SP, has grabbed my attention. I would love to see a group test with those two bikes despite the capacity difference - pricing is very similar in Canada after add-ons - to help with the decision.
Also, great video and breakdown of the new MT-09. Thank you for the detailed overview and introduction to what will obviously be a smash hit for Yamaha.
I’d have one!
Which is better a new mt-09 or a used sp?
Is cruise control standard on all mt09 2024 or just SP?
All
The new master cylinder helps with braking too.
I rode a 2023 recently. It was more to do a friend a favor (he wanted to hear something like "hey what a gem of a bike") , I did not expect too much. But even the "old" modell is so much fun. I knew the gen 1 one and the chassis was not exactly brlliant, to be graciouse But the new 890 cc engine is brilliant. And you can ride it far more hard than the privious modells . I guess i will sell my Street Triple RS for it, cause i'm not a track rider, and at the end of the day it's a cheap ,reliable, fun to ride Package.
Still looks like a lotta weight over the rear wheel but great to hear front end feel has improved. Hopefully front brake feel better too.
Apart from the great bike, I noticed that stunning road. Can anyone tell me the location/name of that road? The one with the drown shots 🙏
It’s on the Spanish island of Lanzarote
Stunning yes, but imagine binning it into sharp volcanic rock, yeesh
Hey man,
wich one sounds better? 2023 or the new 2024 model?
Do u think there will be after marked exhausts for the 2024 Euro 5 plus model?
Looks like arkrapovič has one?
@@SludgedB akra is too expansive and doesnt sound good for my opinion. sc project or mivv has better sound.
@@neis8290 if an Akra pipe is too expensive, you probably don’t have any business shopping for a brand new mt-09 then.
@@SludgedB i already ordered one. I would pay the 2k if it sounds good. But it doesnt in my opinion.
Same frame and engine 99% sure the 21+ exhausts will fit
VALUE FOR MONEY, Its the best right now. Imagine buying two 2024 MT 09 for the price of one european bike. NO BRAINER MAN.
Hi, guys. Checkout my GTA San Andreas motorcycle videos : ruclips.net/p/PLI6Vqibp8n8f2gsZWm_B1QdUvvpe40eh2&feature=shared
Hey, quick question ----- Why is the 990 so expensive?
IF the KTM Super Duke 1390 had a baby it would be the KTM 990... The 990 is a work of art and has all the same features as the 1390 except the motor ofcourse...990 is an awesome streetable bike where the 1390 can get you hurt quickly if you don't have the skills to ride it. If i had the kind of money needed to buy the 990, It would absolutely be my next bike. I already own two other naked bikes the 2017 Yamaha FZ-09 and a 2005 Kawasaki ZRX1200R. Both were bought new from the dealerships...The Aprilia Tuono 1000cc naked I would also buy in a heartbeat...It's another awesome flagship naked bike...
How is the low down fuelling?
Very good question. Answer this please as a jerky throttle ruins a bike.
That was fixed on the previous model
Does anyone know if the new switchgear is venturing over to the XSR900?
I'm waiting for it...and the new dash too..
And the new generation quickshifter...
Next year's XSR 900 will get the new dash and switchgear. This year's new XSR 900 GP get's the new dash and switchgear.@@abymathew295
@aleccole7122 I have a 24 XSR900 but it doesn't have the new dash or switch gear.
@FL0Kl I love the engine. I thinking I'm going to sell my XSR900 24 for the new Tracer 9 GT+ and then get something more special as my weekend toy.
Let's be fair Gen 3 you could dial the suspension in to suite the rider.. Gen 1 I agree
But still improved dialing it in slightly Gen 4 suits track day's more Gen 3 day out riding.. I've seen minimal if not any bad reviews on Gen 3 the looks that personal.. At the end off the day it's the cp3 we are buying the mt09 for.. Over 50 Gen 3 I think would suit.. Young guy track days go for it.. Any mt best bikes I've ever owned..
Yamaha MT-09 and MT-09SP (890cc, 2021+) Maintenance Schedule and Service Intervals

April 8, 2023
This is the maintenance schedule and associated service intervals for the 2022+ Yamaha MT-09 and MT-09 SP with the upgraded 890cc engine, released and made available in 2021.
The 2021/2022 model’s 890cc inline triple is an upgrade over the 847cc triple in the original Yamaha MT-09 (which was originally released as an FZ-09, but which has always been the same bike) and XSR900, which shares the same base platform in a more “modern classic” design aesthetic.
The new 2021/2022 MT-09 and MT-09 SP have a host of improvements over the outgoing models with the 847cc CP3 engine. But the star of the show is the engine, an 890cc liquid-cooled 12-valve inline triple that makes a claimed 87.5 kW (117.4 hp) at 10,000 rpm, with a generally fatter torque curve.
Bigger fuel tank please
So what does the sp get over standard ?
Electronic suspension
Brembo calipers, uprated forks and ohlins shock, fancy paint
3:44 basically better suspension
Dont forget the keyless system
And additional track/ride modes including a super moto mode, with ABS off at the rear wheel.
very good review. thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Yamaha has hit the ball out of the park, with this one !
The previous generation came with a QS+Blipper standard too. And what do you mean it feels like a supernaked? It is a supernaked......specially that the R9 is in the line which is a supersport
Supernakeds have 150hp+
@@thedegen93 i always thought those are hypernakeds.....
@@dadwillfixitHypernakeds are around the 200+bhp
How about the Triumph Street Triple 765 R 🤔
is the sp worth it?
Yes it is.
Italian Designer for the MT10 PLEASE
Why would you downshift while opening the throttle though? Vice versa why would you upshift and not be getting on the throttle.
I just want the screen
Is it worth it to upgrade from a 2023 model?
Yes.
If you have to have the “best” the only good upgrade would be a new top spec mt-10
No
Yes. No. Maybe… So it’s clear then…
Not really unless you like throwing money away.
Triumph Street Triple RS does have cruise control as an option
My next bike or this
Same, although I must say I am leaning towards the Triumph
I would always take Yamaha
@@MrHive1976 Def more reliable and better accessory support, easier servicing etc. Pros and cons either way :)
Both are fantastic bikes
@@marius93 problem is every one has an mt
Damn. I have a 2023 mt09 in the garage right now. Better call the dealer 😂
Whens that r9 coming???
2025....WSB race manager
What a great review - thank you. Is it more fun than a Tuono V4?
Bring on the sp!
And a proper racy R9 🙏
Looks a little like the first xsr900
wish the mt10 looked as good as this. That thing is disgusting
Nah, it's gorgeous.
This is hardly a looker either..
Yamahas whole “dark side of Japan” styling and color schemes are horrendous. Their engines/cost are the only reason they’re selling bikes
😂😂
@@seabear2494yeah I’m with you on this… reckon maybe some kind of wrap to make this all black would be much nicer!
I said that MT-09 is fucking dangerous bike . Fucking suspension ! Maybe I am wrong now in 2024 because Yamaha has changing his suspension but I am still angry against this MT-09
Why cant we turn on de subtitles, pity for those whos hearing is not 100%
Just who was the genius that decided the indicator control switch needed to be reinvented!?
Am I the only one who likes digital panels than TFT ones.?
2:04 why can't yamaha give us this type of exhaustsystem?
I don't like how i fit on the 09, it's too small for me like most bikes
Second fiddle to the Street Triple in every regard. Especially looks
2:30 Not tall, but what about kinda short, kinda chunky?
That front light nacelle is hideous imo
God i cannot wait for the R9 with the bits of an Mt09 SP.
I want a tenere 900
I think the mark one version looked far better.
i don't know why it's face looks like megatron from transformers 😂
Idk what is it, it just looks like every other bike out there. I prefer the street triple
Turn on the subtitles please!!!
Love the bike but Yamaha needs to move away from that wheel color already.
This year's changes are all because of the upcoming R9
I really don't understand why everyone is so happy about cruise control... my 2023 SP has it... I've used it one time... absolutely unnecessary.
Clearly you haven't gone touring on it.
Dynamically this is the best naked per dollar on the road. The gas tank ? Umm 🤔
2 generations later and the 2017-2020 is still the best looking 09
Yamaha totally destroyed the looks the mt 09 had..it was perfect and if now i was about to buy a bike i would never buy the mt 09
With every new version of the MT09, Yamaha manages to successfully make it uglier. The headlight on this is horrendous. The best thing is the engine, I'd much prefer an xsr with a modified rear end and seat cowl.
The MT series have been the ugliest bikes Yamaha has ever produced.
Looks very small for small men
Meh 🙄
Yamaha once made the most beautiful looking motorcycles you could buy from the japanese manufacturers. Now they make the ugliest in the motorcycle industry
The Mt09 seems a small bike, I wish it was a bit bigger.
I have an sv650 that I use daily for my commute. I have a 47km twisty commute with no traffic whatsoever (I can take the highway which is much faster but so damn boring) . I love the SV, but I've been thinking of stepping up to a more fun ride. I might just consider this. I've been looking at the Z900 but I've never test ridden one and I don't know anyone who has a Z900 that I can ask. I tried considering the GSXS-1000 cuz it's pretty good for the price. I have an affinity to Japanese bikes, which is why I haven't considered European manufacturers, although an MV Agusta Rush wouldn't be too bad, just can't afford it.
2021 was not a new Motor .. It was the same Motor with a longer stroke , more Torque and better MPG
Wrong it's was a new motor 847cc then 2021 890cc
Literally a new engine.
@@davmanlop333 Same Motor they just changed the stroke and the Pistons..
So if I took my 427 Chevy Big Block Trucking engine and I replaced the stoke 3.75" Stroke Crank with a 4.25" Stroke crank and longer Crower I Rods I can say I have a completely new Engine.. now it's 488 Cubic Inches with a 0.030 over bore .

I just don't like the way it looks...
This was developed during covid, that's why it looks like it's wearing a mask!
The 2021/23 looks different, hooligan decepticon. The 2024 looks more tryng to be cute and a super hero ( iron man). We do not want to be cute and softy, we like to ride as it is. Hooligan.
Color is awful
Just when i think Yamaha can't get any uglier..
Iwish I had before I die but almost half million here..so sad can't make it I'm getting old and my salary is $10 a days🥹🥹🥹
